  • Hey Folks,
    Today we'll be looking at one of Slater Designs most popular recent models, the SCI FI 2.0. A great all round board choice for your 2-4 ft days. If you're stuck between choosing the bigger size or smaller size, take into account with epoxy, you add 0.5 (half) a litre to what you ride in PU.
    For Example (e.g) What I ride: 27-28 Litres, I would go the stock 5'7 at 27 Litres.
    Conditions: 2-6ft
    Fins Recommended:
    - FCS 2: Performers (Medium)
    - Futures: Am 1 Honeycomb (Medium)

    I think what you asked at the end of the video, that either "epoxy suits your or it doesn't", really determines if it's worth it or not. It definitely DOES suit me, and as a result, it's like getting 2 surfboards for $1,080. By that I mean it lasts AT LEAST twice as long as a PU for not twice the price. I friggin' love this board. I probably road it at least 400 times over the past two years and it barely has pressure dings. I will say that you better fully dry out your dings and fix them right away, or it'll turn ugly fast. This board in general just seems to start yellowing after a bunch of use, but it doesn't seem to affect performance.

      100% agree brother, there is definitely a split demographic that prefer PU over Epoxy or Epoxy over PU. They are most the time definitely more durable but obviously, depends on the shaper.

    Great review, thanks Jake! Do you think this would work well in a wave pool?

    • @jakesboardreviews
      @jakesboardreviews  Před 3 lety

      Hey Aaron, I think this board would work perfectly at the pools as the epoxy will keep that float above the water and get you more waves 👍

    Was this board easy to paddle into a wave? Also, if I got a 6'6 would that become overly clumsy to surf do you think? Cheers!

      This board was an awesome paddler. In regards to the 6'6, go the litreage you'd normally ride.

    Can this board hold rail on point break and carves ?

      It’s a great board for most waves, you can push it super hard on rail, and it holds. Great on the points as well

    Its only my impression or the Firewires become yellow ( Sun light) very quick??? The board looks like its 2 years old...

      Unfortunately that’s the problem with all Firewire and epoxy boards, they yellow much faster than a PU blank. However, they don’t lose their performance factor till they break.

    Nice. How do you compare it with the JS Ranging Bull ? Better padder ? better on rail ?...THANKS

      @jakesboardreviews  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey mate, I haven’t managed to ride the JS Raging Bull yet. However, I know the wave range is very similar with that 2-6ft. I’ll try get my hands on one for a future review 👍

      @@jakesboardreviews that would be great :) it is funny I am right now thinking which one I should get for the 5 to 6 foot range :) Sill the firewire 30L dimensions feel really well for me

      @@josesnowsneves5132 PU handles better in bigger surf, I would say the raging bull. If you like epoxy, go the FireWire SCI FI 2.0 stock 5’9 at 30 L.

      I haven’t weighed myself in a while. I would say I’m around 65-70 Kg and 5’11 in height.
