  • In this episode we install the metal roof. I also show some of the detail work of how to install soffit, fascia, and ridge cap. Once again, finding a cool new use for my Stabila LA180 L layout station laser.

As far as ridge cap goes... we preinstall foam on the underside of the trim... you don’t see it... but it’s there

Nice job your building work is probably the best I have seen on CZcams and you explain things very well (even though you put the screws in the flat, lol). I run a metal roofing business in NC and something we started doing to prevent leaks is hemming the flat part of the panel up at a 90 degree angle at the ridge. Doesn't take long to do, its hidden by the ridge, but keeps blowing rain from entering at the ridge which makes the roof work that much better. Keep up the awesome videos.

looks to be a different ridge cap than you've used in other installs (i.e., Jimmy D.'s)...

I read the entire Ryan’s czcams.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan’s Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Where I wish I knew more is with respect to ground preparation and foundations. Maybe that's beyond the scope of Ryan’s Shed Plans.

There is no such thing as perfect when it comes to dimensional lumber but your builds are damn close. I know fall protection is such a drag and it takes so long to setup and wastes so much time but it’s worth it when you need it man. I’m pretty comfortable on roofs and have always been and I was working for a company one time that required fall protection and let’s just say I’m glade they did because with all the years of my climbing I still screwed up and tripped nearly shit my pants. I was so thankful I had the protection on because idk if I would have been able to see my beautiful family again man. It was one of those situations I always look back on and just cringe at how close I was to checking out.

Just the fact that you're wiling to spend on the right tools to be "laser" accurate is impressive! Great work. I have a small tip, try using a mechanical pencil. I use a .9 mm for trim and metal. A 1.3 mm for framing. It's a consistently clean line and I haven't had to pause to sharpen a pencil in years.
