Why Did I Choose The KUBOTA L3901 As My First Tractor For Our Homestead?

  • For our first tractor, we ended up choosing the KUBOTA L3901. After putting about 72 hours on this machine, I am convinced that we made a good decision for our property. Our main concerns were reliability, and being able to tackle tasks such as light dirt work, bush hogging, and a variety of other tasks on our 17-acre property. Do you think we made the right choice?

Nice choice, Bota owner here as well, L3560 with several implaments. RCR 1860, WC 1503: handles small branches up to 3" anything bigger goes in the wood stove. RB 1684 for snow plowing, RTA 1274 used for food plots....love it. GS 1560 land plane, choose the land plane because i dont move large volume of material, just maintain gravel drive way. You guys will love that 3901, great PTO horsepower for that tractor size.

Thanks for the video. I’m currently in my exhaustive research phase myself. Started off looking at a BX23S because I didn’t want to spend too much but eventually realized that we needed much more tractor for the tasks we have planned. We are going to close on the final lot next door to complete our 20 acres on Friday. We also are going to be the only people on our private road that would have the ability to care for our private road, which desperately needs attention. We also need a backhoe because we need to be able to maintain the drainage ditch that runs parallel to the road. Our entire neighborhood is a hill. All the lots we bought have been abandoned/neglected for about a decade and need clearing of brush and falling apart mobile homes. Wish I could afford to even go up to the 4802 but it’s feel like we will be alright with the 3902. The reason that I’m going to go for the 02 series and not the 01 is because I don’t like the setup with the clutch. My wife is comfortable driving our cub cadet and the 02 series is set up very similarly with the electric PTO and the left hand brakes.

That's a nice tractor. I'm thinking of getting a Kubota to replace my old Farmtrac that I've had forever. But I need something pretty heavy duty.

    Great tractor!

Just FYI. I have a manual L3901. I hardly ever use the breaks or clutch. Tractor pretty much stays in 2nd gear/4wd. I use clutch for FWD/RVS and stopping. The only time I ever use breaks is for parking on step hills.

I wouldn't recommend a backhoe on a tractor I would highly stear away from that but that's my opinion good luck wise choice on the Kubota

Good to know. Why do you think a backhoe is a bad idea for a tractor if you dont mind me asking? I dont have plans to buy one but I’m digging a ditch today boy hand and the thought did cross my mind lol.

I think they put to much stress in the frame even with sub frame the come with i just don't think most tractor are
Can handle the years of abuse they add by having them on I would rather have a actual backhoe then a tractor added one a good option in my opinion would be a towable backhoe but then my opinion thinks for the respectful response
