A common mistake is to think that it is a disposable watch for US $ 10, and the truth is that there are people using it more than 20 years without problems, it simply changes the battery (which in many countries is really cheap) and ready to using another 5 or 7 years, the strap is changed for an alternative and the watch will continue to be used.
A Chinese watch is disposable (except some Skmei) but a Casio is not a disposable watch, however cheap it may be.

I was a little concerned for its authenticity because it arrived in a padded envelope with no box but after doing the standard drills, it seems 100% genuine Casio. I’ve only had it for a few hours but I think it will fulfill it’s purpose quite well. It’s very light weight and low profile so it should be a great watch to wear at my job (I do industrial hydraulic repair.) When I was a paying my mortgage turning wrenches at a dealership I wore the F91W as a work watch. Like you said, I found the hourly chime helped remind me that time is money when you're paid by the flat rate hour. I also liked how low profile it was so it didn't get caught up on things when I was reaching into an engine compartment. The light sucked, but it worked fine. I took it snorkeling several times and never had an issue with it. It's a great watch, but you can get a 5600 G-shock for $45. So there's that.

Great review of an icon Dave. This watch can be easily modified by making the display negative. It of course makes reading it more difficult, but the coolness factor goes up. If I remember correctly this watch uses a regular bulb for illumination instead of a LED. It has been a while since I had one apart, so I could be wrong.
If you want perhaps a slight upgrade in quality and illumination, then check out a Timex classic 80s style watch. The alarm is just as loud, or louder, it has thicker digits, INDIGLO, and long battery life with a CR2016.
For me the Casio CA-53W is my choice for a cheap Casio. Most people think this is the "Back to the Future" watch; it is not. That was the Casio CA-50 with the 437 module. The one major draw back to the CA-53W is there is no illumination. Keep up the great reviews!

Definitely not ugly, it is timeless design, just like fender stratocaster, braun products, converse all star, even apple watch use the shape for their watches (rounded corners shape). However I kind of agree with you because of the markings .. should be more simple or one color.. now that would make it more pretty and sleek. PS. also what made me love it the most is the accuracy. I bet it can beat a Rolex or other luxurious watches.

My first Casio was a CA-80 calculator watch which was great. It even had a game where a sequence of advancing numbers would be deleted before they filled the display. Unfortunately I stripped the + button off when I had my hands deep inside a dashboard which made it unusable. I tend to destroy watches so I got out of the habit of wearing one. I like the simplicity of this watch but the strap is barely big enough for me. I bought a nylon strap and I need to fight it on. For me a watch is a tool, this is a functional tool for a very low price. I will probably buy another Casio with a better strap interface. Any suggestions for a basic model that you don't have to fight a replacement band on?

If you need to log something in the 24 hr format, instead of AM/PM, a push of the lower right button in the Time display mode will get you there and back. Most digitals make you go in the setup mode to do that.

This is a great watch for working out/athletics imo. I wear one when I go to the gym, since I don't like taking even my daily driver to the gym for the fear of damage/scratching. Gets the job done, may eventually upgrade to a DW5600, but I think this is the best entry into the digital watch world.

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  Před 5 lety +1

Thank you for the review, I've seen many Casio reviews about many Casio watches, my take away is always what's good & bad about the watches and helps me with an informed decision.
The F91 is interesting, can't tell but is the LCD screen up close to the acrylic glass on this watch? I ended up on F105, A168, W93h mainly b/c of the better electroluminescent light. The W93h b/c of the auto light.
I noticed on the F105, the screen is up close to the acrylic glass, almost like looking on a phone screen.
These three watches are thin digital watches, I have g-shocks, Casio Duros, Seiko 5, Citizen, Orient watches. I wouldn't say my style is no where close to high end but more of average collection.
    Thanks again for the review!

I really like the alarm tone of that watch model. The A168, F-105W, F-108W, W-86-1VQES , W-217 and W-218, W-219 also have the same alarm tones like the F-91W.
I currently own a B640W because it has more features and better water resistance of 50 meters but I don’t like its alarm tone that much which is why I also bought the A168 and W-218 as I like the alarm tones of these models and the latter also have better water resistance which is 50 meters.

I have always worn a watch and just like not using my phone sometimes. I always have the F91W on at home and on my morning walks where I just need the time. It's perfect. On days my other watches fail or I just feel like it, I even wear it to work. I'll admit though, I am a little more conscious of it when I wear it to work. But I feel excited wearing it all the same.

Excellent video once again, and thanks for sharing.
IMO, one of the nicest aspects with this thing (as mentioned in the video) is that you don't even notice that you're wearing something beyond that thin plastic strap wrapped around your wrist. The F-91W has to be one of the most comfortable watches ever, since it's barely noticeable.
Having small wrists, I rarely wear like 40-42 mm watches. But for instance; Changing from a diver, a square G-shock, a dress watch or a moderate size (or really small ones, 40s style) vintage watch into this; You just can't beat the comfort. Considering the durability and quality as well contra the price; It will always be a winner. And, once again, the battery life is just ridiculous.
And I mean, if Al Qaeda (spelling?) used it as a tool in bomb making, and a young handsome Barack Obama had already posed with it (like he was doing model work for H&M) some decade before: Hello, of course you'd want one of these! It's horology! But I will always agree though: The lightning function sucks elephant convoys, lol!

FWIW, reasonable replacement straps could be found on ebay and aliexpress for less than $1 USD shipped. Styles are nearly identical, to very similar. Do a search with the terms "silicone watch band 18mm" and sort by price low to high. They aren't silicone, just similar flexible plastic like the one it came with. I also found that regular spring bars worked fine to replace the pins.
An alternative I like is the Casio W201-1AV. Sells for a couple bucks more usually. Similar small, thin, lightweight form factor. Not quite as bulky as the W800. But compared to the F91, the W201 has better light, better calendar, better battery life, better water resistance that holds up to snorkeling. And the buttons don't protrude as much, which I find a positive feature, but some may dislike.
