The Sabres could really benefit from having a coach like Tortorella.. I know he’s controversial and all that but he makes teams perform and succeed.
In terms of the Sabres and playoffs: Until they actually make it, I honestly don't care what they do in the offseason or how many people decide to pick this team to make the playoffs next season.
With how the team performed last year and comparing it to this year, It's probably the most disappointed this fanbase has ever been during this drought. When this team was playing good last season, that building was rocking and there was belief that this drought was coming to an end. Now the franchise has lost the respect of the fanbase once again and has to build it back up with them, and this time I don't see that building packed to capacity regularly until they actually clinch a playoff spot.
And with the players you mentioned who the Sabres could go after, guarantee you none of them want to come to Buffalo.
That’s basically where I’m at. Just like Toronto can do literally anything in the regular season, and it won’t matter until they prove it in the playoffs, the Sabres can do anything in the offseason, but it won’t matter until they actually prove themselves in the regular season. I’m not excited about this team until they make the playoffs 3 years in a row.
the Fat Lady has been singing for the Sabres for 13 years in a row I fell for the hype this past off-season and was disappointed not sure if I will believe anything more about any new hype for this team any player in their right mind would say no to an offer from Buffalo 🦬
@@DarkLobster69 I just need them to make the playoffs just once. If that ever happens, it'll be the opposite reaction of when the Bills ended their drought. Instead of saying "Holy Shit" and going crazy in pure jubilation, it'll be more like a "Thank Fucking God" reaction.
Regression from tage and cozens killed us. Tage had 47 goaks last year hes got 22 now. Cozens had 32 and he has 13 right now. Our offense regressed

UPL had best save % and less allowed goals since january 1st in NHL. Dont blame the goalie.
They have the pieces of a playoff team now, just need the right voices behind the bench
If a young team like this isn't hungry enough to want to crush the competition each game, I doubt a coaching change will help. Especially how they say they live the friendly player coach Granato
@@scottmccombs2257 the only time they’re competitive is when they play their own game. It’s when they play granatos “system” that they are hesitant and don’t know what exactly to do. They need structure my guy
They needed to shore up their backend and goaltending, Theyv've definitely improved their D, though a strictly Defensive D-man (good puck possession in own zone, hits, blocks and has more takeaways than giveaways), will go a long way and give them an excellent top-6. Goaltending finally starting to look good w/UPL and Levi the backup next season. They will be much improved next season.
Clague maybe had one shift with Dahlin all season, Dahlin was with Samuelson
Samuellsson was hurt most of the season.
A team full of middle/bottom 6 forwards, an elite defenceman and 2 second pair dmen is not a recipe for success. This team has no natural goal scorers and no leadership. No one on the team besides Clifton even knows what the playoffs are. They are a full proper rebuild away from making the playoffs.
They have an elite C In Thompson.
Dylan Cozens has shown he can be a good #2 C by putting up 67pts his 3rd year. He just had a bad year this year.
Quinn, Peterka and Tuch are all future 30 goal scorers and skinner has done it a lot.
Dahlin and Power are first pairing D and Samulson and Byram are solid 2nd pair D that would be paired with power and dahlin.
Buffalo is the youngest team in the nhl.
Teams that young never ever perform right away.

@@italian1ist he had a career year that he will never come close to replicating just like Cozens. They will be a great 2nd line 3rd line combo but without some legit top line payers they will always just be a .500 team.
In other words, you basically want to kill an NHL Franchise with the longest playoff drought in league history with doing a “Proper Full Rebuild” when currently having the youngest team in the league and also having the top prospect pool in the league.
In regard to Tage, this is basically a down year for him due to dealing with an injury to his hand/wrist area. But coming off seasons where he put up 36 and 47 Goals in his last two seasons as a #1 Center, he’s fine where he is.
If the PowerPlay was more efficient this season, most of the guys on the Top 6 would be in that 20-30 goal range, and they’d be sitting comfortably in a playoff spot right now.

I watch the sabres whenever my team isn't on so i watch around 35-40 games every season and it is just fascinating how they continue to take a step forward, then a step back.
My take on this year, bad coaching, poor development of prospects, too quick to insert thier prospects into the nhl. I think they draft pretty well but development, nah.
Poor team defense, also stands out.
No drafting of players with vigor or spite which we currently don't have
The Sabres last made the playoffs just before the Thrashers moved to Winnipeg. Atlanta will have a NHL team once again before the Sabres make the playoffs.
If I was a Sabers fan I wouldn’t care about how far I would go in the playoffs I would just want to make them and end that drought as a Jets fan I totally understand and would want the same thing
I just can't believe that after 12 years of rebuilding they haven't attained quality defensive depth. It's a core need for any team wanting to make the playoffs.

@@italian1ist Took them a long time to get those resources in this 13 year playoff drought. Just in the last few years. Now they have to prove they can push into the playoffs. Until then it’s just talent on paper and that doesn’t necessarily equate to quality defensive depth.
@@Michael_RareZebra I don't think the problem with the team this year was defensive depth it was scoring and the fact that their powerplay is a bunch of statues trying not to move when they get into their positions. If they had an average powerplay this season they would likely be in a wildcard spot.

Tage breaking his hand has and in my opinion is still hindering him. Along with other early injuries. Have not been the same since their returns.

Consistentcy. they're like all the rebuild teams (mine included) are able go out and kickass, but not able to play with that type of edge every play and get back more leads, and take more games.
Great video man and it's being discussed on Sabres forums almost everyday here. Most would agree Granato should go, I'm fine if Adams is gone also. I'd love to see them hire a disciplinarian like Berube, since they're now past the developmental stage I think they need someone to whip them into shape. Another goalie who can win us some games while Levi hones his craft in the AHL a year or 2, a faceoff guy since we're abysmal and them, we need more grit & toughness on the bottom 6. We'll probably have to buyout Skinners contract because when he doesn't score the guy is a complete waste of space who does nothing right imo. Those are my hot takes!

Also, speaking of coaches, watch them reunite with Lindy Ruff now that hes gone from here in New Jersey.
I wouldnt be surprised at all if Craig Berube wasnt behind the bench next season for the sabres.
Still cant figure out why Oloffson with 30 plus goals cant get any 2 nd line time instead of Benson? No wonder goals are hard to come by

IMHO they need a top pairing defensive defenseman that can play with Rasmus Dahlin. It’s a no brainer to sign Brett Pesce in the offseason if he is UFA. Also maybe a veteran goalie for a year or two so UPL doesn’t have to carry the full workload and Levi can develop. Just my thoughts, Buffalo will be a dynasty in no time.

5 of the Sabres main defensemen are 24 and under. Dahlin, Byram, Jokiharju, Power, Samuelsson, leaving Bryson, Clifton and/or Clague.

Buffalo and Ottawa have brought in the young talent but failed at team building. Detroit I would argue has less young talent but has really succeed in assembling a cohesive roster with good depth

Young team but a coach that would rather be their FRIEND than their LEADER, Their Coach that holds them accountable. Granato has them all confused as to the TYPE of game they should play. Adams won't fire the NICE GUY GRANATO ... SO Adams MUST GO as well. Lindy Ruff as the new GM and BERUBE as they new coach. That would get us moving in the right direction. Then add some grit as they have almost NONE. UPL was fabulous or it could have been MUCH WORSE

He is usually the hardest worker on the ice. Wins a lot of puck battles for his size and age but hasn't found a consistent scoring touch.
Not putting up the big stats, but otherwise playing about as well as you can expect for a 18-year-old who was drafted 13th overall. Smart Hockey player that always gives 110%.
I can't blame Granato, if key defensemen aren't present. He hasn't played since Jan 20th. Dude needs a healthy season.
They need to go out and get Saros and get a experience coach like Todd McLellan, Gallant, Berube, or even Sutter.

Victor Olofsson is garbage anytime he isn't scoring...Benson is all over the opposition anytime they have the puck and goes in hard and will outmuscle several guys on a dump in they aren't even in the same stratosphere and Benson is in his first season at 18.....

You have missed a few things. When you looked at the current D pairings, you did not notice that Mattias Samuelsson, who would be the other RD, is injured. After getting Byram, their top 4 D may be fine with Samuelsson back.
The other important thing is that they have 4 first round picks (Kulich, Ostlund, Savoie, Rosen) not yet in the NHL, plus another high first rounder this year, plus several second rounders like Walhberg and Strbak. So much talent not yet on the NHL roster.
It is a mystery why this talented roster did not make the playoffs. Someone needs to be able to blend all the existing talent with the upcoming talent. Is that Granato?

Sabres need desperately a goalie. Levi will be the answer but he's not ready yet. Hopefully sabres can pick up great goaltender. Maybe Markström, Gibson.

Although I thought that Kevyn Adams did The Best he could, given that all of his players had wanted out (Eichel, Reinhardt & other), so, he got The Best he could in Tuch & others, there are 2 important downsides to him. First, if he'd gotten rid of Ralph Krueger, that Eichel, Hall, Staal team could've gone so much further than they did & therefore, Adams is to blame for that. Second, right now, in getting Greenway & others in this year's trades, he's putting A Bandaid On A Bullet Wound. Therefore, he's to blame for it. Finally, as an extra, it should be noted The Pagulas/Owners are willing to spend money (I believe that they also own A Basketball Team that's quite a Success). Therefore, it's not as if Kevyn Adams' hands are tied as to making acquisitions. Let me know what you think. As always, enjoyed the video.

buffalo as a location is not very attractive. the irony is, buffalo in the playoffs is like a canadian market.

I would say Lacrosse is more of a sport than soccer is but ok.
They need a goalie. Levi isn't ready. UPL is not answer. Comrie is nowhere near good enough to be starter.
UPL has been a high end goalie outside of the yesterday. Levi has been inconsistent at the NHl level, but he has a winning record top 20 in goals save above expected and has been a very good AHL goalie too.

@@aapoheikkila5542. A hot streak. That is your take. Yeah, no, a hot streak is something a goalie goes through for three weeks or so. Boucher having 4 shutouts in a row in an otherwise lackluster career is a hot streak. UPL has been consistent since Jan 1 and has only had a year and or less if truly consistent ice time, which I blame on Granato, and Adams for signing Comrie.
UPL is not some stiff from the 6th round. He has a really good pedigree and has shown growth since his first year in the AHL.

Exactly. UPL isn't good enough nor will be. He will most likely be average goalie and maybe good backup. Levi will be star goalie but it's going to take years before he's ready. For next 3-4 yesrs Sabres need great goalie. Guy like Jacob Markström or John Gibson.
What? Upl has been in the top of league since december. Offensive regression is what killed us. Tage had 47 goals and 50 assist last year. He has 22 goals and 20 assists this year. Cozens had 35 goals last year. He has 14 now
UPL is playing great right now, but being a #1 I'm not sold on yet.
