    Been using Android since 2009. Bought Lumia 830, 6 months ago... Never again I will join Android army or consider anything else. Windows 10 is running fantastic on 830. Also, 80% of this review is wrong, at least for me - You can't feel the back cover moving (4 different 830 tried). Apps are all there. I searched today for PDF reader of some kind: 300+ apps. Calendar with nice Live Tile: 400+ apps. Background noise? Nope, nobody said that to me. Asphalt 8 lagging? Nope, and I play a lot of games. I don't have a problem with the speaker since it's much better in quality than any phone I used (Sony Z3, Note 3, HTC Sensation, OnePlus, Zopo 780 etc...). Windows is getting better with version 10. So I'm a really, really happy user of this phone. Everything just works, no updates unless it's broken. I can even chat with Microsoft service via my phone if I have a problem and I don't even live in major region as a customer (Croatia, Europe) + my issue was resolved in minutes. I was hating Windows for years, but wanted to give it a try... Now I'm hating Android. If you wanna jump in and use it as a daily driver - this is the time.

    Honestly, a removable battery and expandable storage is something that should be more common. I don't understand why it's getting so common for phones to not have these features. Given the choice of 2 phones with identical featuresets aside from one having expandable memory and a removable battery, i would think a customer is more likely to choose the one with the expandable storage and removable battery.
    But what do I know? I'm just a consumer.

Realizing I can't go to my local electronics store and get a new one for 15-20€ but instead I have to send the device and shit like that makes me not even consider non-removable battery smartphones in the future.

    Good video, I have Lumia 830, The speed of the camera improved alot with the firmware:8.10.14234.375, but, Microsoft should improve the interface and multitasking, WP has no lag, but displays messages like:Resuming or Loading, or Wait, with 3 animated points, that is annoying.
    They should improve the music and video applications too, the way the phone is placed in silence, integrate all camera applications in a single one, the S400 fell short, must have had at least S600, a better front camera, the battery and the sound could be better too....
    On the other hand, the lack of applications such as Wifi Analyzer (There are none in this style, apparently problems with its APIs), MomentCam, etc, which are always released first for iOS/Android, and the WP users, have to wait months to see if perhaps, they have some luck.
    Btw, WhatsApp notifications in WP 8.1 = fail...

    Man, I remember back in 2015 when I was getting my first cellphone. I had the choice between this and the Samsung Galaxy Prime and I wanted this phone so bad because it seemed so futuristic and beautiful to the eye.
    I ended getting the Galaxy Prime because of the price point, and honestly that was most likely the right choice. If I had invested into windows phone back then I was most likely going to wind up disappointed and melancholy of the fall of Windows phone as a platform. I still am to some degree, but not nearly as much as if I had actually used it on a daily basis.
    Been an android man ever since, and I'm currently using a Galaxy S20 plus having previously come from the Sony Xperia XZ3. Hopefully microsoft can revive windows phone in some fashion, but I doubt it'll ever happen. For now I'm just going to be nostalgic.

    When I first saw the 830 announcement I thought it would be my next phone, since I need an upgrade from my aging Lumia 520, it looked like the perfect phone since it had some features that the 930 didn't, like Glance.
    However looking at it now the shortcomings over the 930 really make the 930 worth getting over the 830. It isn't much more expensive over here in Australia so what's the point of getting the 830? Think of it like this, the 830 is like a standard version of a car and the 930 is the better version of the same car. It'll look like a nice car until you pull up alongside the better version, and then you'll feel cheap because you bought the lower end model, the same goes with the phones.

    • @phatt180
      @phatt180 Před 9 lety +3

      I agree, my friend has the 930 so i'd thought i'd try the 830 (first windows phone) just to be a little different but now i'm regretting it.... don't get me wrong the 830 is nice but for that little bit extra you can get a "great" version of the same thing.

    • @juffurey
      @juffurey Před 9 lety +1

      in that sense there is no point, get the 930. my only issue is that it is a fair amount bulkier than the 830.

    • @JackStavris
      @JackStavris Před 9 lety

      juffurey
      It's not that bad really. For me something like the Lumia 920 is considered "bulky", the 930 is fine honestly. Anything beyond that is just being nit-picky.

    • @charl.meyers
      @charl.meyers Před 9 lety +1

      Same here when I saw the 830 I instantly fell in love, but since my carrier doesn't have the 830 I took the 930 for my upgrade. And I must say that the extra money is worth it, especially the 930's camera.

    • @karthiknaik3944
      @karthiknaik3944 Před 9 lety +5

      Only thing that 830 has over 930 is the sd card slot and glance screen otherwise given the price difference,930 is much better in nearly every way
      also no one said 830 was a flagship,they call it an affordable flagship so its understood that its a mid ranger
      the cons of this phone,mentioned in the review are a bit too vague and i think MF reviewed it from the eyes of a high end buyer and was too hard in the phone
      its a fine phone even if its $100 overpriced,atleast in India and the SD400 is no stunner but its no slouch either
      my verdict- Lumia 830 - Overpriced by $100 yes, slouch- no
      im sure , android users will undermine it as usual and will bicker but WP is not android,so this phones hardware doesnt need octa core etc to run properly and will easily match the performance of android on an SD800/801 imho ,except where ram is a need, 1gb ram is great for everything but for FHD mkv files and some intensive games ,youd be better off with a 2gb ram+ lumia such as the 930
      that being said,the 830 is no slouch and is the perfect buy for people who need an sd card slot for more storage and a smaller display with glance
      for everything else,theres Lumia 930!!

    Wasn't much of a fan of the 1080p AMOLED on the Lumia Icon, but I'd still rather have that than a 720p LCD. Also, I would call this camera much more than just a mid-range shooter. Colors look just as good, if not better than, my Sony Z2 and Megapixels, shMegapixels!

    i have a lumia 830 and i am very happy with it, is better than my old lumia 720, even if the screen glance on my old lumia 720 is a little bit better than glance screen of lumia 830. the only down of lumia 930 is the missing of an microSD card slot. on my lumia 830 i have an 128 GB microSD card and apps take almost 30 GB, plus another 30 GB on photos and video recs. so, at least i am happy with 830. 9/10

    I've spent a good while deciding between 930 and 830, coming from a 920. Sure, the 930 is better in just about anything. The problem with the Lumia 900+ series is that Microsoft packs capable cameras in phones that have a disappointing 32 Gb storage limit (with around 28 available). In the end, what made me buy an 830 was its expandable storage option. Now if a Lumia 940 had a micro sd slot or at least a 64 Gb version, that would made me consider another upgrade. For now, I am happy with my 830, which is a very decent phone by the way.

    Here in Brazil you will find the 830 costing around USD 230 to 300 unlocked the 930 you can find for around USD 450, it's a substantial amount and I don't know if it's worth it to buy the 930 specially in my case since I thinking of buying to be my secondary phone, the camera seems to be a lot better than they say in this review basing in all other reviews of this phone including the other reviewer from this same chanel, and I think it's a better phone overall than other mid range phones, specially when you find the phone for USD 230 in some Internet deals.

      truthfully the 930 has great battery life, the 830 has a little better but it isn't anything to worry about. But yeh its all about choice and if glance and sd outweigh the smoothest phone possible and a gorgeous oled screen then yeh the 830 is a great choice, otherwise 930 but both great phones.

    • @JasonHendry22
      @JasonHendry22 Před 9 lety

      ***** I can actually change my battery on the 930 it just isn't a 2 sec job, more like a 40 sec job. the sd slot and the e really to me the only real features that would sway my mind. As I'm currently on about 22gig music and still have 8gig on my 32gig phone itll be a year or 2 become I need above that. Would I like a sd slot well yeh ofc. glance is awesome too, id love that feature. But as I own both the 830 and 930 its the amoled screen that's the real winner here and the main reason the 830 sits neatly on my desk and the 930 in my pocket. Add that to the super silky smooth, possibly smoothest phone I have ever seen, with snapdragon 800 vs the 400compared to the 830s, near iPhone smoothness but not quite then well the 930 wins my heart, but yeh id love the 930 to have a sd slot and glance, but not at the expense of those 2 features. the 830 is a great phone but it is a mid ranged phone.

    Hmm im lucky in picking this phone up for $320 here in Australia from a person who had a spare lol. For that price its a brilliant phone but buying outright from the stores its around $480 which is way too much in my opinion. The price difference is Australia is like 4/5ths of the 930. It straight up makes ZERO sense to buy a Lumia 830 outright here. Hell, at one point it was cheaper to get a 1520 before stock ran out. DUMB.

    • @Scerttle
      @Scerttle Před 9 lety +1

      Also, design wise; I would prefer a bottom mounted USB port, curved edges on the sides (similar to the 925, but with a flat bottom like the 920), front or side firing speakers, and a less pronounced camera disk. Everything else about the design is quite nice.

    I usually like your reviews but this one I dnt think u did a great job. Are you reviewing the 830 or the OS ecosystem? Because I use the 830 and the 930 I have to say that the only down fall I see is the lack of denim camera. The slim fit on the 830 I'd a big plus and I really dnt notice a big difference in screen quality.

    @jonah travisano how no way, a better camera, replaceable battery, up to 128gb SD card, thinner, better sound recording, color changing faceplates, better Dolby support, I see lots of wins, the only plus the 920 has is its form factor(which is a plus on the 830 too) and how durable it is. (830 is durable too)

      Julio Cuello You didn't gave a reason or reasons why it will get the full update. I can be wrong but it is struggling with low memory. Imagine when it gets the full update it is going to be sluggish. That is what I'm basing my opinion on. Facts evidence!

      This is a Firmware Update, not an OS update. Neither of them would cause the device to go slow or anything closer, it's the other way arround, better overall performance.
      It will 'cause it is PureView enable device.

      @Tech4YourNeeds Před 9 lety +1

Just point that because you haven't have me a concrete hard evidence that you are right. That is all u have to said. Enough said you get where I coming from. Done!

    Agree with this review completely. Nokia/Microsoft made the mistake of trying to sell this phone as a flagship based on its design, not its specs. If you live outside of the States, there's little to no reason to choose the 830 over the 735/730. If you live in the States, the phone is too expensive to justify compared to last year's Lumia 1520 or even the HTC One for Windows.

    • @karthiknaik3944

      really they try to sell this as a flagship? Weird as the 930 and the 1520 are both out there before this phone. Why are people using the term flagship here, I just don't get it. • @karthiknaik3944
      @karthiknaik3944 Před 9 lety

      nah android apps are a pita on other platforms(and android itself Lol :D )
      the only thing missing from WP app store is Snapchat,some bank apps and some games(the latter is totally unnecessary in any smartphone imho)
      also the app situation is a massive overhype in WP,there are a few missing apps here and there but not enough to make me want to switch to another OS totally,all the necessary apps are there
      but of course thats my opinion and everyone should probably check the app store to see which of their fav apps are missing

    • @Pocketnow
      @Pocketnow  Před 9 lety +10

      Earlier versions performed almost flawlessly on sub-par hardware, but since 8.1 we've seen performance more in line with other platforms. Windows Phone still runs quite well on midrange/low-end hardware, but it's no longer the big distinction it once was (especially given Android's recent improvements in this regard). ^M

    • @karthiknaik3944
      @karthiknaik3944 Před 9 lety

      point taken though im disappointed with the performance of my Nexus 5 on Android Lollipop,even the design wasnt well thought out
      I ended up downgrading to Kitkat and my Nexus 5 is literally back to life after the misfortunate upgrade to 5.0
      though I will give google credit for fixing bugs and releasing 5.0.1 because 5.0 was totally unusable with the battery and wifi bug which was supposedly fixed before the OTA but wasnt
      I do find my 720 slightly slower on 8.1 than on 8.0 and I think camera performance was best on the Portico Update than on the later builds but I still feel 8.1 is smoother than android kitkat or lollipop on similiar hardware
      ios 8 has certainly caught up in optimising older hardware and is faster on the ipad 2 than when it was on ios 7 or even ios 5 and 6
      Hopefully Windows 10 might be the "ios 8" of the Windows Phone software releases going by the fact that they rewrote the OS alot to optimise it(rumour)

      Pocketnow Android improvements in this regard? Ha! What improvements? You mean "Google improvements", android is still laggy and slow on almost all midrange and low-end smartphones (except for moto E and Moto G maybe)... even samsung S5 and LG G3 seems slow and a little laggy after 2-3 months of use, that do not happen with WP

    I'm subscribed for almost a year
    And this is the first video to dislike
    Actually the phone runs pretty smooth (and I'm using 1520) so there is a gab in the performance but not that it will make something unusable or a pain as you said
    Yea maybe its a bit more expensive but its for the premium looks and I think you have a defected cover because I held 2 and the were not bending
    But at least I have to agree on the app gab because I use m8 alongside my 1520 and I find my self sometimes forced to use it
    And I think its the longest comment ever written 😜
