I love how you took this board out to different locations and showed how this board performs in different wave types
I'm really trying to surf all the boards in a variety of waves. I feel that helps to see what conditions the boards work best in.
After watching most of your reviews .... I think that you did some of your best surfing on this board. Great review. Thanks.
Thanks mate, yes this one was really fun and suited my surfing.
best style and performence among all the revies.
Great to see you again... Happy New Year. Great review as always. I agree with some of the comments below as well as your own about how good you looked surfing this board. It looked comfortable under foot for you like an ole shoe as they say... Look forward to future reviews.. Yeewwwww!!!
Cheers mate. I did really like this one as soon as stood up on the very first wave! Some boards I have to learn to ride, this one felt like one of mine straight up.
happy new year! was wondering where you went! thanks for the reviews!
Thanks mate! Stay tuned a bunch of new boards rolling out soon.
Best surfboard intel in oz. Good to see real man height and weight reviews. Keep up the good work. Legend 🌊
Thanks mate. That was the main reason I started Wooly TV.......I couldn't find a decent review from a 'larger' bloke! There are some great reviews for guys 5'6" - 5'8" but no one taller and heavier. Plus I think board reviews need to be in a variety of wave types.
Yewww!! 🏄🏽♂️
That dry Reef was really close. 🧐
Yeah its close but really flat so don't usually hurt yourself too bad if you land on it!
Cheers Wooly. Great work.
Thanks mate.
Great review. I live here in Fl and this board will work great here. Getting the 511 @ 33 liters. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻 yewwwwwww
Right on!
Yewwwww wooly is back 🤙🇦🇺😁
Good to finaly get that one up! Stay tuned as Im working on 7 boards and will try to keep them dropping constantly over the next few weeks/months.
Hey Wooly
Nice work again mate, what fins in FCS2 ya reckon (thruster set up)? Do you think the LFT goes better in WA conditions more than Helium?
Thanks mate for your work and info!!
Hi Trev,
Thanks!
I think it depends on the type of board too, not just the construction. I do like the LFT as its seems to perform more like a standard PU (well sort of) so you can surf it up into overhead surf.
I would just go a set of performers in the FCS range, I think they are such a good all round template. If you go the PCC (carbon) then you can ride one size down from your standard in the PC range.
Hope that helps
If you need boards or fins just hit up the guys in the shop and we can get them out to you ASAP.
Cheers

Ripping Wooly !!! , Great Review mate , board suits ya .
Found the same with the sci-fi 2 , one of the best Tomo / slater designs. Handles big surf really well .
Thanks Simo. Yeah I was really surprised how well the board went in overhead surf.
Sumo do u like the SF 2 better that Tomo OB1
I am one of those Grommies! Love this Board!!! Mine is 4'4 with 13.5 liters, Awesome Review!!
Yeeeeeeeewwwwww grom

Your mom said this bet
Nice one Wooly !
Thanks mate
Love it wooly !!!
Cheers mate
Bought an original 6' Sc Fi and set it up as a quad. Wasn't feeling the love after a few surfs and it sat in the garage for a year. I needed a second board for a camping trip so I took the Sc Fi. I set it up as a thruster and loved it. Found out it likes back foot surfing and you've got to have that back foot in the sweet spot. waves were 4-6 ft Oz.
Yeah that’s when I think it works best!
Hi john. What fins did you throw in for a thruster? Would kelly endorfins 5fin set work you think. I'm experiencing the same thing ...left it sitting there too. Want to go thruster but try quad from time to time? Surf Lennox Head NSW beacheis mostly sometime point
@@meganandjensspyker5102 Hi, I use a Performer model. I found 2 small and a medium worked but that was what I had lying around. A set of medium should go fine. I'm in South OZ and waves have been pretty crappy. I envy your location I love surfing Lennies.🤟
Hi Wooly and greetings from Portugal!
Thanks for your review! What is your opinion about the size and volume you picked?
I am 85-86kg, 6ft.
I am trying to decide between the 5'11" vs 6'0.
I have a 5'9 Cymatic feels good up to about head high or a little more..and 5'8" Omni (feels a bit too short)
I found the 5'11" to be ok in good waves, if i was going to use it in weaker or smaller waves then I might go up to the 6'0"???
@@WoolyTV I appreciate your feedback! Thx. Happy Barrels!
Hi Wooly, Trying to decide between scifi2.0 and hs holygrail for waist high to overhead beach break. Can you give some input? Which one is a better paddler and work good on the lower spectrum of wave range?
Thanks heaps. Love your reviews.
Hi mate, I think the Holy Grail worked better in the smaller stuff and the Sci-Fi was really good in overhead surf.
@@WoolyTV Thanks wooly for the reply.
Aloha Wooly. I've been looking for a step up and I was wondering which Firewire model would be the most suitable. Would you consider using the 6'4" or 6'6" as a step up?
Hi mate, In my opinion the FRK would probably be the best step up from FW.
Hey Wooly, loved the review. What your height and weight. I am 5’9 and weigh 85-95kg synthetic upper end at the moment. I had the original Sci-fi in 6.0 and loved it but traded up to a Cymatic 5.8 which I really like but it met an early demise. I’m gonna get one of these and now torn between 5.11 and 6.0. I found the original sci-fi very fast and went great in a variety of condition. I found the Cymatic was more responsive, easier to flick around but not as fast but I want a nose, you know I miss a nose mate.
Hi mate,
Im sitting at 87kg at the moment and rode the 5'11". If I was any heavier than I am then I would be defiantly look at the 6'0". IMHo the 2.0 is waaaaay better than the original Sci-Fi. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeewww
@@WoolyTV Thanks Wooly. I was thinking either 5'11 or 6'0. I may need to jump on the scales LOL.
Hey Wooly! Great Review - your reviews are always awesome and glad you are back! I am a nobody, so please feel free to ignore, and I am suggesting to ignore - haha! I think your surfing looks better on the Hydroshort. The speed of the Hydroshort seems to let you go in and out of the pocket with more opportunities to play on the wave. The Sci-Fi 2.0 looked great in bigger waves, but outside of those it seems liked you were never getting too far ahead of the pocket a bit owing to a lack of speed. It is interesting that you felt more comfortable on the Sci-Fi 2.0. It seemed like the Hydroshort speed you had more flow, and this one was a bit more erratic. Again you surf levels above me, and I am a nobody. Have you consider throwing quads on the Sci-Fi 2.0 to give it a bit more speed. I have 5' 8" Cymatic, which I believe has similarities to the Sci Fi 2.0. I learned that I am not good enough for the Cymatic. I can surf it, I love how it paddles, handles steep drops etc. At first I loved it because you can really control the board, but this is not good me as I am not flowing with the board as I can overly control it. I tend to jerk around because I can. My other boards tend keep me more in check and because of that I actually surf them better with better flow. It took me a little to recognize this. The Cymatic does excite me, but I am not ready for it. Cheers! Jamie
Hi Jamie
Always good to get feedback! Ok, the Sci-fi was more reliable than the Hydroshort. I could go fast on the Hydroshort but found it had some limitations when doing some turns. The main one was that I did find it catching a little up the front edge (beyond my front foot), where as the Sci-Fi didn't do that and allowed me to nail a variety of top turns in a variety of wave conditions. I believe the Sci-Fi suited my style of surfing better and I think it would cover a wider range of surfers. I did want to run a quad set up in the Sci-Fi but didnt for the review. I may do that down the track and add a clip to IG.
Thanks for the input
@@WoolyTV thanks good to know! any thoughts on why this happens? Assuming the rocker or the width or both? thanks again!
@@jamiemacmahan3417 Yeah its usually
1. Entry rocker
2. Rail shape
3. Plan shape
BUT other surfers wont experience the same as I do...... why? I have quiet a wide stance and Im tall so my front foot will be further forward than other surfers. Also you must always keep in mind that I usually surf the demo boards for approx 10 hours (try to have 5 x 2 hour surfs) and some boards are very different to what I normally ride. Give me 100 hours surfing them and I would adjust my style to suit the board and probably avoid a few things that I do in the first 10 hours of surfing. Make sense?
@@WoolyTV Hey wooly - yes makes perfect sense and common sense - thanks! You bring up a great point - adapting/learning the board characteristics versus moving onto the next board? It is a loaded question - how long should one try to make a board work versus moving (no answer needed)? It is probably experienced based, where your 10hrs is significant and the right amount.I have been all over the spectrum with trying boards. And of course -there is the grass is greener syndrome - haha! I have read online about working with a shaper on one board until magic happens. Others suggesting trial and error a range of boards and shapers. I think you recognize quickly how well the board paddles. I think determining how well it catches waves is relatively easy - though can be nuanced at time. The harder one is performance as this needs a range of waves. I have done the 1 step forward, 2 steps back with surfing and boards. My favorite board has been 5' 6" twinfin Album Plasmic because of how it generates speed, the size, where my feet land, etc. It does this cool thing when you catch a wave but your are in the whitewater, it accelerates in the whitewater and gets a head of it (so cool), and gets me back in the pocket. In the pocket, the Plasmic doesn't feel uber fast in the pocket like the Hydroshort. Though the Plasmic doesn't paddle as well as some of my other boards, it catches waves very well and handles various entries in the break well. It is the board I grab for most beach breaks. Interestingly, my second favorite has been 6' 10" single fin egg. Even though it doesn't have the performance nor paddle as well as my 6'8" SS&B or even the Hydroshort, I love surfing the single fin, especially in steep, barreling breaks, and I would have thought this is the board to grab for those conditions - haha! The Hydroshort is an interesting board, it is probably the board that let's me do everything I want and can handle most conditions, but it just doesn't excite, even though I surf it well - haha - go figure! I have learned most surfboards are really fun if they enough volume. Thanks again!
@@jamiemacmahan3417 I tell you one thing....... I’m still learning about boards and technique every day AND even at the ripe old age of 47 🤙
If you had to choose between the Sci Fi 2.0 and Shadow for chest + decent/good waves, which one would you choose? Also, was there a noticeable difference in paddle power?
Hi mate. If you like the feel of Tomos boards and like the EPS construction go the SciFi but if you prefer standard PU feel then the Shadow. I like both those board but they are very different boards. 🤙
Love the reviews!! Camera is a little shakey...
Ha ha yeah one surf young Dylan forgot his tripod
Would you ride this same as your short board volume wise. Or ride a litre down because of the epoxy tech . Cheers
Hi mate. I usually just ride the same volume.
@@WoolyTV thanks for the quick reply appreciate it
@@WoolyTV right on bro.. Same volume that other take is off.. Same volume works perfect
Hey, what’s your thoughts El Tomo vs the Sci Fi 2.0? Sounds like you liked both?
Also the hydroshort….I’ve got the el Tomo and the hydroshort, thinking about the sci fi 2.0…
@@mjstatic77 Hi mate, out of those 3 I think I preferred the Sci-Fi. I worked well in a good ranges of wave types and sizes and was more predictable than the other 2 🤙
Ahh yes 10yrs later we get new vid!!!!!!
Yeah it did feel like 10 years!
Hi wooly, for Ders, would u recommend the sci-fi 2.0 or dominator 2 ? Cheers mate
Dominator 2 for sure mate.
@@WoolyTV FRK+ could be also an option, considering I have a Revo for the small days? Cheers!
You think this would be good driver for the 4' - 7' range on top of a seaside? And do you like this better than the glazer? Churr
Or any other recommendations for that range?
@@tristan8726 hi mate, I liked the Sci Fi in slightly bigger surf and I did like it better than the Glazer 🤙
How is it as a quad with the tomo fins ?
I never rode it with those fins, sorry not sure.
Did the board have good "get up go" speed?
Yeah it did. Especially in good surf
1st one groveled better with the wider tail, this is a better board for holding rail
Yep agree with you there
How this board comper the happy every day?
Cheers
Hmmm pretty different boards. Happy Everyday is just a solid everyday board that will work in most conditions.
Sci-fi has a certain flare about it and feels very zippy in certain conditions but I wouldn’t call it an everyday board. I actually preferred it in slightly larger waves.
@@WoolyTV zippey i like your answer.

Yeeeewwwwww
I'm 5'10 and 165 lbs with a 5/4 wetsuit. Been surfing the 5.8 scifi2 at 29 liters. used the EA black stix as I was using those on my hydroshort. The scifi2 is super fast a result.
However, on hollower steeper low-tide waves I was having problems bottom turning. It felt like the board just wants to go straight most of the time. It turns fine on an open face but you can definitely feel the QISC make the board want to go straight and fast.
Did you craig anderson fins make a difference for you? What did the fins change do in terms of board sensation?
Hi mate, I wouldnt go to the Craig Anderson fins. I usually only use the Black Stix fins when I need to generate speed. If you are having problems bottom turning then I would reduce the size of the fins to a standard fin in a small or a medium. Im 190lbs so I can get away with a large fin at times but I much prefer to use medium fins. Look a set of Neutrals from the Legacy series - that should help you out. futuresfins.com/products/f4-legacy
Sci fi 2 or frk+??
In head high or above I prefer the FRK plus
Anyone knows if new FireWire boards still turn yellow?
Can only go off the demos I have done in the past 2 years and they are all still white.
@@WoolyTV what board has a better wave range this or the flat earth?
@@stevehills5753 if you are riding steeper waves then the Sci-Fi.
If the waves are flatter then the Flat Earth. Both boards work in over head surf.
Tunes are all time.
Thanks!
Looks like the board went flat on the smaller stuff
Worked better in chest high and above
Yeh Kelly needs to go back to Simon Anderson,
I liked his surfing on Simons and Als boards but this one was pretty fast and fun to ride.
