    For anyone wondering which card they should get you should definitely get a FE card because you want the fans to push the heat out through the back of the case. Basically any card with a blower style fan like the Asus turbo line, you don't want the heat to be circulating in the case that'll make the card and rest of your components overheat.

    watching in 2019 as i'm almost done refurbing a friend's asus g20 (fixing the cabling on the ssd they added and adding another stick of sodimm ram, HS thermal paste refresh). they aren't upgrading the gpu but did ask about gpu upgrade potential, citing a concern for lack of power (i did see the extra 8pin and 6pin connectors on the mobo when I was disassembling). this video was very helpful in clarifying the jumpers to enable those connectors but also the power adapter requirements (but the google search links are no longer working)

    People of this video, from my understanding, if you look on your power supply and see 180 + 230, the 230 is the dedicated part of the power supply for your graphics card. Still make sure you move your jumpers and uninstall any old drivers so it doesn't conflict with the new video card. I currently have a 1060 3GB in my G20AJ and have had no issues.

    It is a pain in the arse getting that 8 pin in, I was contemplating removing the motherboard. I would recommend unscrewing the fans at the top of the case to make removing and inserting the graphics card a lot easier (it is the first thing I do once I am into the case).

    I have successfully upgraded my AUS ROG G20AJ
    Previous Specs: i5 4460
    8G RAM
    GTX 750
    1TB HDD
    New Specs: i7 4790
    16GB RAM
    GTX 1060 3GB (Single Fan) since I heard that double fan may cause overheating
    500GB SSD, 1TB HDD (I'm using the 1TB HDD that came with the PC as a storage drive)

    Note: I also had to purchase the 180W power supply and switch the jumpers (JDC 11) and (R20) I believe that's what they're called; and now I have the 230W + 180W Power supplies working together.
    If anyone is thinking of upgrading this PC, I highly recommend doing so. My gameplays are way smoother now and I'm completely satisfied with the upgrade. If anyone has any questions, I would gladly try to help you out.

      @@capper6100 I read somewhere that the motherboard is custom and not standard so it will not fit into a normal case. Also, the ram is laptop ram. Everything else should be able to be moved to another Mobo/case which kinda defeats the purpose of moving everything over because then you would also have to buy a power supply.

    • @nicolafabbrini3
      @nicolafabbrini3 Před 2 lety

      This is old but i'll throw my 2 cents for people wanting to do something similar in the future. Moving the internals could have his challenges:
      1) The motherboard is definitely custom built. It's shaped as an L to make space for the hard drive so I wouldn't count on the screws to align to a standard case.
      2) The CPU cooling would need to be replaced with a standard one.
      3) You would need to buy a new power unit as well since this PC comes with external supply.
      I had this computer for the past 6 years and it's still working perfectly, still the fastest and smoothest pc i have ever put my hands on. I recently opened it to upgrade from 128gb ssd main hard drive/1tb hdd secondary hard drive to 1tb ssd secondary hard drive. And i'm thinking of upgrading GPU from my old nvidia 970 gtx to something better. I agree everything is crammed inside the case with supporting metal parts everywhere giving very little room for anything but I wouldn't try changing case as you probably end up building a brand new computer keeping only half of the internals of the old set up.

    • @PaulHofreiter
      @PaulHofreiter Před 6 lety +2

      Lord Stronghold yup, no issues with the 1080. It was actually a little smaller than the 970 so it fit well and there have been no issues. Easy installation if you don’t have any problems with the screws and no power supply issues (my G20gb had dual power supplies in it when I bought it and since it ran the 970 I assumed that this wouldn’t be an issue either). Biiig performance upgrade - I got it because I have gotten into VR and needed more horsepower and the gpu was the weakest link. I wouldn’t have wanted to put in an overclocked 1080 though (got the founder’s edition) due to heat and power concerns.

    Bottom jumpers are use to dividing the adapters power delivery, all goes up means all the 230watt power will be deliver to the GPU.
    Top jumper is option for choose 1 or 2 adapter to use.
    if you set the Top jumper(JDC11) to the LEFT and bottom jumpers(JDC01-05) all UP = 2 adapters will work together( 180w adapter for CPU and 230w adapter for GPU )
    Top jumper to the RIGHT and bottom jumpers all UP = only the 180watt adapter will work for the whole system.
    Top jumper to the RIGHT and bottom jumpers all DOWN = only the 230watt adapter will work for the whole system.

    • @DrewEon
      @DrewEon  Před 7 lety +1

      If you've got both the 180 and 230W power supplies, you're good. And I'd recommend removing the metal mesh plate that's in the case for a bit more airflow. I could also recommend, if you don't mind a bit of noise, setting the GTX 1080's fan curve a little higher, as it's a warm card.

    Two questions from a non-hardware savvy person (going to install a GTX 1060 3gb):
    1) Is the large brick looking thing that came with my G20AJ model the dual power supply (180 + 230 watts) and if so would both be used during gaming making it effectively a 410 watt output?
    2) Will I have to manually delete the files that operate my GTX 760 graphics card before installing the new one, or can I just replace it from word go, boot up the computer, and follow some prompts to make the software changes?
