homebaked bread is a solution for you. no need for yeast even, you can make bread with sourdough. basically you need flour and water only. sure best results with dutch oven (you need normal oven and some sort of heatproof dish wirh lid, best are cast iron pots) but you can do that and you can have a good 2 kg of bread wirh 1 kg of flour
Outside of prison you can make a meal thats SO MUCH better for $10, potatoes with some nice vegetables (sugar snap beans are a personal favourite) and if you dont buy a too big piece you can even afford a more luxurious meat (Iberico pork for example which is out of this world!). Even for $1 you can make some nice stuff, check Brothers Green Eats on youtube they have a video on how to live on $3 a day/$1 meals.

1) Buy $10 worth of cheese (4 tubs)
2) Trade 1 spoon full for ramen to multiple ppl
3) At an estimated 20 scoops per tub, you’ll have 20 noodles per tub of cheese
4) $10 of cheese = 80 noodles
5) Paid $2.50 per tub/20 spoons=$0.12 per spoon=each bag of ramen only cost you $0.12
6) Sell noodles for $0.30 a bag
7) Profit ($24 gross revenue for every $10 of cheese)=$14 profit

You don't need to sell noodles at a loss. Noodles ARE the currency, 3 noodles equal a dollar. For low dollar amounts, like under 5 dollars, you might trade in noodles.

People be like imagine how can you only eat a ramen noodle. Meanwhile that was 90% of my lunch from 6-16. Occasionally we got some American cheese, that came individually wrapped, that we would mix in and feel like we where living large. Also if you got the shrimp, or as we knew it the pink packet, you where balling. The way you knew if you were truly poor is how much watered down the soup was and if you mixed it with the next batch
I remember years ago I was kicked out of the house after I graduated high school. At the time after rent and everything I could only afford $20 a week for food. A guy my friend knew took me to dollar tree and showed me how to make spread. His exact words were, "This isn't healthy and you'll get tired of it but it'll keep you alive." Watching this brings me back, real talk the Bar S Hotdogs are great in these.
8 minutes in and we're adding the first ingredient to the first of the two meals. Holy hell, no wonder this guy's so enthusiastic about prison; years into his sentence he's thinking to himself "hey, this first day wasn't so bad"

We used to do something similar to these. I was only in jail for a small bid so it was pretty relaxed, but we’d have the homie who did clean up swipe us an extra garbage bag (obviously clean). Then four of us or so would thrown in. We’d lay the garbage bag out on a table, get a base of ramen going, then throw on top, crushed up doritos, fritos, pepperoni, jerky, mayo, BBQ, nacho cheese and pickles. We’d then portion it up among those who threw in and put shares into empty chip bags. Sometimes, we’d leave a little extra in case someone wanted to trade say, a bag of tuna for a few scoops.
I decided to come back and rewatch this video and I must say, a pouch of shredded white chicken here in PA will run you about $5.69! That's the most expensive pouch on the commissary list.. everything else is anywhere between .79 cents to $2.69

Not going to lie. Some of these videos provide me with inspiration to experiment with different ingredients in the kitchen. Some ramen meals can really be amazing. Especially with meat and cheese and plenty of vegetables. Chips and cheetos make for the best crunch in a ramen recipe.

chicken head lmao no man I was the “hall man” I did all the laundry and made set up bags for incoming inmates so I had access to soap and state tooth paste so I’d sell it for soup lol the family hooked me up with 50.00 a month
chicken head it doesn’t cost 10$ to make the meal cuz most people leave out the chicken cuz it doesn’t taste all that good anyway and most of the time your splitting up with at least 1 other person. Plus like dude said he had the hook up with soup and tooth paste. Those 2 items are 2 of the top 5 items u need soon as u get in. Before u even start buying soup and chips u have to get soup, shampoo, tooth paste tooth brush deodorant. If dude had the hook for soup and tooth paste he was prob getting most of the items he needed for his hook up every night anyway.
The only day you would be eating a meal like that is on PAYDAY, every day after that, meals get consecutively sparser.

I was a guard in TDCJ and i saw a lot of this stuff with my own eyes... And i have actually eaten a lot of these meals youve shown. There they just called them "swole"
I enjoyed this video and a few others. This is giving me some really great ideas as I live on a budget and I absolutely love both ramen and boiled eggs. And since living on my own I have learned two things. 1. Shop in Bulk. And lesson 2.Make your food stretch. Since I struggled financially when I first moved in. My stomach shrank so I only eat once per day. But, my food lasts two months before I need to go shopping again. Well, minus eggs, milk, and cereal. And bottled water. Your channel is giving me some really good ideas to stretch my groceries mainly ramen, even further. So, for that I just want to say Thank you.

Not only is it ridiculous what jails and prisons charge for commissary items, but that some county jails now charge inmates around $1.50 - $2.00 per day for their inedible meals . While the inmates are not required to pay back that amount, if you want to purchase commissary items someone needs to pay of that balance. That amount adds up quickly. Usually, to avoid paying this balance people go through through third party approved vendors to send care packages that are also outrageously expensive.
I sent one once to help someone out and the $50 dollar package would cost around 8 dollars ar Walmart for those items.

Get a skid pack toothpaste tube and wash it out. Store your pepper packets in it. The mint really kicks that pepper up.
Jailhouse deviled eggs:
Get some hard boiled eggs.
Cut in half and scoop out the yolks.
Mix the yolks up with mayo packs, chicken ramen flavor pack, sugar and some pepper stored in the skid row toothpaste tube.
Garnish with a sprinkling of salt and a little dusting of hot chicken ramen seasoning.
Makes for a great appetizer during a movie with your friends.

Never been to prison, but spent 15 months in county jail. Didnt get money on my books very often but i learned how to use what little art and poetry talent i had to earn a few items a week. That and i became a porter for my pod. With my cooking skills from the outside I learned how to make better meals with one or two others that would ask me what to bring, combined with mostly just what i saved from lunch and dinner from my extra trays, than what I would see 5 or more people every night throwing in anything that had and most of the time it become a combination or flavors that didnt work. Just became a pile of much. That why i never went in on a break with mode then 3 other people. I would tudn people away because i didnt want to over do it, plus Iv seem too many times people would say they didnt get enough and the others would say that they put in $4 and the other guy only did $2. So i kept it small and simple. And often because people knew i was a good cook and was one of the few honest guys there, they would often ask me what i wanted or needed to cook with.
