    Hi!
I have this exact model. What a nice machine. Help me with an issue, if you can, that is before I, reluctantly, have to take it in. It sews fine and beautifully with quality stitches all round. However, what could the cause of the machine making a "grunting" sound when starting off? I have checked and adjusted the tension, I have set the pressure-foot to different tensions etc etc. When and how will I know if it is,eg., the motor or brushes or maybe something else?

I recently got one of these. I have just had a new pedal and cable fitted and am about to overhaul the tension mechanism, then i can set it to work. They are beautiful old machines. Thank you for the video

I have a 185J that I cleaned by watching your videos. (thank you for them, the bobbin case one really helped) I just went to test drive it and the stitch selector lever moves midway up when I start to sew. I've opened the panel and you can see the bar jump out of selected position into just about 0 position. Everything else is working fine, feed dogs are moving, needle is put in correctly, the bobbin thread is set up properly and is moving with the race. Any ideas of why this would happen, and more importantly, how to fix it? Thanks!
