Master Gardener from Georgia - excellent presentation on the use of different products that one can used in their gardens to control unwanted pests. This was a very informative discussion that even an experienced gardener may not have been aware of. This is extremely important for new gardeners. Thanks for using your Master Gardener skills to inform the public.
Hi Janey, I really appreciate experts such as Sam who can explain to novice gardeners in a logical manner so that this information can be retained. I’m definitely going to re-watch this video when my gardening season approaches in May ! Thank you Sam! ( I have been applying my slug baits incorrectly all these years! ) 🌸❤️🇨🇦
Thank you Janey and Jason for visiting Van Windens. This has been a treasure of information. Sam knows her job..Janey you are making the very best use of your situation. So sorry for you injury ,hoping you can get back into your garden soon.
Wow, Sam is impressive! What a wealth of knowledge she has. She’s able to explain a very complicated subject for those of us less experienced. Thank you, Janey.
Sam was impressive with her horticultural terminology and product knowledge! Great job Janie on use of guest speakers while you are on the injured list👍🏻👍🏻. Be forewarned 2024 pests😱 - I have new ways to neutralize unwanted bad bugs😅 Thank you both for the excellent video❣️❣️
Janey, this was a very impressive and exciting video. Sam gave us so much great information. I loved her voice and she does need her own channel. She explains stuff that everyone and understands. Thank you Janey, Jason and Sam for this great video.❤❤❤
What a great garden center, with such knowledgeable employees. Great interview with great info!!! So interesting!!! Thank you, Janey, Jason, and Sam too!!
Janie, I really love your channel. I live in Las Vegas and my zone 8b garden has many of the same challenges that you do. I am also a medical professional and can see that you have carried you past profession into your new profession regarding your type A, evidenced based gardening channel. I am so impressed with your commitment to truly teaching you subscribers the WHYS of gardening to really learn about how to have a flourishing garden. Keep up the great channel 😊, and be a good patient so that you heal well. Medical professionals are the worst at following the recommended treatment plan, lol. Thank you for your inspiration and knowledge. Have a blessed day
No one has EVER explained these products like this! Thank you Sam! Sam you need your own You Tube and be a speaker at Master Gardeners programs.👌🏻💚 Janey, you are always on your game! Great questions. Thank you so much for this. A tour of Sam's house plants? I bet you already thought of it!👩🏻🌾💚 Thank you Van Windens~
I am so glad you are coming to Va Windens! I live in Napa and do most of my plant shopping there. It has been so fun watching your videos. Please, I talk to them about carrying Proven Winners plants. They are so difficult for us to find here and buying online gets expensive. I hope you are feeling better and not in too much pain. I am so grateful for your channel and have learned so much from you. Would you consider doing a meet-up?
Dear Janey, Hello from a totally different climate - the North East of England. However, as revamping my garden, I am interested how you do it. Thank you for this very informative video. And .... you have cracked it! The audio is brilliant this time, as Sam can be understood clearly, your voice and laughter is not overpowering, as in previous videos. Many thanks 🙂
Great information and presentation! It is alot of information for a home gardener to retain so I will be referencing back to this video. Thank you Janey and Jason!
WOW! A true primer on the basics of pest control in our gardens. This is a video to bookmark for sure. Looking fwd to the next installment in this series!
Wow, this is so informative, Janey. It is so helpful!! I will be referring to this video many times! I hope some of the Monterey products are available on the East Coast! The nursery is extremely lucky to have employees who have such a thorough background in horticulture!
a most excellent video ... I think we all learned something new !! thanks to Sam for sharing her knowledge with us and thanks to you, Janey, for getting this info to us all.
Great video! You have not skipped a beat with your foot surgery. I’m so impressed. I learned so much from Sam. My own local nursery encourages no interaction with their customers except to take my payment. I have so many questions and they seem too busy to bother. They could learn a lot from the all the great nurseries you’ve taken us to virtually. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you, this video was so incredibly helpful! I would love to learn more about the dormant oils and using beneficial insects as predators to garden pests.
Janey, great video! I want to put Van Windens on my list! I just went to High Hand Nursery after seeing it on one of your videos and WOW!! Absolutely a must and such a relaxing way to spend the day! Loved everything about it, thank you for sharing these some what "local "places( 2 hrs from me). For me its worth the drive time because they are beautiful relaxing places to spend a day.
I just love our field trips, Janey! You interview the most fascinating people and ask the best questions. So much knowledge!!! I feel like I should be taking notes. Insead, I'll just save this video in my gardening folder, along with many of your others. Thanks for another terrific video. 🙂
I learn so much from your informative videos, you explain things in a easy to follow form ... we had lots of rain and (snow) up here in Shasta County last winter and into spring that I was overwhelmed with snails on mostly flowers and cucumbers, the info on sluggo was very helpful, thx so much.
Great video! Pleeeeaaase do go back and have a conversation about dormant oils because I have a mini orchard now and think I should be using those, but I have no idea what they are exactly. I will definitely be purchasing the fungicide/bactericide because that’s my biggest issue: black spot on roses, powdery mildew, and I think my cherry tree has a fungal disease. For the insects, I’m trying to let the beneficials take care of those. It was a little nerve wracking at times, but they got the job done!
Great video, very informative and reminds us all we must live with Nature and share the earth and our space. Sam really knows her pests and is a great teacher.
This was an incredibly informative video and one I'll be replaying a number of times. Sam is a wealth of information and able to explain clearly. I'm hopeful you'll have Sam back as a regular guest.
What an awesome presentation and video on products for pest management. The bright down of how the ingredients work, what they work on just fantastic!!❤❤
This is the best information on pest control that I have seen. Thank you for this video and I have to commend Sam for her expertise and of course Janey for a very good interview and presentation.
This video is so informative and Sam is so knowledgeable!! I thought I knew quite a bit about organic insecticides but it turns out I had barely scratched the surface.
Your looking so good. Making lemonade with the lemons thrown your way! Thanks for all you share. I love your channel. I live in Nova Scotia, garden zone 5b. I received my DPWR hat i ordered today! I love it. Get well soon! 😊
Coffee is the unsung hero of managing slugs & snails. Coffee grounds work as a physical deterrent & caffeine is toxic to slugs so you can spray a coffee solution to kill slugs as well. Oregon State University published an article earlier this year about it.
This was a great idea for a video. I'm pretty sure I'll be watching this instead of asking the garden center help around here, I don't see them being knowledgeable on this stuff. I would love to ask Sam what she knows about milky spore for Japanese beetles, basically if it's not go for pets to be walking on it. Next yr I'm investing in some assassin bugs, hoping they help keep me sane for 2 - 3 months.
Squirrels LOVE Sluggo Plus. They jumped in my containers and ate it all. They even chewed open and ate the container when I left the bottle out overnight !!
This video cleared up many questions I´ve had about the products and especially how they work. Thank you for this valuable info. At some point would you address one of my first lines of defense - insecticidal soap.
Very interesting!! Paused the video to order the Monterey Complete Disease Control. I have a TERRIBLE problem with powdery mildew. 😫 Great info, thanks!
I am a Microbiologist...all of this knowledge and fine details has got me hyped. Sam's knowledge is A1. Awesome video...I have learned alot! #gardennerdtoo
My understanding is that clarified neem oil (without azadirachtin) is effective on insects with sucking mouthparts only. Cold-pressed neem oil still has the azadirachtin and is effective both on insects with chewing mouth parts and insects with sucking mouthparts.
I would love to hear about how to fix your soil after contamination… specifically, I used horse manure on my garden and then found out the hay the horses ate was sprayed with chemicals… it ruined 1/2 my plants and I don’t know how to fix it for next year 😢
Sam is so knowledgeable, Janey can you do a video focusing on pest control for house plants ????. I'm plaqued with them for 2 years now, I've tried so many things and ready to give up, nothing works. Their a tiny tiny black flying bug, that lives in the soil. I've changed the soil, washed the plant and roots, used all kinds of sprays and traps. But being as their flying around the house its impossible to eradicate them
Sam needs her own channel. Very knowledgeable and excellent communicator.

Oh good! I’m also in Georgia and I was wondering how universal this information was, even though they mentioned climates a few times!
I love Sam. They're very informative :) [PSA: To all those using she/her, Sam has a they/them pin on their sweater so please use they/them].
Thank you Janey and Jason for visiting Van Windens. This has been a treasure of information. Sam knows her job..Janey you are making the very best use of your situation. So sorry for you injury ,hoping you can get back into your garden soon.

Sam could be a College Professor! Thanks Janey for going out, even though your foot is broken, to teach us all kinds of information about our gardens.
Janey, you may not be working in your garden now, but we keep learning so much from your shows !
Thank you!
