Your body is designed so that your ribs match up with your spine, otherwise it strains muscles and nerves and can lead to serious long-term problems, like pinched nerves which if left untreated can lead to total loss of use of your arm. She had to have major surgery to correct it. For eight weeks she had to wear a contraption that held her right arm straight out at the shoulder until everything thing healed. The person at 4:37 isn't completely wrong, I mean, obviously hrt doesn't make your genitals fall off, but atrophy is a real thing that happens to many people.
testicular atrophy is kinda unavoidable and happens after a while on hrt. Basically, your body is just like" I already got my hormones why do I need these things?" So your balls start to shrink and may even retract back into the inguinal canal, which could give them the appearance of having disappeared.
Atrophy of the penis is a bit different and can be mitigated. Basically, if you don't get erections often enough, the stretchy tissue that lets the penis inflate becomes more tough and fibrous. This can happen to cis men but usually doesn't unless they are older, as morning erections while you sleep are usually enough to take care of that problem automatically. the reason it is easy to happen to trans women is the HRT keeps you from getting morning erections as easily, so to prevent atrophy you have to make a point to do it yourself.
Many trans women look forward to testicular atrophy because it makes tucking a lot easier, but as far penis atrophy, it can make erections painful and it gives surgeons less to work with if you are ever planing on getting bottom surgery, so people often try to avoid it.

In the cis world, most people do assume that all trans men get "the operation", which gives them a fully functioning set of male genitalia (and that all trans women do similar, in reverse). It's hard to blame them for this misunderstanding, since it is rude to go around asking trans men you might know about their genitals, and trans men don't tend to go around talking about it a lot. But it might be helpful if popular trans men -- like you -- did bring up that topic once in a while, and explain that most trans men *don't* actually even get bottom surgery, mainly because there really aren't any great options for creating a fully functioning penis that would closely resemble a cis man's penis in appearance and size, for a trans man. There are various bottom surgeries that exist, and many trans men have one or more of them, but none of them have that outcome. Many -- probably most -- trans men make do with the changes they get from hormones alone, possibly with the enhancement of a small surgery to free the enlarged clitoris (which most, of course, prefer to not call by that name) so that it stands up (or sticks out, depending on your perspective) more.
It's very different for trans women. After bottom surgery, you can't even tell a trans woman's genitals ever had a male appearance. Of course, not all trans women have had bottom surgery, especially since it's expensive, and not all can afford it, or can afford it yet. But if they have, they do get genitals that look just like a cis woman's. She does have to do some work to maintain that surgery, at least at first. The brand new vagina will not be flexible or stretchy yet and will want to close, if left alone. The woman will need to use a set of devices in graduated sizes every day to gradually stretch and keep open her vagina. And she won't have the same lubricating glands that a cis woman has, so she'll need to use lube. But many cis women need extra lube, too, especially as they get older.

Obviously the information does exist, if people want to go look and find it. But some people might not even realize that their assumptions need questioning. They think they already know. So, give people more chances to just come across the information, and more people will have better understanding, bit by bit.

I agree it's important to point out that many trans people aren't interested in / comfortable with / fortunate enough to get gender affirming surgeries - but also, there are many trans men who are happy with the results of theirs, and having genitalia that "passes" as cis is not always the goal. "Passing" in general is a problematic concept, suggesting every trans person should be clearly identifiable as a binary gendered person at first glance, and reinforcing the idea that anyone's gender in any culture requires visible cues.

Very true. I'm not considering bottom surgery (yet) because I want to see if the growth from T is enough for me. It does help that I am asexual, though. The ability to become physically intimate in the shape of being able to penetrate may be a deciding factor for some.

I've seen results of the surgeries (phallo, metoidio, and both in sequence) and it WOULD look acceptable enough for me to feel comfortable most of the time with a phallo or metoidio+phallo but I know JUST enough about anatomy to feel like there's a better method out there that could be used by everting some stuff and growing some artificial structures using recellularization and lattices that are currently being tested for artificial lab-grown meats. Or just plain working more on cyborg prosthetics, either's good.
I'll probably get metoidioplasty because that doesn't interfere with future surgeries (it's literally just a few ligaments and I've got spare ones in my arms (I've got the "extra" ligament that humans are phasing out in both my arms))... But I don't really want a dick that looks real when implants are manual-only, since that'd make me feel more emasculated than just... not having any at all. I'd like to at LEAST be able to have erections without having to turn the dick on manually like it's just a fancy fleshy STP packer/strap-on combo. For other guys the current implants might be enough, but I've got a hard line of at least having some rough nervous interface so it's *my* dick and it has the same level of basic function (touch and reaction) as a standard one, be it organic or artificial.

Some are major, and will be discussed with the patient thoroughly about what they are going to do, what will happen, any major side effects, if it's permanent, make sure the patient is of sound mind, and make sure the patient isn't being coerced into it. (Also I didn't want to be one of those girls that just fetishized gay men) Would a cis person pretend to be trans just to do that? IDK it sounds dumb and being trans is scary so the effort just to do that sounds like too much but that initially prevented me from starting my transition.

I identify as trans, ftm. But I'm also a femboy. It confused me for a while, but then my sister made a joke about me being female to femboy or ftfb and it really fits. My sister is also trans, mtf so this joke was not in mean spirits or made out of ignorance. My papa is trans ftm, so I guess it runs in the family in a way!/j

People can be so ignorant and so many just love to prove the fact on the internet. Especially when they are addressing "biblical" controversies. All these "christians" don't even educate themselves on how many translations of this book have totally MIStranslate for a it to fit their personal agendas.
I just heard a podcast on renaissance sexual behavior that would be very eye opening for these doubters. There was a prostitute in London arrested for plying her trade in the wrong section of town. She was born with male genitals but have lived as a female for many years. Being transfemale was not at issue, nor was her being a prostitute. She was find for where she was doing business only.

I have also studied the Torah and the Torah. What you call your bible truths are not truth. You only have access to less than 1/4 of what was originally written. (Fact: there are actually 613 commandments brought down by Moses, according to that legends original recording.) I don't care what your personal relationship with your HP is but you'll not change my options as my experiences point in a very different direction. The plural of platypus is actually neither platypuses or platypi. Strictly speaking, the correct plural form is platypodes. The other two are more commonly used and with either everyone will know what you mean, but they're both technically incorrect. Platypi is especially wrong since it applies latin rules to a word with greek origins, so that's probably why they didn't use it.
The same is true of the octopus, actually. Octopodes is correct but rarely used, Octopuses is acceptable and the most popular term but technically incorrect, Octopi is commonly used but a grammatical abomination.

    • @neoqwerty
      @neoqwerty Před 2 lety

Mirriam-Webster has an article and a video on the octopus and the plurals and which is grammatically correct, and the answer is all three for three different reasons:
Octopodes is correct because it's the greek plural and octopus is made of greek roots.
Octopuses is correct because it's an english word despite its loaned roots, and thus can be pluralized with english rules (that actually holds for all foreign loanwords, too-- they can pluralize in their own language AND in english).
Octopi is correct because it's entered common usage, the same as any made-up word can become a valid english word, like "gunsel" was.
From the same logic, platypodes and platypuses are also correct but I don't think platypi has entered into common usage yet so it's the only incorrect form.

But most people are just trying to do their best and are willing to be educated and change the way they use language. I'm pretty sure the last one is trying to make the point of "women are not united by any one trait or set of traits" (except, in their view, the typical AFAB physiological configuration). To be a woman is not to be feminine, or emotional, or whatever that person's mother or grandmother is like; it's just (read the following in a mocking tone) the experience of the female sex. So, since women are not a monolith, you can't identify with the concept of being a woman, which means you must identify with a specific woman, right? They're not confused, it's a petulant way to imply that trans women, by virtue of identifying as women without having the lived experience of an AFAB person, have oversimplified what it means to be a woman into traditional gender roles.
Unfortunately, I think TERFs, besides not understanding the biological factors of gender as it relates to sex, have a misconception about trans people's relationship with gender. TERFs believe that gender is a social construct, which I agree with. However, they take that concept and go "gender is a social construct and trans people are so stuck on gender roles that we can't move forward in society" when the reality is "gender is a social construct but it massively affects one's everyday life, as social constructs often do, so trans people adapted the best way they could, which involved conforming to gender roles." Between the biological and social reality of their situations, this was generally the best way to get what they needed to live happily and authentically. I want to talk more about the biological needs of trans healthcare to emphasize that this isn't even just about ~comfort~ and ~identity~, though frankly with how important those things are to mental health I think they should be respected in their own right, but I don't know enough about it off the top of my head and don't really have the energy to research.

I feel like that last post was trying to say something along the lines of, "only an 'authentic' (cis)woman can feel like a woman, so a trans person 'feeling like a woman' is just playing make-believe and can only steal authentic experiences from 'real' (cis)women." Which is an ugly concept, I know, but I think that's what the OP intended. I just want to know who died and made them the judge and arbiter of the "authentic woman experience?"
