Suzuki Vitara Hybrid 2020 review

  • I reviewed the 1.0-litre Suzuki Vitara last year (link below) but that engine is no more. However for 2020 you do get improved spec and a new mild-hybrid engine with a manual gearbox. I rated the Vitara extremely highly as a great all-round family SUV for the city that was also entertaining to drive, but has the hybrid diluted the experience?

    I have the previous 2018 vitara S 1.4T and it’s a lot of fun.. 0-60 is actually 8 seconds! Many had put it on the dyno showing 165bhp+ and 220nm
    Power to weight it weights less than a 5 door Vauxhall corsa lol 😂
    For a family suv crossover it’s impressive

      @@mabsbry1318 that’s the STD engine no mods ...
      stage 1 takes it to 170-180bhp safe map and torque goes up to 280 nm 🤗🥳

      @@baz1462 cool. Can you tell me, is this a Suzuki stage 1 tune, or a tuner. Can you tell me where I can look to get this done? Cheers

    Really like these cars. You get a lot of car for the money when you consider the amount of kit you get plus Suzuki reliability. Some very small cars these days are not much cheaper than these. Changing my car next year and this Suzuki is on my list and may join my Suzuki motorcycle and Suzuki Cappuccino sports car. Have just subscribed to your channel. Great review thank you.

    I purchased the new 70 plate vitara hybrid for my wife . She loves it and the extra safety like lane correction and auto distance in cruise control is impressive for a 23k SUV. I may even get one myself when I get fed up with my Civic lol

    I have the 1.4 turbojet with an automatic and the combination is outstanding, in my mind it is perfect! I might bee wrong here but why mess with perfect?
    I had a Toyota Auris hybrid before my Vitara and well...one had to drive it in a special manner to get those lean figures and I did but it was not me. A car will adapt to me and not the other way around where I have to sit and catch sweetspots in its register and keep my eyes on the RPM. When I drove the Auris as I would do normaly the car consumed more fuel than a equal petrol driven!
    I will think that the hybrid is an end street!

    I've had Vitara's since 1997 and they have been great! Extremely reliable, economical and the 4 wheel drive versions are great in snow and getting out of fields in the winter.
    Sadly, I changed mine for an EV and really regret it. It has to go back at the end of the year and I'll probably go back to a Vitara or possibly the new Dacia Duster. Trouble is the VED costs now! The government really knows how to rip off the motorist. They have it sewn up every which way. When they finally price everyone (obviously, except for the rich) off the road, where will they get all that lovely money from?

    I have the previous Vitara and like it very much but I'm surprised it only comes with a manual gearbox. They've gone to all the trouble of developing a hybrid ( to avoid big EU fines) but didn't go with a twin clutch gearbox ? I dont want a manual 6 speed so Im hanging out to see if the dc box comes out in the spring. If not there are still some non hybrid auto's to be had.

    • @BrownCarGuy
      @BrownCarGuy  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes plenty out there, and I’d expect Suzuki to introduce the auto soon, especially in this segment. But as a fan of manual transmissions I can’t help but admire them for going manual-only at least to start with, bucking trends in an era where even most sports cars are automatics now LOL
