OKAY so for this week, my brain decided: You know what? We're going to make something overly complicated. And so here we are! Something I've been toying with for a while is how to maximize the use of the clothing that I make myself, and so I thought making a dress that can transform into a different dress would be a fun avenue to explore. ANYWHO my hand still hurts from how many snap fasteners I did, so uhhh enjoy lol.

My mom badgered me until I wrote a comment: snap tape exists, it has snaps on it, you just sew it on. You don't have to hurt your hands, you can have snaps by just sewing. They also make hook and eye tape.
Mom loves you and wants you to succeed and feels bad for your hands.

My grandma used to do this to her own dresses in the 50's: she could change the sleeves, the hem, add details, change the collar... She didn't have a lot of money so with only one basic dress she could make believe she had many different ones!

Add a robin's egg blue sash to the dress when it's all together and it would be like a cottage core version of Anastasia's once upon a December dress😍. I also think you should make that blue dress that Dimitri got her that she wears on the boat when she's learning to dance! I've always loved that look and I think it would suit your style.
I feel like you could wear just this dress all summer: all of it, sleeveless, just the yellow parts, crop top and short skirt/full length skirt, either skirt version with a different top, crop top or longer top or top w/sleeves with a different skirt or trousers! That's like 13 (?) different outfits with just this dress + 1 top + 1 skirt + 1 pair of trousers. Tiniest capsule wardrobe ever.
You could totally do more sleeves and ruffles to mix it up even more.

Rachel, if you ever want to do one of these transforming outfits again: try snap tape! The snaps are already applied in even spaces and it'll be so much easier than having to hand apply each one. Just food for thought!

Snaps are one of my least liked parts of sewing. When she brought it up early on, I thought: I hope she means she ordered snap tape 😂
Snap tape input here too! I do burlesque and it's soooo much easier. I've made a few pairs of tear away pants with them.

Back in the '50's, there were shows like "What's my line?," " I've got at Secret" and "To Tell The Truth." On one of those game shows don't recall which one) there was someone who had made an "outfit" that she changed, by tear-aways, into about 25 different outfits. Maybe it was 21 or 27...I don't remember exactly. It was amazing! You'd love it...I'm pretty sure. Seems like she made it for the talent part of a pageant, or something.

Guess you haven't yet heard of snap tape? You often find it in the legs of baby clothes so you have easy access for changing diapers. It's two pieces of twill tape, one side having the male snap half and the other side has the female snap half. You sew it in using the zipper foot. It does make putting lots of snaps in a garment a little easier and less achy hands . Probably would have worked well around the ruffle.

Rachel, I turned 30 last September and felt the shift from “I-am-excited-to-finally-be-in-my-30s-and-be-settled” to “Holy smokes, now I’m 30. Permanently.” Then I remembered we were 29 together, so if when you turned 30 it would be cool because you’re cool and I felt 100% better. 😂
This is such an amazing "spring to summer" transformation outfit. Also, proof positive that fabric on floor = furry friend love by the tonne.

I feel like this dress is perfect for a nice dinner followed by a walk on a beach! If you’re just stowing the ruffle in the car so it doesn’t get covered in sand (coarse, rough, gets everywhere) it’s pretty darn practical! Happy birthday!

The fact that you could litteraly have different sets of sleeves and ruffle to make endless possibilities is absolute genius
Having recently done an 18m (60ft) rolled hem on a tiered petticoat thing, I sympathise heavily with "sixty-four years".
The fabric choice turned out so well - the contrast totally totally worked, and it would not have been as good with a yellow ruffle. Loved it!

I think what's really practical about this is that you can take the sleeves and ruffle off when you're matching either piece with another bottom/top that would clash with the pattern.
She could also make multiple ruffles/sleeves/dresses so she can mix and match all the pieces

In German its Kaulquappe and I had to google where that comes from. So apparently kaul means hole/trench and quappe or quabbe is a slimy wobbly thing, can be alive or just a weird blob.

This dress with all the additions attached feels very "summer derby" to me, I love it :D On a broader note, I have loved all of your "self-indulgent" projects!! I was a bit worried a few months ago when you seemed very downtrodden about your projects and making things "for the masses" but you seem to have sprung back and I'm glad! Don't ever feel guilty about doing projects for yourself or to enjoy them, that's half the reason you've got almost 1M subscribers! Oh these look amazing! I hadn’t expected to like the long-skirt version as much as I do. I’m not usually one for ruffles at the bottom of the skirt but making them a different colour gave it such a lovely added summery feel to the skirt. Also, looooove the drape-y sleeves.

My one experience with tearaway pants happened when I was a lowly freshman in high school and one of the seniors decided he needed to dash into my English class, hop up on a desk, and tear his pants off and twirl them over his head. I think he was wearing either shorts or boxers underneath, so it wasn't too traumatizing, but he was definitely single-handedly responsible for getting tearaway pants banned in the next year's dress code.
lol, that's hilarious. My only high school experiences with tearaway pants were the sports team kids tearing away the below-knee portion of their pants as the day warmed up.
