- Suzuki Vitara Turbo 2020 In-Depth Review by MattBrandCars. In today's review, we look at the new facelifted Suzuki Vitara Turbo on sale here in Australia with the 1.4L Boosterjet. But how does it compare to the Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Venue or Mitsubishi ASX?

Video is fine mate👍
9,000km so far in my yellow/black Allgrip. No rattles anywhere. 6.1 litre/100 km is the norm. Will keep for many years. Very happy.
Yeah I think it was just a build quality issue with my press car 😊
The yellow and black combo is my favourite! Great choice!
Mine is stuck at 4.7l/100km. Best car in the market!
221 000kms so far in my 2019 vitara turbo, couldn't be happier!
hi.what parts have you changed during this period? any problems with direct injection.(carbon deposits on valves) .
Yeah, any issue?
Don't mind hard plastics don't see the problem it's easy to clean, great review
Bought a 2018 Swift sport with the same engine. Fabolous car and magic engine and brakes. Have now also bought a 2019 vitara with that engine. Love both cars.
1.4 engine puts out 155-160 hp at dynos.
Owner of the 4WD mild hybrid here, 20000km and a year in.
Plus points are, the driving experience. It's surprisingly nimble and fun especially in the winter. You can definely go sideways! And if you go longer journeys and keep it below 100km/h you can easily manage below 6L/100km.
The interior feels like the weakest link, materials feel like they arent going to wear super well. But that is unfortunately true of most new cars today.
While looking at second hand cars, i first thought the vitara had worn badly. But then i compared it to a lot of competitors, even upmarket.
Cars are so weight focused now that materials are super thin, to save every ounce. And my vitara has so far worn better than our 2021 skoda superb. at similar mileage. But at less than half the price. It lies somewhere inbetween the Swift sport and the Jimny. Its good fun to drive, and still competent on forest roads. Thumbs up from me!
@pioneerz450 how about the noise on highway? I 've read that you get a lot of noise. How is it for example at 140km/h? What's your experience?
Called the 1.4 Boosterjet in the UK, no Turbo badge on the tailgate. Audio controls are also on the steering wheel. A really good economical and also very nippy SUV, mine has No rattles at all. The SZ5 has a very good spec with nice comfortable seats.
Just picked up a low km 2021 facelift. There is little to complain about, apart from maybe the halogen high beams. I will probably swap the lamps out for xenons in the near future.
It's comfortable, has all the important safety features, is economical, and has decent performance and handling for a car in this class. No rattles in mine either, nor on the 3 others I test drove.
Its a really nice small suv just bought one recently and pretty happy with engine,, just amazing
Awesome! What colour did you get?
Great review! You nailed every aspect of the car. Actually, you made me buy it 😊 And guess what, i'm so happy i made that decision. Thank you so much. I can confirm 1.4 Turbo MT, is so great engine and very well defined transmission. Car is quick and sporty in town, but confident over bumps and cornering and relaxing at speedways. And at the top of everything, engine is not thirsty at all. Love it ❤
The brisk rate of acceleration comes down to the excellent little turbo and good auto gearbox. But the main thing is the ultra light weight of this car. It’s genuinely hundreds of kilos lighter than most competitors and that is obvious through the every part of the way it drives. Yes the plastics inside are a bit cheap feeling, but honestly nobody cares about that once you own and use a car daily, it’s more of a point of comparison when you are scrutinising multiple options. But the drive of this little car is actually phenomenal.
Well said!
I own a 10yr old swift and the hard plastic interior is like the day I bought it, perfect condition and has never melted or gone yucky like other materials. Suzuki know exactly what they’re doing.
@@indianajones4016 You're swift was built in Japan. The new ones are made in Thailand. The vitara is made in Hungary.
@@7s29 same materials and quality tho
I own a 2016 model and haven't had any problems, I love my car Lillie 😊
I’m not sure this kid is old enough to know the difference between quality and longevity. Have a look at any average cars from 10 years ago and I bet the Suzuki’s have held up better in most cases.
Well, Matt... the problems with the interior noise caused by the dashboard must be a design flaw in this single car you tested. The interior materials are cheap due to the low retail price (as I think). True. But the workmanship is good. Don't have these problems in my Vitara 1.4 AllGrip.
Overall, you are absolutely right. Many thanks for your review. The engine is so small, isn't it?! But the turbocharging works perfectly and the Vitara is a crossover lightweight. You can feel it when you kick down the throttle after traffic light switches to green. :)
Rattles probable caused by reviewers tapping and scratching at dash instead of driving with both hands
Glad someone found out this is a warm hatch just up high. I guess the AWD took to fun factor out of many review vehicles.
You failed to mention that it ways much less than many hatches on the market, and that spicy Swift Sport engine yanking along that light body, just looks like the steering should have been made sharper.
If for some sad reason I was forced to drive an SUV, my first choice would be this one.
It was very fun from memory, though it has been a while since I drove it! The Swift Sport I recently reviewed though reminded me why I love the 1.4L Boosterjet :)
Spot on review. I got one in July and I'm loving the drive.
Thank you!
My dad owns a 2019 Scross 1.4 just without the Turbo thingy. 140hp/103kw and even without turbo it's stupidly fast too because it's light
Its turbo too
@@volt8684 dont the turbo cars havr a special turbo badge in the back?
@@AdamMaroc26 the 1.4 engine is called the booster jet in the uk, they dont have turbo on th back, but I believe it is the same turbo charged engine. Very energetic little motor
Is this the 1.4 mild hybrid,
Please read the instructions for the machine firstly. It says how to switch gearbox modes. You will learn how not to accidentally enter manual mode when using the gearbox.
mpg?
The fiscal buttons are on the steering wheel
Bit harsh on the interior, to be honest it's really nice imo.
agree, who spends their time touchy feely all over the car, its a wonder he didnt say the exterior is a bit hard also
Agreed. It's no nonsense and a very comfortable place to be.
First thing I did was put twin pipe on its exhaust. Looks better
I've done quad tips
I'm tossing up between a Honda hr v vti s and this car. I like the Vitara much more on the outside but I like the Honda more on the inside, even though the screen is a bit meh. What do you think?
I haven't driven the Honda so can't give great insight! But I can say, the way the Vitara drives at that price is unparalleled 🙂
Take a test drive at the dealers. :)
My recommendation is the 4WD "AllGrip" Vitara. Though I might expect that you won't have trouble with snow in sunny Australia, the smart all wheel drive system is real fun.
Cvt in the Honda yuk
I just hope they can do a facelift on its interiors
Next My Car Vitara Brezza 👍👍👍
Nice!
no voice in audio only music
Great no nonsense review. One criticism- no such word as "button (button), same as some say "important (important). It sounds lazy.
What does Turbo means? Does it have sport nioisy cars sound ??
A turbo is a device some engines have, that effectively pushes more air into the engine so it can burn more fuel and go faster. It's not a noisy car 🙂
Thank you so much for your helpful response, if i wanna buy sport car with loud exhaust sound, what i should search for ? Thanks Heaps 🙏
I wish this comes to India
I'm as keen as a diabetic eating a jelly bean
Look at his face at 4:46 and you will see a real jelly
My mum has that car
Same engine and possibly transmission of the Suzuki swift sport.....I think.
It is! 😊
I own a 2017 Vitara S with the 1.4 engine and it is very good. I also own a 2018 Swift but the 1litre sz5 version. That's equally good 0 to 60 and top speed very close to the 1.4 in fact its about 0.5 seconds quicker. Not noticeable. I've never got out the Swift and said oh that needs 30bhp more. So the Sport must be awesome.
@@howardbowen-RC-Pilot still good?
Test drove 1.6 was thirsty.
Must be turbo when we think abt vitara.
I really love the powerplant, and I thought it was alright. If you use it to its full extent, absolutely it can be quite thirsty!
So simple: FFF - Fuel For Fun! ;)
But in the mix, you won't be disappointed. Around 7 litres is typical for a fairly offensive driving style like I have. But you can easily reach the 6l consumption figures if you drive with appropriate restraint.
Its design is hard to nail. I have one and Vitaras are uncommon so people goes, what is that?
The front is the best part, it osez masculinity and that is good on the road it keeps people in place, people will stay put and give way If I drive one of those marsmallow designed candycars people will not pay the same amount of respect.
The sides of the car are not bad looking but in somehow from an side angel the car looks smaller than it actually is and I will think it is a kind of one size fits all thing, it will hardly upset anyone but neither give any kind of chills, the back is very anonymus, a purely functional clean design that in my mind suits this type of car very well.
I had my Vitara Turbo for about a year, absolutely loved the engine, so zippy, but mostly everything else was a miss for me unfortunately. The whole thing just feels so cheap, which isn't always a bad thing, but not when you're forking out $34k, a little overpriced in my opinion.
Nice review honest .
That rattle in dashboard it's ver easy to solve and it's a mistake by Suzuki but again it's super easy to solve no need to take apart nothing .
I have the 1 4 allgrip great car for the money.
Thanks Hugo!
Can you please share how to solve this rattle in the dashboard?
@@tayeh10 ir your rattle noise is in front of speedometer in dashboard the process is simple pull down you steering wheel then lift the black plastic under the speedometer you will see two transparent "nail's" that came from the plastic of cluster painel .
That two plastic nail's hit the black plastic cover in some bad roads or in very hot days the plastic get soft...
@@tayeh10 if you need more help ,ask me for messenger and I help you . facebook.com/hugo.santos.75054
There is more rattle's if this is not your issue I will tell you what I did, for the dashboard in front of passenger side that colour parte that is removable.
@@hugojlsantos hi Hugo , can you share more details please ? I have the same issue with the plastic ? Do I need to get rid of those 2 plastic nails ??
Volume is on the steering wheel. And stop bitching about the so called cheap plastics. Every test the same stuff. Its a car for using not a stupid Audi. Seats are great too, i am 1.90 m tall. I owe a 2019 1400 automatic all grip, brilliant quality overall. I do like it inside.
Lol. Calm down. He's doing a review and all reviews are subjective to the reviewer. Not everyone prioritises the aspects of a car the same. He's not having a go at you. It's fine if you're OK with the plastics and he isn't.
@@pheenix1976 These tester copy eachother every time. As if everybody touches a dashboard all the time.
@@Coordinator61 I agree most people don't touch the dash all that often but cheap plastics can cause creaking and squeaking as the car ages not to mention can crack if exposed to the sun for a long time ie if you park outside. His review is his opinion and other people might consider this an important factor when buying a car. You can't expect the review to cater only to you.
@@pheenix1976 i drive many older japanese cars and suv s including grand vitaras. Those plastics go on forever. Never seen cracks or heard rattles.
@@Coordinator61 yes I used to own a vitara too. Didn't have rattles but the plastics are different in these newer cars. Even in Mini's and some. Mercedes they squeak n rrattle. I was honestly shocked how rattly Mini's can get and they're made by BMW. People like the luxury feel. If it doesn't matter to us it's fine. Just let them like what they like. I'm not going to take offence if they criticise a car that I've bought because they value different things to me and that's OK. They're criticising the car, not me.
Why not just do a voice over 🤷🏻♂️
To repost a video would be to lose the ranking of the vid, which is on a good upward trajectory! So this video I'll keep as is -- all fixed for newer videos though 😊

Really wanted to see ( and hear ! ) this video as I’m seriously considering purchase of this model .
Disappointing.
Why quote the power and torque figures in horse power and foot pounds, especially in a car brand that isn't sold in the US?
the audio on your video its awful it sucks
Focus 😲
IT was as though the camera was in the wrong spot and focused in on his watch the whole time.
Yep poor work by me. All issues with videography and audio have been fixed in my latest videos :)
the vitara is a shitara
can you please elaborate..
