- Dan has only owned his 1988 RX-7 FC for a little over a year. But, he has developed a lasting bond with the Wankel Engine, perfect balance and the awesome 30 year old paint job. This is his 5th RX and he says he's a rotary guy forever!

The Porsche want to suit Mazda for that model with the 944
I have to say this was the best produced RX7 video I’ve ever seen. Extremely well done.
These are rare conversations that I am so happy you guys got to document alot of the car community these days is all about bagging their cars with exspensive wheels and letting another person work on it
That is EXACTLY why this channel was started! It's important to recognize all of the hard work and dedication behind making something better than the way you found it! Thanks for the comment.
I was 21 in 1991, and bought a gold turbo 2 w/ 20k miles. Put every paycheck into it for 3yrs straight. Intercooler. Exhaust. Chip. Turbo. Bigger Fuel Injectors....suspension...etc etc. Best car I ever owned - wish I had saved it these past 30 yrs. Thanks for taking me back. This car was waaaay ahead of its time back then. It has aluminum susp arms, aluminum spare tire, and aluminum JACK from the factory. Throw in the all mighty rotary and its a wrap. I devoured MANY cars back then. The best was a hopped up GN built for dragging. And the RX7 can corner too. As for rotary reliability goes, I sold mine with 170k and she ran factory that day. xoxox
Gold FCs are a dream. Such a beautiful car.
Congrats! Here's one for you... I have a perfect 1989 convertible RX7 (my 4th since 1978) and IT STILL PASSES california emissions.
Love these!
I love the Rx8 but when you and your buddy said they ruined everything I’ll admit that was hilarious 😂
I was debating weather or not I should really do it. Should I really go OUT and find an FC? This, has cemented that idea. I need it. I won’t be truly Satisfied without a third pedal, and my girl in the passenger seat.
Thanks. I’m gonna send it, on September 24th, 2021, I will be 24 years old. I’m GETTING my Rx7
AND IM KEEPING THE ROTARY.
Edit: may 2023 I got it guys :)
Tell me when you get it cause I'm proud of you
@@yaaaboiflexi7114 I found one but the guy sold it to someone else before I could come up with the cash. IT WASNT MEANT TO BE THIS TIME. BUT NEXT TIME I FIND ONE ILL MAKE A WHOLE VIDEO SERIES. So if I don’t remember go subscribe to my stupid channel so a robot can help us forgetful humans out lol
@@Tacospaceman I will subscribe. I too have been looking and have my eyes on a junker. Just waiting for the opertunity to walk up to his door and bug him to sell me the car he’s been neglecting since 2014. I see that it hasn’t moved on google maps since then.
There used to be a 86 gxl on my street that was also rusting away. I was waiting to get my license and then I would’ve made the old lady an offer but she SCRAPPED IT before I could get to her. She made 600$ off of it I would’ve given her anything more than that. Anyways I’ll stay tuned.
@@yaaaboiflexi7114 makes sense lol, well when I get to my dream RX7 I hope I’ll see you there lol I’ll sub too so I’m notified
@@yaaaboiflexi7114 YO. I promised I’d keep you updated lol, it was my birthday a few days ago, and I don’t have enough $$$, or time, and I haven’t found that 2+2 turbo II dream yet anyway 😂 we will try again next year lol
Sept 24th 2022! LETS GO
One day, I'll be able to buy my RX-7. I hope
This is a beautiful RX-7. A simple but appealing design.
That's my boy. Nice that others get to see your ride.
Dan had some great charisma that made learning about his car so enjoyable! Thank you!
My first car... 1987 RX-7
I appreciate this video/what you have done... keeping the stock look. There were a few aero-kits available for the gen II. Happy to see you didn't getto yours out.
Mine was bought new.
I had racing coils installed which lowered it a half inch
Can't remember the style, but I replaced the rims and ran Goodyear Fulda's (discontinued). This lowered it another half inch. NO OTHER LOWERING AFTER THIS!!!!
205s on the front / 225s on the back... the horizontal profile was perfect (NOT gawdy)
Installed a strut tower brace (and had it shop painted to match the factory saphire blue paint)
Installed a beefier front sway bar
Removed/replaced the stock exhaust manifold and replaced with a mandrel-bent header
Removed/replaced the cat with a "pre-silencer pipe" (creative wording got it DOT-done back in the day)... essentially, a glass pack where the cat once resided
Removed/replaced the stock mufflers with plate-tunable supertrap mufflers. This was ideal... allowing tunable back pressure high/low end expectations
Upgraded the ignition/wires/plugs
Removed the pre-silencer and air box and installed a K&N oil-lubed air filter
Fabricated a whitetrash forced-air intake at the air damn (who knows if it made a difference... but I was passionate about my RX)
Had a racing clutch and light-weight aluminum flywheel installed (this was HUGE for off-line acceleration)
Removed the clutch-driven fan and replaced with an electric radiator-mounted unit (made "the" difference on the top end)
Circa 1988... some Friday or Saturday night... North Texas... I ended up at a stop light with an 88 Ford GT and a Porche 944 Turbo.
I had both by 2+ car lengths when my speedo read 70. Then the GT caught up... and the Turbo blew by us both soon after.
The RX just didn't have the torque to hang in straight line street races. A rocket off the line... but not much after.
Circa the same time... I'm out driving with two friends (220 extra lbs)... at my street "course" and a 300zx twin turbo shows up. Turns out, it's a dealer/salesman selling a car.
We take one lap... to get the lay of the land... then we hit it...
We're both hanging... RX is right with him... we get to the hair pin and dealer guy decides to "show the ZX's stuff" and stomps on it...
I just back off and tell my passengers... "watch this... he's done..."
Dealer guy puts it into the curb and 360s twice before the pristine showroom model comes to rest. Rims totaled... and who-knows about the suspension
True stories.
0-60 (guessing, based on the 944 Turbo night) 5.5 sec or maybe better
I topped her out on the Indian Nations Turnpike (OK) one evening at (an indicated) 146 mph (daylight, headlamps down)
Drove her from ATL to DFW in under 8 hours. We were flat-out at 120+ for several hours of the trip (driver + co-pilot with binoculars and a "Maxiim" radar detector).
No tickets
I LOVED that car. Sorry I ended up selling her.
Your video took me back. Wish I was of more financial means now (far from it / 2021).
I'd rebuy my childhood memories if given the chance.
Ya'll be safe. God bless.
Kind of funny. I watched this about a year ago when I picked up my FC, and kind of forgot I wacthed it. Now I've actually talked to Dan a good bit and will hopefully get to go on cruises with him and a few more FC buddies once mine is running again. Just weird how life works out
I just bought an 88 GTU but I need a LOT of help sourcing parts and with the ins and outs of it. Any way you could point me in the direction of some contact info? I started vlogging my car on my channel but I'm still sourcing a LOT. Thanks!
@@pedrorodrigueziii4859 Atkins Rotary, Racing Beat and Mazdatrix will be your friends when searching for new parts/aftermarket parts. Aside from that, Facebook marketplace and Ebay. Always check marketplace and groups first before going to Ebay because you'll always pay more on Ebay. Good luck on the build my man!
Love it I building a widebody FC 1987 t2
I've got an 88 GTU I just started. Any tips on where I can source an engine/trans?
@@pedrorodrigueziii4859 NA/ ? Or t2 Engine /Trans?
Great car man. I wouldn't abuse it by drifting it if it were mine, but to each their own.
I hate how everyone mentions that the apex seals make contact 100% of the time and that that is their demise...because piston rings do the same thing in a cylinder wall. this difference is that the apex seals get combustion pressure more directly. As the flame from combustion propogates outward it drives toward the apex of a triangle where the seal sits. Yes, lubrication is key, and premix is good insurance for that, but its not the constant contact with the rotor housing, its how the combustion takes place.
I have one. Same color i think, and a dark Maroon one. Also had a blue and white one. This video inspiring me to fix them. Currently driving the FR-S but still miss that 7 feel.
Cars from the late 80s are just so beautiful I'm currently working on a late 80s chrysler laser xe turbo and it's been a blast so far I need to put a new engine in it but I'm already in love with the car and I haven't even driven it
3-4 FCs and 3-4 FDs? That's rare?? That sounds like you got them all over the place! I've seen 1 FC here in Arizona in the last 6 years.
we have about 1-3 on sale in my entire country annually :D
I’m from Idaho and I’ve never seen one in real life in 23 years. It’s a myth
Gorgeous car man! I bought my '87 RX-7 Turbo II back in 1997. Sold it years ago. It was a pain in the fucking ass but I miss it to death.
This was a great vid mate. Cheers! I desperately have been looking for a good FC to add as a partner to my FD.
Cylinder scene covering a rotory lol beautiful FC
This man drifting his car meanwhile.................hope my starts and runs more then a day lol
Can’t get tired of them
This guy sounds like he knows wtf he’s talking about. Smart dude.
Im getting one of these for 8 grand and i don't even have my drivers permit yet
6:29 ITS A MIATAA AWW
It’s so beautiful
The paint is similar to my 95 SL2. Its black metallic, when the sun hits it it turns dark blueish black metallic. And I did all polyurethane bushings too. Port and polish intake, bigger TBI, cold intake, header, lowering springs , KYB's , a Seibon carbon fiber hood, and a $200 momo racing steering wheel, and dropped an additional 50 lbs off the car. Can't get rid of it either.. Lol gonna get RPF1s also and toyo proxies, and lower it even more, got 10 years out of the H&R's so I'm gonna do Eibach race springs also, nice Mazda, a fan of Mazda also!!!
Wait why do you have to throw the engine away when it burns coolant and not just rebuild it.
Some you can just re seal, unless theres damage and pitting to the irons and rotors due to the coolant leaking in to the combustion chamber.
Good Job Dan .
My boi had the exact car gtu..
Feels like I'm watching Gran Turismo
I feel grip and time attack is cheaper then drifting atleast now days around my area.
Mine is an NA 86 model with Royal Maroon. Very rare colour in Australia.
Love how simple the exterior of the car is!! Do you know what the wheel specs and tire size are? Thanks!
hey just sayin, i have an rx8 and i know it gets alot of hate but that car is awesome. It handels on rails and reving to 9000 is the best feeling
I deleted the metering pump too and i use premix now.
What radiator u using
can we see more of this car?
What's your premix ratio
I have a 1986
You say RX7's are rare. I have one of the rarest RX7 FC ever produced. A Red 1989 GTUs with 70,000 miles.
Better than a new Porsche Turbo S. I’ve owned both
What exhaust was he running?
Forever a rotary guy...no clue what GTU is. 😂🤣🤣
I have a 1988 mazda rx7. Great video Can we link up. I hope you can assist me on the vacuum leaks and seals. My car sputters.
I have a clean 1988 RXy to sell!
This car is pure porn
No love for the rx8 man😂
A copy to the 944😂, but nice car.
I love my SE, never owned a more enjoyable unique car.
