We are unbelievably blessed to be able to do this as well as I consider myself SO fortunate to have been raised here. I hope it’ll be good, it’ll definitely be an adventure!
Hey thanks Mark!! It’s been a ton of work and looking at it now after kind of letting it go during the summer it’s hard to tell I’ve done anything. We have a much better starter point for next year though.
Zack, looks great. Plant some Fennel even if you don't use it. Fennel is a massive bee magnet.Throw the ash from your burn piles on the ground where you till next time. A lot of horse stables will fill up the back of your truck with composted horse manure. Throw that down before you till. If you come see me soon, I'll give you some of the 180 varieties of Tomato plants I have as well as about 50 different types of peppers if you happen to come to "my town" soon.
I have thought about it, I asked the former operator of this spot about it and she said she never had any problems with runoff. Will definitely keep it in mind and adjust our technique as necessary.
Thank you Hogan, for some reason it’s something that I’ve struggled with. I’m glad to hear I’m finally getting it dialed in. I really appreciate you saying so.
woohoo! hiya Zack from Edinburgh, Scotland!, I came across a video of yours 'what not to do in Scotland' on a Scottish facebook page, liked your presentation so thought i would come find you here on YT. THEN i find i found i like your content/videos and ive subbed.
What a cool revival project. What part in general is the garden in Michigan. My wife grew up[ 1 mile south of the Michigan border with South Bend Indiana.
Mate, I got to ask, what is that on your shirt, did your marvelous beard back out a baby? 😳😉😆 Look into hoogle culture gardening if you haven't already, one of the healthiest and easiest ways to garden! And you'll be able to pretty much use all the crap you've dug out to feed back into the soil, no waste at all...👌🏽 Amazing job you've all done.👍🏽
I have looked into hoogle beds and may well go there in the future. At the moment I’m going with what I (kind of) know for this season. RE the growth: it looks much less like a beard baby than it did when I tried it up nearer to my collar lol
Hey Dave! I think we do in the region but I’ve never seen any. The garden is 500ft or 1/2 mile away lol 500ft if you hike straight down the hill 1/2 mile if you take the road. Some serious terrain around here. I hope you’re well man
what's with that North American burning the shrub? Couldn't you shred it, and have loads of mulch? I do get the efficiency angle, just wondering. Shredding is what I do on my tiny, tiny patch. Bury what's to big to shred in a hugel, and burn the rest as firewood. Or leave it piled in a row up as a natural bear fence? (that's meant to be a joke)
Envious, in a Happy sort’of Way. Good Work. The beard is a little disconcerting,,, ‘sure hope it’s not a Sign of some kinda’wacky fanaticism... 🤔😬 Other than that, Super Cool,,,,, Bears hunhh..? Don’t mean to sound Alarmist,,, Do Take Care. Keep’em Coming,,, the Vids& Fruit, not so much the Bears. Have a Good One 👍👌

Not going to lie I'm a bit jealous. The fact that you got that area to do that in is amazing. I can't wait to see how it flourishes and grows!

Your videos are awesome zack
I remember that garden when I was a kid hanging out with your brother
Amazing to see the place being brought back to life

Man, I’ll definitely let you know if we get near!
Good job on reclaiming the garden and trees.
Thank you, it has been nothing less than a family labor of love.
There is just nothing better than fresh-picked homegrown veggies.
I couldn’t agree more.
So excited 😁!!!
Have you considered building swales or contour beds? (Basically tiers) helps with water and soil (nutrient run off).
I have thought about it, I asked the former operator of this spot about it and she said she never had any problems with runoff. Will definitely keep it in mind and adjust our technique as necessary.
Love the matching beard & microphone 🤣
Lol it’s not cheap to have custom stuff like that made. I’m glad someone appreciates it 🤣
Love the update. Sound is on point!

I can't get over what a beautiful piece of property that is. I'd have a hard time focusing on my work over the view.
Yeah, that’s a pretty big problem for me too lol.
We’re so blessed to be able to be caretakers of this amazing spot for a time.
@@ZackOfAllTrades Indeed you are. I look forward to following along!

Hey Danny! Thanks for chasing me down 😁
That is going to be a wonderful patch of land. Have you considered bee hives too?
Yes it is and yes I totally have considered bees. They are going to happen just not sure I’ll be able to do it this first season.
What a cool revival project. What part in general is the garden in Michigan. My wife grew up[ 1 mile south of the Michigan border with South Bend Indiana.
That’s cool!
We’re pretty far North of somewhere 😁

Invest in some of those stick on googly eyes!
😆😆😆😆
The Shoreline, across the Lake,,, It’s,,, It’s,
Instant Mashed Potatoes. I can tell🗿
Yum
Will you leave all those straggly and dead branches on those old fruit trees?
I don’t think so, although there are a couple instances where I *might* leave part of the dead as support for the living. Sounds morbid
"The Hawthorns" sound like jerky neighbors.
Yeah that’s the truth! A real menace
Fun video brother! You get any poison oak/ivy up there? Oh and how far is the garden from your house?
Hey Dave!

I had thought about shredding but having no shredder at the moment I opted otherwise. Good thought though
Hope You’re not Living next Door to the Drysdales’. 🤔🤣
Lol
Looks like Zack has a tribble on his chest. 😛
Lol I’d thought a lot of things about it but somehow the tribble had escaped me 😂
WHERE DID YOU GET THE TRIBBLE? LOL
They’re not easy to come by, as you probably know.
I think this one may have originated in a lab in nahuW
Envious, in a Happy sort’of Way. Good Work.

that is a proper, traditional, Canadian beard.

JK M or KLM or maybe JPL ,,,’ maybe she’d the beard when the Geese fly back in Spring, that too is Traditional...

Maybe I should have Spelled “shed” properly
🤔
Jed Clampett never wore a beard,,, scruffy some Days, maybe,,, but a Good Role Model all the same.
Haven’t yet found any Texas tea just yet.
