• 3000 mile Pacific Cros...
This week we enter the dreaded doldrums, where it is just one squall after another for days on end. But we get serious about what it would mean to have to abandon ship, so we get mentally and physically prepared for worst case scenario...
SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. We found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are now sailing across the Pacific Ocean!!

Colin is great but having watched the channel from almost the very start I think Jamie deserves a huge shoutout! He's been an unsung hero and is always mucking in without complaining! #respect
Colin and Jamie definitely are the dream team :)
Feels like we, the audience, are crossing the pacific with you!
That’s great to hear! Thanks for crossing with us 😊
When I read your post I laughed to myself and thought, “it does seem like I’m there with the crew with Colin’s cinematography skills, editing and explanations.”
I can see that Colin is really in his element right now. The crossing and weather and everything else has him very focused. I'm sure he's loving it.
I do hope the dogs have life jackets with beacons attached
A sewing kit, Gaffer Tape, fish hooks, spare hats, sunglasses, big tub of coco butter for the sores. Bag of balloons to keep water in. Extras for your grab bag
This murder mystery game is epic. 😂 I'm so stoked to finally be a Patreon!
Thanks so much! We so appreciate your support as a Patreon 😊❤
Colin would love to see an episode of how to cruise with dogs and all the requirements to meet the country’s needs.
@@SailingParlayRevival0......Hi Col what’s lucky winner?
an adition to abandonship supplies would be BLANKETS, you're wet, maybe injured, you need blankets, on any dutch commercial vessel there is a designated person to take blankets into the liferaft. good content guys, love ya!
Thanks Thomas!
I would suggest a small kit in each dinghy attached to the dinghy food ((water)) flairs
Colin... as I listen to the opening, I think your next career move should be voice overs, because you are very pleasant to listen to!
I hope you have doggie life jackets for your dogs..we always had doggie life jackets for our dogs every time we took them on our boats..when it gets choppy the life jackets go on and thankfully we were deligent about it because it saved their lives one time when it was taking so long to find them due to the swells..found them both!..❤
Oh wow, so happy you found them! We always put the dogs life jackets on at night time :)
@Jamie you know how to read the seas and Sea state , that's how you do so well without Radar
Im 67 and have never sailed in my life. So its surprising how much I love every Sunday night (Georgia USA) excited to see the journey this week. I think I started because of you Colin, from below deck and always liked you, you were the nice one!😂
Already looking forward to next Sunday! Happy sailing!
Thanks for following along!
Watching Colin go through the abandon ship plan and I was with him until he said 20 liters of water would cover them for days and days and days including 2 dogs and I had to scratch my head. On a normal day I drink between 5 and 6 liters of water. So by the second day I'd be deciding who I'd be throwing out of the life raft...lol
I was thinking the same thing. That's 24 hours.
In an emergency situation that amount of water plus the water on the life raft would give them about 3 to 4 days when rationed, then they'd have a few days without water before they would not be able to survive. They could keep going for up to a week, no more than that. They wouldn't need that long to be rescued though.
2.5 litre of water per person. 4 days? That's a bottle of water per day while dealing with extreme exposure. It's 2.5 litres per day to avoid becoming dehydrated.
Water is so heavy and so critical to our survival. What Colin showed us doesn't seem like enough, but he also mentioned there is an unspecified amount in the life-rafts already. I wonder if they also have some emergency desalination options available?
@@inviso1111 yes. My offshore life raft had a little hand pumped desalination gizmo around the size of a hand basketball pump. I don’t know exactly what it looked like because fortunately I never had to deploy it.
Good to see you go over your abandon ship plan. I'd like to hear a little bit about the drill, who has responsibility for what bags? At least say that you have the plan and responsibilities and that you have drilled it. Nothing that you want to do but absolutely necessary to plan for on ocean and coastal passages. Important for people to hear about the necessity. Good job with safety Colin!
Two items that I would add to your bag... First, a Leatherman style multi-tool. Next is a 2" roll of marine heat shrink cover vinyl tape (white). It works well after getting wet and is a much better alternative to duct tape.
Great additions! We did have a leatherman in there actually but the tape needs to be added 👌🏼
Hi Colin their is a Single Lady sailing the opposite direction to you. She is just close to Tonga, she is Hippie Chick single handed in Terrible weather the last few day's. You could say hello to her and raise her spirit's she has had some guts this last few day's. She is from New Zealand.
Of whom do you speak? Wind Hippie Sailing is from Maine, USA and is circling the globe in the same direction and is sort of in the same area. With the upload delays on CZcams, it's hard to tell where all these boats circling the globe are at any given point in time.
I wish these came more than just once a week. Wonder if Colin will add a wind mill for the cloudy days. Keep the juices flowing when the sun hides.
Wind mills are so loud and output is pretty low, lately with great solar panels they only come in the picture with race boats when engine use is prohibited and noise is not an issue.
@jiefflerenard1228 I was on a friend's monihull he ran a small wind mill and it wasn't noticeable on tbe water. However, it was the first and only time ever being on a sail boat. So will take your word for it. Figured for a day like this, it could be a good resource for power generation.
I think while everyone is asleep you should run a practice run woth out telling anyone and see how everyone does there part practice makes perfect
Captain Bligh would do it when ship hands are sleeping. That is pretty cruel. Not necessary either. Drill it once in the day and maybe again when it's a boring sea day. An edgy crew. is not a fun passage.
Absolutely love how you put together the storyline. Super educational! Look forward to each posting, but sad it’s only once a week. Keep up the great work!!!
Thanks for the positive feedback! Britt and Colin really do such an incredible job with the editing.
Another amazing video. Death by pickle was the best had me laughing so hard.
😂
A fox 40 whistle would be an essential for my kit or even just having on my person, it’s so loud and all you need is your lungs
An entire crew of pollywogs, OMG Colin you are gonna have so much fun... Can't wait to see this!
Stay tuned for next week 😁👌🏼
Love ya guys. ❤
❤
When i crossed to FP in 2018 it was simply amazing, no squalls, 18 knots most of the way.
Lagoon 400S2, two 200nm days and from St Benidicto to Hiva Oha in 18 days
Wow that’s amazing!
Great episode guys. I’m still smiling! Don’t miss the nighttime squalls though.
This crew is so fortunate to have Colin as their Captain, and Jamie as first mate. You are well prepared for any and all emergencies! It was nice to see you unwinding and having a swim and shower. Please always stay safe.
Speaking for the crew, we couldn’t agree more - extremely fortunate 😊
Thank you for making me happy. ❤
Thank you for following along ❤
For the grab bag - I am assuming you would also have a pouch with passports, IDs, and wallets.
Looks like an amazing time.!
It sure was!
Just wow. I have to say I'm envious of y'all! You are living the life!
We definitely try not to take it for granted. Thanks for following along ❤
get a usb power bank or tw to go with the abandon ship kit. just finished talking about how solar power is only as good as the sun and then say you're relying on solar for your emergency equipment. could maximize usefullness of the solar by being able to charge power banks too, with the ability to charge at night or use usb powered lighting
First comment, first like!! Go me 🥃🍾🥤 Love following you all Wish I was there!
Thanks so much 😊
It's almost like being there with you guys.
That’s great to hear 😊
I have to say that this is the only channel I actively watch on youtube, just amazing to be a swabbie along for the adventure, great job Colin for your conscientious maintenance of your craft and all the crew for the fun!!
That’s great to hear! Thanks so much for watching each week 😊
Just plain Classic!!!
The Montley Crew of Misfits! ❤
Colin, I thoroughly enjoy your teaching moments for your viewers and crew. Thank you for sharing and teaching. 🍻
Thanks for watching! He sure is such a great captain and teacher 😊
"It is the Manner, in which we Choose to Operate, That Give us the Options to Persevere, when events do not Go As Planned"... Fair Skies Parlay...
Living the dream 👏❤
This is just awesome, I was disappointed when it was over..
Just 6 more days until Part 5 🤗
So good, did I mention so damn good...special Emmy and Oscar y'all. Incomparable!!
Another top Fairdinkum bloody rippa of an episode there Parlay Crew!! Always be prepared as the former SAS Scout Ranger 1st class David Shihlatte is, what a pair of feet like a moody prune left in Jamie’s jocks for a few days!! Thank you once again for allowing us to join the teams adventures across the open blue waters of Mother Natures ever changing oceans- take care and be safe
The planet uses squalls and cloud cover to cool the oceans ie hurricans is a massive cooling system for the oceans. Great show good knowledge on the equator
Having a good sized, very bright kite can be useful. The right rig can actually make your life raft sailable. you'll need a rudder.
This is just an incredible documentary. Praying for a safe journey for this brave and amazing crew and fearless captain!
Thanks so much
From the pickles in the pocket to the spicy shower scene, I'll overlook the fact that my heart was in my mouth after reading the description of this episode 😂
I am so loving this crew, this journey; it makes me wish I was young again and my Dad was alive because I'd say yes to every single invitation to sail with him, seasickness be damned.
Sending you good vibes from Southern Ontario 🇨🇦
That’s so sweet! Thanks for following along Janice ❤
This episode was brilliant again the crew all look happy can’t wait to c see all the waist food & rotton eggs thrown all over you next week you all stay safe
Haha stay tuned for the slops bucket next Sunday then 😅
I really like that tacking target interrogation feature of some radars. Apparently it's not on all of them. I just sailed on a brand new boat new system -- didn't have it. We did have it in the Bahamas where there are a lot of squalls (we even spotted a water spout but not with the radar). So I'd spend the extra to get it. It also tracks and predictis unknown radar targets like fishing boats that aren't using AIS -- so you can avoid them and their nets.
Hell in really rough seas I'd have floatation devices tied to the big water bottle lol
The murder game was a lot of fun! Safe travels ❤
Would be really cool if you guys had a live feed going on the front of the boat as you guys continue sailing the ocean
Blessings to you all, another wonderful episode. ❤
Thanks ❤
Nothing beats getting to enjoy seeing a magnificent & remarkable adventure while also learning/being educated. It's impossible to not be drawn in & care about everyone & everything involved. Compelling as all get out! LOVE!! 💗
We so appreciate that 💕
I’ve been on a Sportfish that sank offshore, don’t underestimate how fast a boat can sink!! Keep your safety equipment easily accessible! We didn’t and it almost cost us our lives.
Anyone else thinks Colin is a human super computer? Not only of knowledge, but, all the mental tracking and the redundant systems!!! Keep it up guys!!!
His knowledge base, retention & recall is INSANELY impressive...and attractive AF, if I do say so...seriously. 🤭😎
Haha yes he really is a human super computer! He’s so knowledgeable!
What a well-prepared abandon ship plan. You never know when things can go wrong. Good job.
I would have some plastic tubing for emergency enema. While you can't drink sea water via an enema you will absorb water without the salt. A nurse kept her husband and 2 sons alive for 40 plus days alive this way with salt water and one sea turtle 🐢.
Another great video. So envious of all of y’all. I’ve been sailing only on lakes since I was 3yo (Cross Lake-Shreveport-Louisiana) I’ve raced/sailed on a J/22, SouthCoast 21, and a snipe. I really enjoyed y’all’s race vs Delos. That looked like a ton of fun. You two guys are my absolute (by far) favorite channels. You guys have the best posts/videos. Y’all really have the best stories, music, and editing ( can not edit videos wrong) I’ve seen many channels, while beautiful sailing, if they don’t put their videos together right it can ruin the whole thing. Anyway safe passages, keep it going! So happy y’all are able to live the dreams
Thanks so much
I have heard oif solar stills .. for life rafts .. but the emergency kits looks quite complete.
Its about 26:45 time crunchy foot David took a shower 😅 Ive been following your journey , best of luck people and im 💯 percent you'll all be just fine ! Looking forward to next Sun. After all it is the fastest strongest Laguna 450 on the water ! Waves around to the crew for me ! See ya Sunday !
Another Amazing Ride 👏...I absolutely 💯 Love riding along with you guys and gal's....Thank you so very much for including us with your journey, I would have loved the dive in the Ocean, if only I could Swim...I know right...64 and can't swing, but there's a story behind that reason, when we was kids our Pop used to hold us under the water 😢😢...I know a Crazy Story, But Absolutely 💯 True...Anyway thanks for Another awesome Sunday and can't wait until next week, BTW, everytime that I comment, I get a Reply that says ( Winner, Text ,Something I don't remember what exactly) but I do Worry about Scamers...Stay Safe, Love from NC
Perfect conditions for the first week, still pretty good for the doldrums.
Great episode, as usual! I love seeing how y'all have so much fun! Hope we get to see who won murder mystery :)
Well we know the Captain is dead 😂
But that's for a reason , he's a responsible captain so not much time for game playing !
@@edwicks Yup I get that and love it. I'm a risk manager by occupation so I pick up on every little detail of prevention🦺
@@edwicks sadly😥😥😥😥
@@edwicks but his first mate Jamie is still alive, right?

🎉😂🎉😅🎉😊
Hello to all from Siesta Key Florida
You have to read the book about the Aegre sailing from Scotland to the Pacific. It will scare you
LOL, nothing beats a good shellback ceremony
Great great video! Interesting, funny, informative, you are doing a fantastic job of showing your crossing, best I have seen! not one bit of boringness! Safe travels.
Wow, thanks very much! We so appreciate the positive feedback 😊
Nice one Guys stay safe 😎👍
Great video. I love the way everyone is into the " murder mystery". It breaks up the boredom of a long trip. You definitely picked the right crew.
Very nice..informative..pleasant..optimistic. I agree with your motor/generator thinking..👍👊
Wow, what an amazing journey thus far. Thanks for the update Colin. Cheers mate!
Once again a great video. Was watching the tracker everyday on the crossing wondering what it was like. This gives a great idea!! Thanks
Great work and learning you shared again. But I’m sure a couple of the crew were in your last equator crossing?
Yes, an impressive amount of fun. Well done you guys, taking an otherwise notoriously boring slow part of the trip and turning it into fun fun and more fun !
Hi Colin. God if you are ever going to go down I don't think there's anything else you could take. I think you have everything you could ever take 😅. Preparation is everything. Great job bro. Your making great headway. Nice job. I don't know how the rain effects you. Hopefully not to much. I will be Praying that you get to your destination Safe and Sound. Swimming out there looks so Cool you Mad lunatics lol 😅😅. You all look Great and so Happy. 😅😅 🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮
Great video. Natural cold showers are character building! 🥶 🥶
Indeed!
You did a great job with your preparation. The murder mystery game sounds like fun. Very funny telling us the story on how they were killed off. Cheers 🍻
Cheers!
Always enjoy the techy talk…ohms to riches!
In Florida, when the weather gets nasty, the fishing is better...
A water purifier system. I bought one on amazon. Works great cost a couple of hundred
Might suggest also a Portable Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System as part of the grab bag. Drinking water is very important at sea.
That BulkHeads shirt is hilarious 😂
A Katadyn survivor 35 would be good for your life raft. 😁
No cheap but a valuable piece of kit.
Would love to see more fishing content❤❤❤
You guys are amazing! Love your channel!❤
Thank you ❤
These episodes are spectacular! So happy I joined to support you all and your journey. 😊😊
Thanks so much for your support 😊
Great episode. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
An added safety comment to the crew should be made regarding the carbon monoxide poisoning risk associated with the gasoline powered generator. I have the exact same unit on board my boat and always use it cautiously and sparingly. Great channel!!
I can’t wait to enjoy this experience with new friends!
It's hard watching these videos because I already know you made it because some of the other boats already posted their videos with you guys on the island
Such fun memories!! ❤
Great episode. A good mix of sailing, games, education and update on your journey…
Thank you ☺️
In your emergency grab bag kit I see the grey (plastic?) item that looked like a sextant, why didn't you mention that? Good channel Colin.
Love it. Great episode.
What a blast.
Thanks for another great episode love you all greetings from South Africa.❤
❤
I never got to experience the equator but did the "Blue-Nose". Just know that 42 degree water blasted at you from a fire hose isn't pleasant. Make those precious memories! 😊
Haha plucky is always trying to get into the rain so he can collect the water
All the rain is good time to scrub the boat and clothes washing time lol
I'm curious what the sleeping arrangements are? Hot Bunking? I don't want to know who's hooking up, who's not, just curious how 8 people are sleeping around the multiple shifts.
