The story of how you met is so sweet and beautiful ❤ My husband and I actually met when I was about 8 months pregnant and didn't think that anyone would connect with me but he was also a single teenage parent and about a week after I had my daughter we were set up on a blind date and have basically never been apart since, we have our 3 daughters, one he had, one I had and one we had together and we just celebrated our 15 year wedding anniversary at the end of March. You never know what life will give you and I'm so grateful that I got to meet my husband. Thank you so much for sharing your story and I wish you both so much happiness and success in the future, much love from New Hampshire in the USA ❤

I traveled solo in Vietnam in 2016 as well. I found the "foreigner hunt" very useful, any time I felt I could use some company I would sit at a central spot doing nothing and in less than 5 mins someone would approach me to chit chat. I even got interviewed for a school project. The only time my masterplan failed was when I sat in a square and I got pulled by a lovely Viet grandma to dance-excersize instead 😂
similar experience I did different times during my travels in Samarkand [in Uzbekistan], where a language institut is... and local students want make practise in English/ German/ French/ Chinese/ Korean/ etc. languages
Yeah, I also did that in Iran 😋 With the difference that I had to pull a lonely planet or something since I could pass for local by appearance and that most people just wanted to chat with a foreigner, it was't that much about practicing the language
What you call a failure, I would call an adventure.

@@traveliciustravelicius1493 I was till now 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 traveling in Uzbekistan... amongst others there in mentioned town Samarkand.
And still staying in contact + (well) friends with some... with few since now ten years.
Honestly I'm really happy that privacy is being respected and I hope German boyfriend never does a face reveal the internet as a whole does not need everything shared and you prove you can make and share content connect with others and still be able to draw lines so German boyfriend never feel like you need to change your boundaries I love the creativity around protecting yourself
Even beyond the privacy thing, it's just a cute thing that, marketing wise, could become their channel's thing. Like a slight difference in the formula that makes them stand out. They could incorporate creative ways to not see his face!

Lovely story! Believe it or not, the story of how I met my wife in Vietnam is almost identical. Same location, same year, same circumstances. We met on my first day in Vietnam, and I was totally lost traveling alone for the first time. Thank you so much for sharing your story! It brings back a lot of happy memories for me :)

Me from Czech republic watching girl from Vietnam how he met her German boyfriend in english.
That's a great story. Glad you 2 found each other. My wife and I started emailing completely by accident. She and her co-teacher were looking at Yahoo profiles. She thought nothing about it afterward. But she left her email, and the co-teacher used her school email to email me. Neither of us knew what was going on. But we started emailing. That was in 2000. She had asked her mother what to do about it and she said to practice her English. Well as the years went on a pen pal became a friend, then respect and then loved. I went to the Philippines in 2009 to propose and she excepted. But it was a LONG engagement. I wasn't in a financial position to bring her to the U.S.. But in 2018 she was invited to a 21st century educational conference sponsored at Harvard. She had co-wrote a paper about teaching children in different languages. It was accepted. So in Nov 2018 she came for a visit. She met my parents and they loved her. We got the immigration paperwork started in Jan 2019 before she had to return home. We got the wedding planned while she was waiting to get the fiancé and the medical done. Got got back in October of 2019 and we wed on Nov 16th, the anniversary to her trip to Harvard. Now she has been accepted as a multilingual elementary teacher.

I love it. Poor German Boyfriend, feeling lonely in Hanoi. It was so brave of him to go alone, I can't imagine! I think God was determined to get him there and then had to fill his room with cockroaches so he was forced outside to meet you! The cockroaches were the matchmakers of this epic love story. Who knew cockroaches could do such good? If his room hadn’t been full of vermin, he would’ve stayed in and they never would’ve met. Unfortunately the flying Asian cockroaches that infested my Japanese apartment never did anything so sweet for me.

my mom would always book us mediocre hotels when traveling as kids. She says that if you have a 5 star hotel with super fluffy beds and TV with 29999 channels, you wont want to go out and explore.

The fact that students try to hunt down tourists to talk to is so funny and wholesome to me! If someone approached me like that in a foreign country I might think I was being scammed or robbed or something but I'm glad your fiance agreed to talk with your group and that your relationship worked out

As a German who emigrated to Canada as a baby, I often wondered what my life would be like if my parents made the decision to stay in Germany. Being a German who hasn't been to Germany (true - until I was 45yo), I see how different the Germans are from what I know even though there are so many similarities. Living with my parents was like being in "little germany" within Canadian culture. I find your comparison videos so funny and with you I somehow explore Germany and Germans vicariously with you! I was so surprised when I travelled in Vietnam and was approached by strangers on the street saying they wanted to practice English. After so many people approaching trying to sell some goods or service, I was weary the first few times, but I eventually realized the people really did just want to chat. And now I wish other countries with language barriers between locals and tourists had this friendly trend.
when I traveled Japan with friends, we got approached so much by people that wanted to chat. Some even had German-classes and hear we are German so they just walked with us 2 blocks to practice small talk in German XD it was crazy since before the vacation every travelguide said its hard to get along with english and that the people there are mostly shy. But I guess CZcams and the Internet changed a lot :D
I met my German boyfriend when we both worked in China & were staying at the same hotel. We met in the hotel restaurant at dinner time - we both originally wanted to have room service but decided not to & go to the restaurant. We got to talking & we're still together 😊 Like you, I often wonder what would have happened if we both or one of us ate in our hotel rooms. I thank God everyday for him, like you & your boyfriend. I have a similar story on how I met my wife in Malaysia. I'm from Europe as well, and we can relate to your videos so much. It's fun to see that we are going through the same experiences as far as cultural differences go. Only in our case, I decided to move to Malaysia and not the other way around.
I'm a Malaysian girl and really want to marry a westerner or european but there's so little in my university. I wonder if I go study abroad 1 year in the UK, I can meet the one. What do you think? I'm doing a Creative Writing course, def no westerner if going to transfer to Malaysia to study english. I'm in archery club. The UK one is indoor unlike the nice outdoor one in Malaysia but other than that, UK is nice

What a wonderful, heartwarming story- it’s amazing how you two managed to connect despite the language barrier (it can be challenging getting to know someone with beginner phrases). BTW your English is excellent (when I went to Vietnam I was terrible At Vietnamese as it’s predominantly tonal based). You could obviously both sense each others inner hearts.

Hi Uyen, I am from Singapore and it is very nice to hear your super sweet story because that is how i met my English boyfriend in Luang Prabang in 2019!
We stayed in the same hostel and started chatting at breakfast. We spent time in Laos and Bali and each went back to our own country and successfully made our 3 years long distance relationship worked. I just got my UK work visa this week and this time we are trying to stay in the same city for good! 😆🥰

When you talked about how if either one of you had done one small thing differently you would have never have met, it really resonated with me. One swipe right on an app while traveling changed my life forever. It's crazy to think about, I loved hearing your story.

We were together for 5 years, but ultimately, we wanted different things from a partner, so we became good friends. He died very young, and I miss him most days. My partner and I met in a video game. I totally understand your last point that we could've easily missed each other if we had done things differently. For us, I was quite new to online gaming. He had been playing since forever but decided to try an easier lobby because of boredom. Lol Because of his goofiness, I enjoyed his company and added him to my friends list after a full night of gaming. Our relationship was also a long distance one, and I somehow ended up in Montreal with two kids. We're still going strong 10 years later. Life is unpredictable.
