    While there isn't much left to discuss with Windows Phone, it still is fun to go back and look at what was. The Nokia Lumia 830 was another in a superb line of devices that showcased features we wouldn't get for years on either Android or iOS.

    The Lumia 950 remains my all-time favorite phone ever! Always-on display, wireless charging, USB 3.1, secure face unlock, headphone jack, FM radio, 18W charging, replaceable battery, SD expandable memory, and continuum. Oh and that phenomenon camera! And all this in 2015! AMAZING!!!
    Not much functions software wise now. Outlook mail, nope. OneDrive, no longer syncs. EdgeHTML is basically defunct, so no browsing.
    Such fond memories using Windows Phone. You can say whatever you want about Android and iOS devices, but Windows Mobile devices had something they will never have.

    • @Banom7a
      @Banom7a Před měsícem +2

      funnily enough, outlook still sync gmail if you set it up manually, onedrive still do camera backup for my lumia 950, although the browser was never ever good even when it was new in 2015

    • @bricequirl
      @bricequirl Před měsícem

      @@Banom7a I know the Monument browser gave you a little bit more life after Microsoft abandoned EdgeHTML, as the app devs at least continued to push some updates. W10M was so great!
      Maybe this resurgence in Windows on Arm w/ SD X Elite will make Microsoft consider possibly getting back into more "mobile" class devices. Maybe.

    • @Banom7a
      @Banom7a Před měsícem

      @@bricequirl yeah, monument tried but it still inherently edgeHTML underneath (like any other browser on W10M)
      i hope so too but i guess a lot of people and OEM are already burned out by MS promised nor MS want to do such thing as it is unprofitable.

    1GB of Ram and a snapdragon 400 went a long way with this phone , imagine it having a successor with 12GB of Ram and snapdragon 7 gen 3 , it could've been the world's fastest budget phone
    -It had OIS for a midrange phone something the flagship iphone didn't have till 4 years later
    -removable battery, a feature we all miss
    - changeable back , change the color or the policarbonate back when it wears down
    - clear black technology for LCD , you didn't have to worry for burn ins on Samsung oleds like back in the day but had deep contrast

    My first smartphone was a Lumia 530. Even though it only had 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, it performed quite well. I was even playing an early version of Asphalt 8 and it was very playable.
    It still works to this day but as a feature phone because support was cut off a long time ago.

    I miss my windows phone so much. Especially the days when you could check and post all your social media straight from the People hub. The Xbox integration was so nice too.

      @@StevealiciousTech The duopoly certainly doesn't help. People were so stubbornly entrenched in what they knew they didn't want to give windows phone a chance, when that happened Apple and Google knew they had no reason to try and innovate.

      Had a bunch of these through the years. My sister and mother love them. I loved selling them to elderly people when I was a sales person. The one I always wanted was the one with that amazing camera. Funny I have a Samsung and a Pixel and do not really use the cameras on them.

    Cool a windows phone I was totally invested into it and totally bummed when Microsoft killed it. Windows 8 on my Nokia 920 was so cool it had so many features the social updater part it had all your feeds onto it not remembering the name exactly right but anyway it had a lot of things that were ahead of its time in Microsoft totally blew it

    still looks awesome in 2024. i think they can't/won't do integrated tiles/homescreens is because every manufacturer has their own android skin. instead of getting app updates, the manufacturer will need to update the skin whenever there are new features. that would cost them too much time. they won't do it.

    If Microsoft took their phones seriously they probably would have been the dominant phone company now. A lot of their phones were light years ahead of other companies at the time. Steve Ballmer was all in on getting into the mobile business, but Bill Gates didn't want to go in that direction, so it eventually basically fizzled out, unfortunately .

    I really wish... wish... Microsoft re-created Windows Phone but working with Amazon and Google so we can have apps from Amazon Store or Google Playstore since Google also has Google Play on PC why not bringing the access to Playstore to Windows Phone, unlike what they did on Windows 10 Mobile BETA (Which allow APK installation with compatibility layer but not official permission from Google which is why it's canceled)
    With this, it just like Windows PC with Access to Amazon App Store, but in this case it is Windows Phone and partnership with Google Playstore (not just APK sideload)
