Thanks again for the great tips. Sure wished I had seen your video before tackling my dust collection some years ago. The sawhorse lift technique was the best. Again if I saw this video before it would kept me from using explicit words. Thanks again for a great video.

Glad you found it helpful! The sawhorse technique was far sketchier than I would have like but it worked in the end. Always trying to figure out better ways to do things in a one man shop. I should have a follow up video for this coming out soon but the highlight is it works far better than before.

Please do a follow up video showing the results before and after to demonstrate if it actually worked better and then link it to this video please. I have a similar situation and if it does work better, then I will spend the time and more for an improvement. Thank you very much. Good video!

Please do an update. I have a feeling the gap created by the motor end of the gulp is going interrupt the air flow in what was essentially an enclosed box before hand. Did you find this an issue or is there no gap due to the funnel on the shoot? This has been an ongoing issue for woodworkers especially when all you have is a contractor saw. I've had a contractor saw and will upgrade to a cabinet saw in a day or two. I have the Dewalt DW745 model. It's an older model that had a box type of surround under the table which made dust collection easier that the newer models today. All they are are tube frames with a few pieces of sheet metal holding it all together. I don't know what the manufactures are thinking. They should use a full sheet medal surround and eliminate the plastic as we know is often just landfills. At least the metal can be recycled. It also gives the operator a better chance of collecting more sawdust. My brother is a home contractor and always uses dust collection at the job site and in the home of a customer. The added space and setup time is worth it to him and the customers certainly appreciate it as well. We all know what a contractor saw does when not enclosed and no dust collection. It can make a real mess in the home of a customer and even though one cleans before leaving the site, all of the fine dust that has been circulating in the air settles long after you have left leaving a fine layer all over everything. He goes the extra mile and uses the temporary plastic walls you can set up from floor to ceiling around the miter saw and tablesaw, but that fine dust always finds a way out. Great advice about sticking to one size pipe through out the DC run. It has not been discussed enough, because people do not understand about air flow enough before setting up a system. Thanks man!

Thanks for your thoughtful comment! I am planning a follow up on the performance but short version is I haven’t seen any major issues. The sawdust does pile up on the flat a little but in the whole seems to clear better. I agree though, it seems like you need to go to a higher end saw for the engineers to have considered good DC.

Hmm... Getting a 4" to 2" Y Splitter and running a second hose to the end/corner where the sawdust builds up would work better too.. You would still have 4" of flow and not have the pressure drop. Basically the same you would do with a router table, one in the router box, and one on the Router Fence... In case it does not work out like you hoped.. You could leave what you have, block off half of the 4" with a home made adapter and route it to a rectangular pickup with he same surface area on the panel you pulled off, if that does not do what you wanted it to do.. Cheers!!

I bought that same dust funnel for my 1990's Craftsman table saw, I've yet to install it but I'm hoping it works well, I use a dedicated portable DC with about a 3 foot run. Thanx for the video, I hope you post a follow up on the performance.

It works great for me. Funnel is a little smaller than I need but for a premade funnel, it’s awesome!
When you’re able to get a more permanent setup together, it makes a huge difference.
Regarding a follow up, I won’t likely do a full video on it but I’ve done a large project since then and it’s emptying beautifully! Builds up on the sides where it was flat but not so much that causes any issues.
