    I know this is an old video but I wanted to thank you for making your experience available. I'm in the process of changing out the engine air filters in my 2013 ML350 Bluetec and decided to go ahead and replace the PCV valve at the same time. The amount of disassembly involved is indeed out of proportion to the parts replaced. I can see why a shop would charge a large figure for the job. The valve is out and waiting for the arrival of the replacement, also ordered the filters but they sent the wrong ones. Returned those and biting the bullet, buying from Benz to ensure the I get the correct ones, 10 year old vehicles make part finding more difficult as the years go by. Again thank you for making a hard task easier. Cheers!

      Thanks for the kind words. I have always been lucky with eBay orders for the air filters after a lot of careful research.
      I think on the first set I ordered I did have to drill a hole and modify them a little, but nothing too difficult.

    I’ve ordered one from Amazon today for the mechanic to install tomorrow. There is this slight cranking sound as well coming when I do the cold starts in the morning. Well, as I of now I am getting the check engine light for the PCV replacement but I have also heard from other videos that the whistling sound may also be coming due to the same reason.

    Hi, thanks for the vid. I don't have that car but as a tool afficionado I'd suggest you to get a 1/4" ratchet and 1/4" E8 and E10 sockets. They are much smaller and may make you do the job quicker.

    could a bad PCV be the cause of the smoke on first start (only when the car is cold)? (Cls 350 cdi 2014)

    Would be nice to see you cut through the old one to see what's inside the chamber /how it separates oil vapor

      I sold the old one, otherwise I may have done that and made a video. But actually there is very little inside, just a spring and a diaphragm. It looks like if there is any low pressure at the turbo it opens, but does not open if the inlet is a higher pressure than the crankcase. Oil is separated in the camshaft, the large rubber seal is mean to to make an air tight seal to the camshaft. Mine was worn so I bought a new one at huge expense, hence why I sold the old one.

      The separation happens at the centrifugal plastic fan that spins with camshaft and only lets air to pass through the openings but oil is ejected by centrifugal velocity.

    This inner seal is deformed, it has a huge hole, that's why it sucks out so much oil. Just Google the new part and compare it to one in your video. I ordered a pcv for x164(A6420100131 - 40$) om642 and used all seals from it and refreshed my pcv assembly with those. Otherwise you will spend 120 + 12 on the seal and o ring.

      That actually pretty smart and I didn't think of that. I got an OEM one cheapish from eastern Europe, and fitted that. I also sold the used one for pretty much the same price.

    does anyone know how to test the PCV valve function itself?

    My pcv valve is defective on my GL350. Anyone know the Mercedes part number? Over here in Hungary you have to give the part number to the auto parts dealer. They dont look it up for you. Great 🤔

      Call your MB dealer with your VIN. They can provide all information. You are not obligated to buy from them.

    Hi there did that fixed the oil in the turbo?

      It definitely helped. Some comments recommend changing it regularly as a consumable part.

    Is the PCV different than the oil separator ?

    • @jackpwc01
      @jackpwc01  Před rokem

      The oil is separated in the camshaft. Not sure what other separators there are? The PCV is just a valve between the crankcase and the inlet manifold, or in this case the turbo inlet.

    hii great work but what’s the PCC function?

    • @jackpwc01
      @jackpwc01  Před 3 lety

      Do you mean the PCV? Positive Crankcase Ventilation - it lets the bottom end of the engine breathe through the top when the pistons get blow-by

      My heart sank when I saw the e10 socket drop into the void. Great video and instruction, thank you!
