  • This Singer Model 328K Style-o-Matic is a lockstitch sewing machine produced by the Singer Manufacturing Company with serial number NA502656. It is all metal and was built before the advent of planned obsolescence, designed to be repaired rather than replaced. I have personally reconditioned this machine and it sews wonderfully.
    It’s a wonderful machine for the beginner, occasional and everyday sewer. It’s great for general sewing, mending and repair work, as well as straight line quilting and decorative stitching.
    Features include:
    -Lightweight but all metal aluminum body
    -All metal gears and parts
    -Adjustable needle position
    -Adjustable presser foot pressure
    -Low shank presser bar means you can use any modern low-shank feet/attachments
    -Optional specialty stitch pattern discs for a wide variety of decorative and functional stitches
    -Uses common class 66 bobbins & 15x1 needles easily found at department stores and sewing centers
    -Light fixture placed directly above the needle for maximum visibility
    -Fits all post-1958 Singer cabinets

    Found an almost identical machine at a thrift store for 5$. Mine didn't have any accessories though other than the zig zag wheel. i oiled it and it seems to work almost perfectly. Probably need to replace the belt and bobbin tire though.

    Thank you for this! What walking foot did you use with this machine? Is there a part number?

    I have a 328 K Singer model, and purchased a Singer Even Walking foot and looking to see how to install it on this kind of machine.

    Do you know how to turn off the light? It gets really hot and i can't figure out how to turn it off. Thank you.

    Is it normal for the machine to be so clanky?

    people don't like them because they are loud. I had one in blue still loved it though

      My machine isn’t loud at all - it sounds so lovely. I think this video amplified the sound due to placement of device. But i am curious now to compare with other machines i own … you make a good point and one that merits more investigation. I’m going to compare it with a 221, 301, 403, Rocketeer and Athena - ❤❤❤thanks @choresandmore

    I just came across this video and wanted to say thanks for posting it. I have this exact model and love it! For a machine this old it's versatility is incredible. You mentioned at the beginning that you made a quilt with it. I just started quilting but I'm struggling to get thick layers under the foot. Is there a way to raise the presser foot higher? I know newer machines have this feature of raising the foot for thick layers but I can't seem to find a way with this machine. Thanks again!

    • @SewSaveMe
      @SewSaveMe  Před 3 lety +3

      That is one of the downsides of the slant machines. There is no "give" to the presser foot. I use Warm & Natural batting, so my quilts aren't so thick.

    • @nortok00
      @nortok00 Před 3 lety

      @@SewSaveMe Thanks so much for this and that's what I thought. Thanks also for letting me know the batting you use. I wonder if I'm skilled enough to remove the presser foot and try free motion straight lines. That will solve my thickness problems. Haha.

    Any idea where I could purchase metal bobbins for the 328K? It tried ebay but 35 dollars+ 20 dollar on shipment sigh.

    • @SewSaveMe
      @SewSaveMe  Před 3 lety

      I dont own one no more but If I recall there just class 66 bobbins. There are lots of great places you can still buy them. I buy bobbins by the 100 shipping is killer on all that stuff. I usally stick with old vintage bobbins though.

    • @theprojectproject01
      @theprojectproject01 Před 2 lety

      If I'm not mistaken, the hook and bobbin area is identical to the still-in-production Singer 20U33 industrial machine.

  • @heraldjose

    Mine is a 220v 328k and it runs way faster than on this video

    • @SewSaveMe
      @SewSaveMe  Před 3 lety

      220v motors usally spin faster then wimply us 110v motors. Check your motor rpm vs a us 110v motor I bet yours spins faster.
