- This is the next in our series of Modern Classics films at the Classic Car TV channel. After focusing on McLaren in the first video, we look at Porsche, surely once of the most respected names in the sportscar and motorsport world.
Specifically, we are looking at the air-cooled 911 RS's, which today command huge attention and respect by enthusiasts and collectors alike. It is 50 years this year since Porsche launched the 2.7 RS at the Paris Motorshow, and then followed up with two more air-cooled RS's in the form of the 964 RS and the 993 RS. They are all truly amazing cars!
Sticking with the Modern Classics series format, we have interviewed two Porsche gurus - Josh Sadler, who founded Autofarm, and Phil Hindley of Tech 9 Motorsport. Both have huge experience of these cars, motorsport and the broad classic car market. We compare the cars, discuss their individual merits and tackle the tricky issue of rocketing values!
00:00 Intro to the series
02:50 Meet the Porsche experts
04:20 Focus - the 2.7 RS
09:32 Focus - the 964 RS
11:53 Focus - the 993 RS
14:55 The interviews: What is a classic car?
18:43 Are these three cars already classics?
20:06 What do the experts think of each car?
27:50 2.7 Lightweight or Touring - which is best?
33:08 The 964 RS - too hard-care for the road?
33:06 Is the 993 RS a bridge between air-cooled and water-cooled 911s?
42:36 The big question - values!
48:23 Can you compare the air-cooled RSs to later GT cars?
52:39 On a warm summer evening, which would you choose for a drive?

Congrats for the nice video. Loved it
This is a great channel, really enjoyed this video thanks for the work to put it together. 964 RS is my favorite of the bunch. I drove a friends 2.7 RS and was so nervous given its value I didn't enjoy it enough!
The 964 RS absolutely typifies everything that is good about a classic 911. That said, I was really surprised how accessible the 2.7 RS was.
Wonderful analysis, thank you. It could only have been made better, selfishly for me, had you included the 80s RS - the 3.2 Club Sport.
Maybe we have to feature that on the channel too!
What a great video, thank you!
Thank you! More Porsche videos coming soon. Recent drives include an original, perfect spec 930 Turbo and a 911R, which was genuinely one of the best 911s we've ever driven. Absolutely worth all the hype.
@@classiccartvfilms congrats for the great content! Thanks for sharing
Thank you
Great video. Full of information. Thanks 🙏🏿
Thanks very much. It was a pleasure to make. Are you mainly interested in Porsche content, or other brands too?
@@classiccartvfilms I’m actually addicted to Porsches. I’ve had a few watercooled cars in the past last being a stunningly beautiful 997 which I hated because of how soulless it was to me🤦🏾♂️. Now running a tribute 993rs🥰. Prefer the old stuff, having had an e30 m3 evolution and a Nurburgring edition e34 m5 6speed last yr production model in total 22/17 years of ownership of this cars at same time.
Fantastic history there! We have had many cars in common. More Porsche content in the pipeline at the moment.
Super channel. Subscribed.
Thanks, Alan. Running this channel is nothing but a pleasure!
Stunning classic Porsches! 2.7RS for me please. Keep the great films coming.
BTW: I've owned my 2.7RS Touring for almost 15 years and never knew about the book. Mine came from Japan and is unaltered since new. Would love to get my hands on that book.
Here is a link to the book www.google.co.uk/search?q=porsche+carrera+rs+book&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari
I own all 3 and also owned the MP4-12C McLaren you covered... Shocking but true. Mclaren was amazing. Driving the 993RS is my fav.
Congratulations! My 993 RS was my all-time favourite car. Very different from the 12C, but I loved that too.
@@classiccartvfilms Yah crazy. the 12C was such a good car although the one thing that was shocking was the turbo lag which was massive. I sold it after 6 years because that was the length of my warranty extension. I couldn't bare the risk of it breaking down and those famous McLaren charges back then.
Fantastic video...thanks for sharing. 964RS all the way for me.
Appreciate this, Kieran! The 964 RS is a perfect, classic 911.
Great video. Really informative and definitely the 993RS for me.
Thanks! It's definitely a stunning car. While the 2.7 is the unicorn, the 993 RS is perhaps less well-known but incredibly good to drive. I think it has a lot of value growth potential.
Thank you. Great Video. Calm, Intelligent.
Much appreciated!
Super informative vlog.
Thank you, Zia. I make the sort of videos that I would like to watch - and learn from. It's always great and much appreciated when other people like them.
Excellent Vince, good job
Thanks, Stephen. Glad you enjoyed it! Are you an owner yourself?
@@classiccartvfilms The Riviera Blue 993 rs was mine from 2005 till 2020, reg RSR 9
@@stephenkings2556 of course! Not connecting the dots here.
maybe a 996 vs 997 GT3 video to continue the theme?
Great idea! I have experience of the 996 GT3, but not the 997. Let me work on this.
@@classiccartvfilms , well there is a 997.1 GT3 Clubsport in my garage if you need to use it for a vid?
@@stuartmackay4472 thanks for the offer! I'd need to schedule a 996 too, but if you would like to contact me at vholton@incisor.tv, we can chat offline.
