I’m slowly getting through some basic gender inclusivity training with some key teams. It’s difficult when people say things like “I’ve never heard of gender non-binary before, that’s given me a lot to think about” because you just know that even if they’re keen to get it right they might really crash and burn. It will be a slow improvement, but I hope a steady one.

These Bad Anatomy videos show the truth of the old phrase, "They hate the things that they don't understand."
As for "identifying transgender people by looks," that just expands their abuse to cisgender people who don't have traditional gendered features. I always make transphobes try to pin down how they plan to implement their exclusions. Looks catches some cisgender people and lets some transgender people through. Showing genitals is invasive and lets trans people with surgery through. Chromosomal testing requires a blood sample and lab, and excludes intersex people. Looking at ID lets transgender people through who live in civilized places that let people change their ID.
All of the ways they try to exclude people are cumbersome and fail part of the time. On the other hand, accepting people are who they say they are is very simple.
As for "Stealing women's titles", that's not transgender folks, that's Drag Queens. And they do it fabulously!
As for injecting transgender folks with the hormones from their assigned at birth gender, this has been tried. Again and again and again. It simply doesn't work.
I accept that LGBT kids can know who they are at a young age because I knew who I was at a young age. I knew I liked girls. I knew I was cisgender, though I never needed to put it into words. Simply because "straight" is seen as the default, people won't even question if their children are really straight. yeah this shit is alarmingly common, some doctors love pushing estrogen birth control to forcibly feminize young AFAB people, often without even telling them that's the goal! i have PCOS and i'm transmasc. when i was a teenager and started seeing testosterone affect my body, i didn't mind, but everyone told me i had to go on estrogen birth control and T blockers to "fix it". none of them ever told me there were non-estrogen birth control options that would treat my painful periods while allowing my T to stay high, or that i didn't have to take T blockers if i could live with the acne from T/ the masculinizing effects. they did not want me knowing those options existed. doctors think its up to them to decide, "well conforming to your assigned gender makes life easier/better, so that is what this person needs, and i'm living up to my Hippocratic oath by making them do it"
it is true that gender conformation treatments have been forced on young people, but never to make them trans, its always to try to force them to conform to cisgender expectations

I'm a woman in my 50s. I'm the primary wage earner, and my wonderful husband is the primary cook/cleaner in my home. He is just as much a man as ever: more of a man, IMHO. The idea that chores are defined by gender is ridiculous - and that they are offended by someone else's gender is crazy. I'm cis-gender but have never given birth. Are they going to take my woman card? If so, I'm only giving it up if I can pass it to a trans woman, because trans women are women. Those straights are not right. Keep up the awesome videos, @Jammidodger! Love your channel!

@@johnc3525 I'm not, cisgender means identifying with your biological/ birth sex as your gender identity, for most people being NB would require being trans, but for those of us who's biological sex and gender are in agreement we are cis, in order for your gender identity to match your biological sex and be nb you would have to be intersex, which I am, im a mosaic chimera meaning some of my cells have different sex chromosomes than each other. On a genetic level I am not male or female and I don't identify as either instead my gender identity is the same as my biological sex, i.e. I'm nb and I'm cis, I was AMAB but that doesn't accurately reflect my genetic makeup so it is still cis to be intersex in my case

Some of those comments remind me of things my brother said to me.
We had a very heated, and kind of touchy, talk the other night about the community. I'm afab but I prefer they/them pronouns, been experimenting with a different name, I'm asexual and gay and I'm not fully out to my family. My brother knows partly about my journey, mostly that I don't fully identify with my gender assigned at birth. Though, he has admitted that it would be very hard for him to use different pronouns for me because he's so used to using she/her his whole life and has said it's not a good idea for me to get top surgery (which is something I've wanted for a long time). He says it's not easier being a boy and he doesn't see the point in they/them pronouns for one person. (BTW, he is 23 and I'm 27)
I support the community, and have been for years, but he has a hard time with it. Mainly the trans and drag queen part. (mini side note, he voted for trump both times and we have two family members that are gay) He has had friends that are gay or bi. He thinks the drag queens are only sexualized, from his research, and are sexualizing children. He has claimed there are videos of drag queens sexualizing children. So, the drag queens doing story time or have a fun event for kids is something he doesn't agree with. He thinks that children should not listen to anything drag queens say or be near them at all. That they are a bad influence.
He also told me that giving puberty blocker and giving any surgery (top or bottom) is wrong, especially on children. He believes they are giving them all that at a young age and the blockers are destroying children's bodies. He says, because he has anorexia, which he has had it for a while, he should be able go to therapists and doctor and say he needs surgery to remove fat tissue from his body because he feels uncomfortable with how he looks, (even though he is at a healthy weight) but trans youth are able to go and the doctors and therapist and the youth would be approved and given it without question. He has a hard time seeing the difference. I tried to explain that it takes years before they are given any of it, that they have to be at least 18 years old before considered for surgery and more than 90% are happy they transitioned. He argues back with "what about the ones who regret it. They are being silent about their regrets." And that doctors say yes to all of these surgeries only for the money, not for the well being of the patient. One more part I'll mention is that he says that people who suffer from body dysphoria have a mental illness and should not be given so much credit and attention. Like on the news and social media. He says the they are given a special cookie and have to treated differently from everyone else because of the illness.
Because I support the community, want to see everyone be healthy and happy, and I own things that show my support like pins, flags and a pride calander, he feels I would die for the community but wouldn't do the same for him. That hurt a lot because I love him, even though we don't see eye to eye all the time. We have been through a lot together, even when I protected him when we were younger.
I'm sorry for such a long comment. This happen at the beginning of the month, and new year, and it has been on my mind since. Some of what those comments from the video have said reminded me of him. I've wanted to give up on my journey of self discovery because of what he said, that talk made me feel and comments like those.
I just wanted to share some of the similar things I've heard and wanted to get it off my chest. I'm sorry if what he said makes you feel uncomfortable or mad.
Honestly, I just want people to be happy and to be who they know they are.
I hope you have a nice day.

      @ettinakitten5047 Před rokem +2

@@TheObserver3 No, that's not what those words mean at all. Phenotype is *not* a subtype of genotype. Phenotype is the observed features, genotype is the genes. @@TheObserver3 they are different things. If you take a look at one gene that has a dominant version (A) and a recessive version (a), someone can have the genotype AA, Aa or aa. AA and Aa would result in them having the same phenotype, namely whatever the dominant gene version is, while aa would mean that they have the phenotype of the recessive gene version. Genotype is what genetics you have, phenotype is the expression of those genetics. Both are in use for reference to humans and other animals and I would assume that both are also used to refer to plants, but I know less about specific terminology for plant biology.
