Sail GP is definitely sweet. Caveat is that it's too restrictive but it makes sense as part of the bigger picture. They don't get to play with the boats, ever. So an absolute team vs team on level playing field. World Cup Racing doesn't just allow sailors to go head to head. It allows the designers, engineers, and inventors to go head to head as well. That's where the motherlode of innovation occurs. It attracts the best and brightest innovators. With that said omg I love these boats!

I think that the gear on the prop shaft and the pinion that mates to it are a mated gear set, You can't interchange them with another unit. You would need to replace both gears.

As a complete sail GP fanboy and a Parley subscriber from (very nearly) episode one... this episode is one of my all time favs. I watched the UK sail GP in Plymouth and you're right, the cameras don't do justice to the speed. The way they turn is crazy! Can't wait for part 2! Thanks for this edit crew Parley!!

We all watched you recover a multi million dollar yachts charter season by rebuilding the engine and basically saving everyone’s jobs and vacations with your fast thinking and engineering smarts. This is such a greet episode. I’m now even more hooked on Sail GP. I think they need to do more behind the scenes work like this. Truly fascinating and so happy for you and the crew to enjoy this experience. Just don’t understand why they don’t share the sound of those boats flying by on TV. Amazing.

Hey Colin, -- QUESTION -- We are narrowing our choice for a sailboat (not a Catamaran). Assuming everything else is equal, would you prefer to have a sail drive or a shaft drive? We have found a few quality sailboats but some have sail drives and some are shaft drives. If I forced you to decide between the two, sail vs shaft, which would you pick? Remember, you have to decide so no "it depends" please (I know that on youtube no one likes to express a clear position on "controversial" issues).

Awesome episode. My husband and I with our 2 boys have been sailing for 3 years on our catamaran now, and watching your episodes through the years is what got me through the tough times while we worked hard to leave NZ and follow our dream. Such an inspiration! You make us proud to be Kiwis.
