Vitamin D, Caffeine, workouts, and clothes so that you can be outside whatever weather is out there during the few hours of light during the day (take a walk during lunch break for example). And if the darkness really affect you bad get a daylight lamp for light therapy that you can use during the darkest months. But yes sometimes the weather here are really grey, dark and rainy here during the winter months. Spring is on the way so we are already getting more light day by day now.

Swedish will come by itself just by living here, listening to swedish music, watching swedish things. Thats the way we learn english even before school. Music is a really good way to learn a language, besides, in sweden you can survive on english, now i know you want to learn swedish and it will come. The problem is with å,ä,ö but maybe you will learn in very fast. I,m keeping my fingers crossed kim!

Best tip I can think of is vitamin D, waking up early so you don't miss the sunlight and as another guy suggested, the light bulbs that has similar hue as the sun. Also if you plan on going on vacation abroad, do it at this time of the year rather than in the summer.
I personally enjoy the winter when it's actually winter but here in Skåne, as you know by now, it mostly rains :(.

Great to see you Kim, winter is rough out there. Try to get sunlight or daylight into your eyes in the first half hour of waking up. It will help in regulating your circadian rhythm and other vital functions of the body and help in navigating the rough winters.

Swedish Pro-Tips to edure the winters!
The dark winter is a perfect oportunity to develop your indoor social scene. Have a Christmas party, Have a New-Years party,
Invite friends to dinner parties. Swedes are very used to socialize at home and do not have high requirements on the venue.
We are very happy to be invited to a potluck in a small apartment. The tighter the merrier. Join a social club and go to concerts
or performing arts. You also need to make a budget for an annual winter trip to a warm place. Go away just for a week to get
some sun and warmth. Thailand and Dubai are common winter destinations for Swedes, but there are also many other places.
Only a week in the sun will break up the winter in two semesters so to speak, and it makes more difference than you can imagine.
Yes, such a trip is quite costly. But if you put aside a yearly savings plan for this, and travel off season it's easier. Prices during
Christmas and Swedish schools winter break are very high. But if you can travel some random week in January/February it's
about half the price. In our family we have switched the summer budget to the winter season. We make the long expensive trip
in the winter, and stay home in sunny Sweden durig the summer holiday. That way we maximize our sun-hours throughout the year.
    PEACE!

I've enjoyed your videos. Watching them were part of my preparations for my first week of working in Sweden.
After 10 days these are my observations:
    1) the daylight in Karlstad was about 90 minutes shorter than the amount of daylight I had back home for this last week.
    2) It wasn't as cold or snowy as I expected. Back home in the Upper Peninsula in the states the temp was around -27 C and it pretty much stayed around 0 C in Karlstad and we had/have a lot more snow in the Upper Peninsula.
    3) The part of Sweden between Karlstad and Stockholm is so much like the Upper Peninsula I couldn't believe it. The people are so similar between the two places. The hills are a little bigger around Norway, Michigan (the town I come from in the Upper Peninsula) than in the part of Sweden I was in--but it is the same rocky landscape with similar forests.
    4) Everyone was so kind and friendly. I was expecting people to be standoffish, but I found people really enjoyed talking and I had many wonderful experiences.
    5) Sweden feels way more automated than the United States. It seemed that many of the places I went prioritized certain automations and technology.
    6) Driving in towns definitely took some adjustments. I just drive really slow. I love seeing all the bicyclists. However I was not as used to their interactions with traffic. While in the city streets, I found some really would just cut off the sidewalk and across the road right in front of my car without any indication what was going to happen and regardless of if there was a crosswalk there or not. This was likely complicated by the fact that I was not familiar with the streets and trying to figure out where I was going--so there was an additional level of distraction on my part--but that felt quite stressful. I definitely preferred not driving--but it was a 30 km drive to where I worked so I at least needed to drive that distance in the morning and evenings.
    7) Breakfast is amazing. I ate so much good food, and I was invited to houses for dinners and everything was so wonderful. I found that I was always full but not wanting anyone to think I wasn't enjoying their cooking--I loved all the sauces as well. Such a better way to eat food....Now that I'm back in the states for a few weeks, I am doing a three day fast just to process any extra food that I consumed while there....
    8) Public transportation and the shared pedestrian / bicyclist's sidewalks were fabulous.
    9) The concept of land ownership is pretty neat too--the idea that you can wander on anyone's land as long as you're not destroying a crop is such a liberating thought--I got to wander the forests a few times and that was really nice. We have huge amounts of State and National Forest in the Upper Peninsula that you can wander for hundreds of kilometers and for days--but inevitably you will come across tracks of privately owned land marked no trespassing that you have to go around. I like the Swedish style here.
    10) Gymnasium is a really cool educational concept and I wish the State's adopted something similar
    11) It seemed like everyone is beautiful and healthy in Sweden--I might have fallen a tiny bit in love with every girl I met..(just kidding but only slightly)

Plus, my wife is Swedish, so she and her family did a ton of cooking and baking (we had Julbord three times). That said, I did live in Finland before, and I do remember my first winter in Helsinki was pretty depressing! I remember actually worrying that I was going blind from the lack of light! You are becoming a true Nordic citizen- we always complain about the weather (even though in Norway we say “it’s not bad weather, just you using bad clothes”)
It might even be better further north… yes, it possibly is colder (but it’s quite cold in the rainy, windy Malmø too) however, it might be lighter because of the snow.
Many of my foreign neighbours (southern Europe) use light boxes in the winter - giving them more light and reducing the possible level of winter depression…
For Christmas spirit (next time), I have heard that there’s a nice Christmas market inside Tivoli in Copenhagen… or you can visit the market here in Trondheim or at Røros (Norway)…

The winters are brighter because of all the snow, it is not as windy, and it's a dry could, not a damp cold that gets into your bones. I grew up in Skelleftea and my mother would tell me that when she was young she moved to Malmo but ended up moving back north because she couldn't stand the gloomy winters and the raw coldness. Just saying. Malmo does not have the best weather in Sweden. Please, don't think that it's worse everywhere else.
