  • There is not much to complain about with the Kubota L3901, but I do have a couple gripes. We haven't had any problems with it. We've had the the tractor now for over 5 months and have put over 80 hours on the clock and wanted to share the things we don't like about it here in this tractor video.

    We've used this tractor all over our 43 acre farm, and really can't complain about all this Kubota tractor has done for us so far. Most of my complaints are minor inconveniences, which I know every tractor has issues and isn't perfect.

    Thanks for the video. Tractors are frustrating. The l3901 cost is great, but with the negatives you mentioned. But then stepping up to a Grand L to eliminate those is a huge cost jump.

    This is very good, honest, useful feedback. Thanks for not inserting a bunch of emotional fluff and drama. Many channels do that and make a ten minute video into 45! I'm always looking for good and better information and there's only 24 hours in a day! The whole point of all this is to help each other out and be efficient at it too! So thanks again!

    Great things you pointed out. Just bought an L3301 the other day and getting much use already. I could do a video just on backhoe. But I did get the new hybrid tires, first L that dealer put them on and seem to work great in all our soft spring fed ground mud and horse manure. So far I would recommend those to anyone looking

    I have the same rig as you and I am mostly happy with it. I agree about the switch and the screen. I added a toolbox made from an ammo can so now it has more cubic inches of volume. My fuel gauge doesn't move off full until the tank is half empty. I made a dipstick to keep up with that. You might make a tool to remove the oil dipstick and keep it handy. I am a big guy and do have the same problems in the cab area. All in all though, it was a worthwhile purchase for me and I do recommend the tractor. Thank you for the video!

      @@WoodsTreeFarm hay guys. i am with Mark on this one. I have considered making and sell aftermarket solutions to many of the problems with tractor. such as the seat adapter, dipstick adapters, larger cap toolbox, and chainsaw and other long equipment (shovel, rake) to attach to tractor. I do a lot of work miles from the barn and it sux when i have to go back to get something that i could have carried with me.

    I'm 6'4" and own a L3301, I just made a frame to move my seat back 4 inches and up 3", not only did it eliminate the hitting the switch issue but also helped with me using the hydrostatic pedals. I've used my loader for huge loads and my only time having a problem lifting was a 26" tree stump with my grapple. Overall I wouldn't purchase any other brand

    Bought my L3901 in November of 2018 and generally it does all I need it to do. I agree that the loader capacity is not the greatest, but it's a fast worker. As for the radiator screen, when I'm brush-hogging high grass it does get clogged a lot. I usually have the loader off for that particular task and removing the screen is easy. But as you noted, a gas powered blower does the trick quickly and easily. And yes, the foot well on the right side has barely enough room for my size 12 boot. But it's a "compact" utility tractor.

  • @wielanwheel1
    @wielanwheel1 Před 2 lety +1

    Unbelievable, you summed up my complaints exactly, I also did not like the fact there was only one hand rail on fender well, cant turn my head around as good as I used to, it was not expensive but still. The other complaint I have is the regen situation, keep your RPMs up at all times, that regen can is expensive. The older the tractor gets the more it will come on, do not let it idle for long periods of time. The big thing with me is how reliable this tractor has been (600+ hours). Live in upstate new york, push horse poop, push snow, fire wood, finish mow 4 acres weekly, brush hog 10 acres 4 times a year, great tractor. way better than my 1984 1710 ford, which was a good machine as well, over all love the machine

  • @utubota5522
    @utubota5522 Před 5 lety +1

    All of your remarks are valid. My complaint is the location of the FEL control. Rather than putting the stick on the fender, so you can exit the tractor from both sides, they put this long stick in the way. Cheaper tractors have this figured out. When my machine is out of warranty, I plan on replacing this stick with an electric control, and mounting it on the ARM REST, which I have installed. You are correct: Kubota did not consider ergonics when laying out the driver's area. Also, my emergency flashers are on half the time. That is a really poor location for the switch. Again, after warranty, I will relocate.

  • @michaelmurphy5029
    @michaelmurphy5029 Před 5 lety +3

    I've had my L3901 hydro for just over 2 years, and have 250 hrs, you have nailed it on most complaints, except my loader, same as yours will definitely lift the rated 1700+ lbs, BUT the rear end becomes very light...and that's with a 6' rear box blade. Mine will lift a full heaping load of 73 gravel no problem (get you RPMs up over 2000), but once again rear is light and you don't want to be leaning on a grade. You may need to get your tractor checked? I have heavy clay soil also, and it has no problems lifting a heaped bucket (even wet). My complaint is the 3-point lift lever, if I'm twisted/turned to the right trying to look at the rear implement in motion and need to tweak lever, my leg is always resting on lift lever. Lever needs positioned more to the rear side, and yes my foot will get caught on pedals just as you say.

    • @donaldstrishock3923
      @donaldstrishock3923 Před 2 lety +1

      Well at 1700+ lbs of loader lift this sounds ( and maybe) is phenomenal. They are only rated at 1100lbs at the front pivot pin Without NOTING on the loader attached. Did you "pill it up" or shim the pressure by-pass WAY UP? Or maybe you got one on steroids. Is they front axle bent like a pretzel? With 1700lbs + 250lbs pallet forks,and lots of front "leverage" you would have to 1200lbs of counter-weight to have an Ounce of weight on the rear wheels! My Kubota Mx5200 with the backhoe can ONLY lift with the forks lift 1700lbs to 3 feet ( forks weigh 350lbs)=2050 lbs. Where as it's rated to lift 2200lbs TO 54"& 1750lbs to full HEIGHT AT THE PIVOT PIN ONLY (& l believe IT). Surprisingly it can lift 3500lb + 350lb forks (slab of concrete weighed on scale) to HEIGHT of 4 inches!; with the backhoe bucket fully extended (12' and clamping a 400 boulder). I like to hear these storys.

    Do agree with you on #52 Complaints. I'm 6'2" and get a little cramped. Another point that can be made is that I had an alternator go out while still in warranty. However, with it being fairly new, the first thing you check is the battery right?
    There is no way to get that battery out ergonomically correct! I removed it just to take it and get the battery checked only to find out that it was fine.
    Being a big guy, I also find the brush cutter to not be the easiest thing to detach and hook up. There is just not a lot of room for me to get comfortable in and out to change attachments.
    This is the first tractor that I have personally ever purchased for myself and the L3901 was what was in my budget. Overall I am satisfied with it. Sometimes I do wish that I had a little more horsepower.

  • @IManOPERATOR
    @IManOPERATOR Před 4 lety +2

    I completely agree with the loader it can use more break out force for sure. I’ve loaded 1500 lb dug fur just this week it is an okay job. Had to keep the weight as far back in the forks to lift the arms. Unless you have suitcase weights for more balanced weight it’s a good thing the loader can’t handle more weight it would be unsafe for a lot of users.
    I’m 6’1” I’ve never hit the flasher button before looking back. I’m probably gana do it now cause I’ve seen it lol.
    I deal with red clay and silt all the time up in the mountains where I live I’ve had no traction issues with the r4s I would check make sure you’re not over inflated.

My 1st tractor, which I still have, is a John Deere 650,[ Yanmar] 2 wd, no loader, manual trans, limited hydraulics which I NEVER use anymore! Regarding the ergonomics; it's a compact tractor. Just gotta deal with it or move up to a bigger machine. I've expereinced the same issues in the drivers area but just deal with it knowing that we need to make concessions on a smaller machine. Everything else is being really nitpicky. I've had my 3901 up to the axles in mud and the R4's pulled it out just fine.

    We’re located in Wood River, IL. We bought a BRAND NEW L3901 about 5 months ago. It has been in the REPAIR SHOP so many times that we lost count. Currently it’s (again) in the REPAIR SHOP sense March 9th 2020 and today is March 29th 2020 and they do not even have the parts yet. LOL - the part is the hydraulic shifter that operates the front bucket. They replaced this item about 2 months ago yet now Kubota Corp can’t decide to fix it in a timely manner. They had a (RECALL) on this hydraulic shifter so they switched manufacturers and gave it a new part number. We bought a NEW tractor bc we didn’t want to turn wrenches yet that’s all we been doing. We are going to upload some VIDEOS starting with DAY ONE so you know what to expect after buying a kubota tractor. I hope they make it right with us. I WILL KNOW WITHIN A WEEK IF THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE IT RIGHT. We will see and I will let you know ASAP. We have ask our dealer to contact Kubota Corp and do something with this ((( LEMON ))). Sure would have expected MORE & FASTER results from a big company like Kubota. Told them the day we bought it that we have mountains of dirt to move, guess they was just eager to make the sale and didn’t care idk ??? But now we in a situation of HELP US -or- FIX IT NOW. ===> It’s simple. It’s going to BREAK ===> It’s going to BREAK ===> It’s going to BREAK. How much does Kubota want to spend on warranty work ??? They knew we had mountains of dirt to move so they even loaned us a kubota tractor for a week or so until our tractor was in stock. Yes that’s how bad we needed it to move dirt. BUT - It wouldn’t run!!! We will UPDATE this ASAP to let everyone know if Kubota took care of us or NOT. Thank you for your time reading this. We are going to update with live videos. Thx Randy M. (PS) I agree with the gentleman that made above video. His #1 complaint was the FRONT LOADER. It’s definitely undesirable.

    I had the same issues with mine. I sold my L3301. For bigger. Anyway I didn’t have issues with the stock lights But yea that loader cap sucked actually they said take the LA 525 and times it by 2 that’s you lift cap. Now yea like you said put a bucket on and now your down under a thousand lb cap. I remembered bypass the seat switch that was a pain sometimes I need to stand up when I had pallet forks up front. It was a really great tractor I did love it. Nothing better than kubota. I ended up getting a M7060 because I needed it to be able to lift 2k lb pallets of feed. This does it with ease
    You mentioned the R4 tires yea I had the same as you. I never had an issue with them in mud. They even weren’t to bad in the snow either when I plowed the drive. Remember the AG tires are not really rated for heavy weight lifting on the front so what you have I’d stick with. They do make this year a new R14T tire which is really cool. It’s a blend in between the AG and R4.
    Anyway good vid thanks.

    I am right at the 200hr mark for my 2yr old L3901. I love the tractor and I would say my only big complaint is that I sometimes wrench my knee twisting my body to get off and on the tractor. I am 6'4 and have never hit the hazard light switch though. I guess you are more left-handed and turn that way to check behind you. I normally turn to my left with my right hand on the wheel and my left hand on the fender grip rail.
    I can carry good gravel or soil loads in the front loader bucket, but it is not good for actually digging holes. I am thinking about adding the rear hydraulics and getting an excavator implement. The tractor also burns through diesel gas pretty quickly when I am using the finishing mower. The higher RPMs for rear PTO implements really use up the petrol. All-in-all - I am really happy with my Kubota L3901 - may just get an M-Series next time for bigger finishing mowers ; )

    Great Honest review 👍 Kubota makes a super reliable tractor but the L series is a bit dated on Hydraulic's and ergonomics. L series is an economic based/priced compact tractor so there will be short comings like you have stated. I like honest opinions on real world use. Are your rear tires weighted with beet juice/rim guard? Our New Holland Boomer and soon to arrive Monday Kioti CK both have weighted rear tires it helps those R4 tires big time with muddy traction.

      Thanks for the kind words. I DO like the tractor and it's been incredibly useful. I do have fluid in the tires. Im not sure which fluid though. I usually keep the mower or box blade on for added weight. Our winter and spring last year was super wet so I was a little sensitive to that when I first got the tractor. Been dry since then and the r4s have been just fine.

I made a mistake when I first bought my New Holland Boomer and I didn't fill the tires and we had a very wet spring needless to say I went back to the dealership to load those tires and wow it made a difference in how it lifted and drove in mud and loose gravel. Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Mine has been 100% trouble free in over 150 hrs so far. I did have one hydraulic line leak at one of the couplings. I tightened it 1/4 turn and it stopped. I figure that's bound to happen and can't pin that on the tractor make. Sounds like you might have had lousy setup and prep from the dealer if you had multiple hyd leaks. Most of that stuff (especially if its loader lines you're referring to) are set up from dealer and not at the factory.

    Hi. Thanks for the review. Is the loader just inherently underpowered or do you think it is that strength because it is a good match for the weight and stability of the tractor? For example with my wee Ls tractor I feel the loader is more than a match for the stability and weight of the tractor so have to be quite careful and on level ground if I am using it at full height at full capacity. Do you find this or is your machine the inverse; the tractor is more thana match for the loader?

  • @charliejonesrebandt4160
    @charliejonesrebandt4160 Před 3 lety +1

    Maybe your loader works different, but you missed my biggest complaint. I have the Kubota L4701. The lifting capacity of that model isn't much better. Weak compared to other similar HP tractors. My 42 HP New Holland that I sold before I bought this one would lift over 1700 pounds. My biggest complaint is with the way the loader works. Every loader I have ever driven will lift and curl the bucket at the same time. When the bucket is completely curled it will lift even faster. Even the Kubota manual suggests when loading dirt from a pile, to curl the bucket and lift it at the same time, once you go into the dirt. This will help fill the loader bucket. On this tractor once the curl is complete the tractor will stall if you don't have the RPMs high enough. If you do have the tractor running really fast, which my dealer recommended, the tractor will not stall but the bucket will freeze in place and will not move. Even if the bucket is empty it will do this. Right as the bucket finishes curling you have to immediately let off on the curl to get it to move. If you go to far to the right it will start dumping so the easiest is to just return to neutral and then start lifting. This is incredibly annoying. The dealer looked at the tractor and said it is working as designed. There is no relief valve on the loader functions so if you deadend the cylinder the pressure has no where to go and it will stall if not running fast enough, or lock up if it is running at high RPMs. Are any others having this issue?

    • @WoodsTreeFarm
      @WoodsTreeFarm  Před 3 lety

      I haven't experienced what you describe with the stalling. I always run it at higher RPMs though. You have to with all the newer tractors. The 525 loader on the Lseries will curl and lift at the same time, I don't know if that's the same with the larger loader on the 4701.

    Nice video. Kind of funny in one of your videos you said you could have got by with a L2501 which I have and it does the job for me. But in your complaints you need to go to a bigger tractor period. That is the only way you will get more lift capacity is going up another level. And it will have more room in the cock pit as well. Kubota is a fine tractor no matter which one buys, but one needs to look at them closely and weigh the things they need. BTW the tires are not the problem in the mud. Sometimes one needs to make other adjustments utilize the 4 WD and lock the rear axle. BTW getting a grapple for your tractor you will need to find one made with less weight. I suggest Everything Attachments 55 inch Wicked Root Grapple at 240 pounds if you are concerned about lifting capacity. Many are over 400 pounds in weight that size. I do know this is your first tractor and you really use it and once one gets a tractor they find they want to do even more with it once they start using it. Enjoy, I do like your videos they are done well with your honest opinion.

When I filmed the this complaints video that was only after a couple months of use and in the first few months I did a lot of dirt work (widening and lengthening the driveway, and creating a parking area and other things) and and to move a lot of heavy material. It felt undersized and underpowered for those tasks. When I filmed the one year update video I realized that for my day-to-day tasks I could have gotten away with less tractor. In hindsight, I could have rented equipment or paid someone to do the couple dirt work projects and gotten the 2501 instead. Still haven't decided on a grapple, but I do have a few videos of me using the Land Pride grapple I borrowed. Got a lot done with it! THanks for watching.

    • @mikelandrich
      @mikelandrich Před 4 lety

    • @MiserableOldFart
      @MiserableOldFart Před 4 lety

      @@mikelandrich Absolutely. This is a much bigger tractor than my TC26DA, and again, 100 pounds more lift capacity to full height, which admittedly is likely quite a bit higher than my machine, but that height means nothing to me. The L3901 is also 1000 pounds heavier than the TC26DA. The extra HP and extra weight should correspond to at least 300 pounds stronger loader. Compared to equivalent NH or even RK tractors, that loader is wimpy. NH boomer 40 is a more expensive tractor, and about 300 pounds heavier than the Kubota L3901, but has 500 pounds more lift to full height at 500mm from pivot. That's a huge difference. The workmaster in the same size has a little less, I think, but still much more than L3901. I love my NH, but I tend to be leery of the Korean made New Hollands now, but heck, if I die with the TC26DA, that's ok too, though I'd sure like a little more oomph and more loader capacity in my old age.. The horsepower of roughly 30 vs. 20 at the PTO is good for the snow blower and chipper/shredder. RK37 doesn't list lift at 500mm, but its lift to full height at pin is 700 pounds more than L3901. That's a huge difference when you're trying to move a rock from point a to point b, or moving gravel around, or moving a pallet of firewood.

    Interesting video. I noticed that you have the LA525, was the LA805 an option when you purchased it? I have the Kubota Grand L3560 and I have the LA805 which gives you around 1,700lbs of lift verses 1,100lbs of lift. The Grand series gives you a lot of extra room (but comes at a increase cost) with a swivel seat that when I'm looking backwards I can turn my seat to which ever side I'm looking. Plus since it has the cab, the lights on top of the cab work much better than the headlights that are block by the bucket. You could add lights to the inside of you ROPS.
    As far as the maintenance, I'm glad to see someone else ran into the same issues that I did. I did some checking around and the standard practice is to lift the loader up, clean filter, check oil, radiator fluid, and anything else you need to check and then close it back up and lower the loader down. Don't like the idea of working under the loader and one of the farms showed me a support he made for his to go under the arm to support it if it would come down. As someone with a lot of experience around tractors all tractors have their little niches or complaints you just have to work around them as far as the mud I've had mine rim deep with the same tires not an issue

    I wanted a Kubota L4760 cab tractor until I sat in the seat and ran it a few minutes, found some things I really didn't like about it. Then to help make the decision, they gave me the ridiculous price.

    • @WoodsTreeFarm
      @WoodsTreeFarm  Před 5 lety

      haha! I never got the price. I knew the L3901 was at the top of my budget. Plus, I knew I'd be working around a lot of trees on a regular basic. I would have broken the windows in the cab tractor at least 3 times by now.

      @@WoodsTreeFarm - Just talking about Kubota price compared to other manufactures. I wanted a 45-50 hp cab 4x4, HST, 4-in-1 loader, backhoe and rear remotes. Kubota wanted $3200 for 3rd function with 4-in-1 bucket and extra for rear remotes. I purchased another tractor with same options I priced on the Kubota, it was $17,700 cheaper than Kubota. And they let me keep the material bucket that was on the loader, after they installed the 4-in-1 bucket.

    I suppose some people just Have to complain about "something"... I too have a 3301 and I love it!! If I'd wanted more lifting power I would have bought a bigger tractor.

    Hi Phil! On the whole, I love my L3901 but I agree with your complaints. I haven’t had many times where the FEL couldn’t lift what I needed but there have been a few. Also, it took me a while to learn to get of the tractor without bumping the forward/reverse pedal.

    This video confuses me,I have no idea but would imagine this tractor isn't cheap. I'm just curious as to why you didn't try before you brought? Surely if you had given the tractor a good test before buying a lot of these faults would have showed up and you could have looked elsewhere for a model or brand that better fits your needs.

      @@ozarksfarmerhansen8782 Good point and maybe he will answer, but just playing devil's advocate he might have tested it out and decided to buy in spite of these issues, but would still like to point them out. Or, as I often do, don't think it will be a big deal until it happens for thousandth time. I appreciate your comment, because I am in the market to buy one shortly and will definitely be sure to test it out first.

    • @WoodsTreeFarm
      @WoodsTreeFarm  Před 5 lety +2

      Probably a combination of not knowing what questions to ask or exactly what to test because I didn't really know what my needs were at the time of purchase. Everything in this channel is new to me (the land, the business, tractors, and everything that goes along with those things). I didn't plan on doing some of the work I've done before I bought the tractor. Check out my Kubota playlist. I'm really proud, for example, of the road I built by completely regrading a section. Would a dozer or bigger tractor been better for the job? Sure. But it did the job, just took longer.

    I have an LS xr3135 and its bucket lift is around 2400 pounds ,does not that silly tredle peddle ,it has 2 pedels side by side one forward and one reverse and 2 brake pedals on the other side so you can do brake assist turns. very good design.love my tractor,tilt and cruise air ride seat draft control extendable links on 3 point work lights on back 7 way trailer plug 2 sets of hydralics and many more features .they are all made by same people in korea you are just paying for name.

      LOL .... until you have a warranty issue. Kubota will fix the machine, while it will sit at a LS dealer for 4 months!

  • @Ramdodge582
    @Ramdodge582 Před 4 lety +1

    WRT to the screen and loader arms. you are already starting the motor to move the loader arms around so you can grease all of it so no big deal.

  • @CW1116
    @CW1116 Před 4 lety +1

    I have 250 hours on my L3901 & am having a hard agreeing with even half of your "complaints". How many times have you accidentally rammed your knee into the flasher switch? I did that once or twice but now I easily move my knee to the right before I turn around to look and have not done that accident in 4 years. Come on! 2.) I live in clay country and my 1st tractor had ag tires. Ag tires are narrow and get stuck a lot. I finally got my industrial tires stuck last week (1st time in 5 years) because my Kubota went into a 3' deep hole in the 5' tall weeds! Both right tires were in the elongated hole and the two left tires were in air. 3.) I agree about the forward/reverse set-up but not for the reason you mention. I have tiny size 9 1/2 boots though. My 2 garden tractors are John Deere and have side-by-side pedals for direction. I like that a LITTLE better. 4.) The pre-filter and oil dipstick are problems for you? Wow. I use my Leatherman to grab the dipstick and I already have the loader up because I always put either the bucket or forks pointed down when I go to shut the tractor off the night before. That way the loader arms are out of the way for the next day's pre-checks. Come on..... get a routine and think ahead. 6.) Lift capacity not enough for you? I sounds like you can lift just about anything except a bucket-full of clay soil. I had 20 yards of 1 1/4" river rock dumped in my driveway and had to bucket all of it 100 yards down a 10% embankment to cover a mucky clay area of my access road. I hooked up my ballast bucket on the rear 3-point and carried full load after full load until all 20 yds were moved. Try setting up you tractor correctly rather than blaming Kubota for a non-existent problem. J.D, New Holland and others have nearly identical capacities. Mihindra has more but it has other problems worse than the big 3. GET A BIGGER TRACTOR. I know, I know... some folks just like to have something to gripe about so they'll have something for their CZcams video. It does get tiring when I get suckered into a video like yours thinking there might really be a problem that I just haven't run into yet but, No, it's just a CZcams nubile trying to get followers.
