Same! One of my happiest memories was with my little brother, watching SNL in the early 90s, eating ice cream together out of the container. We'd been through a lot of traumatic stuff and these small shared events, the innocence and the laughter, were like little lifelines for us.
Side story, I was a band geek and we did a dance routine to Vogue when I was in high school, and I performed as "Madonna" (I was thoroughly obsessed lol). The act after ours was "Coffee Talk," a pretty good imitation of the sketch by a couple of theater guys I went to high school with. For one of the shows, we decided backstage to have Madonna cameo and join the guys for a minute on the couch, and say some kind of silly blurb before trotting off. The audience loved it, the theater director was not pleased as this had not been rehearsed or approved hehe ... Great times, I love this show and loved this sweet monologue.

What amazes me about Saturday Night Live is the fact that it survived a lot of things that would and should have gotten it canceled years ago, from fan favorite cast members leaving to seasons that were so bad that NBC wanted to pull the plug on the show to behind-the-scenes drama to fickle fans hating the show because "it's not how it used to be" even to shocking world events and changing social norms that make it hard to find humor in anything. And this isn't even getting to all the other sketch shows that were set up as rivals/alternatives to SNL: Fridays, SCTV, Not the Nine O'Clock News, The New Show (which Lorne actually made for ABC), Kids in the Hall, In Living Color, The State, The Ben Stiller Show, and probably the longest-running rival to SNL (and the one a lot of people like more than SNL), MADtv.

I’m 43 and been watching SNL since the 80’s back when it wasn’t no DVR so I caught up on the shows in the 80’s and 90’s I missed. Basically watching every episode, even the ones that were maid b4 I was born. Who remember “Hot Tub”, Colon Blow, Dick in the box.

I completely agree that it's exactly what they were going for. It's always going to tie back into the current popular thing. But gotta say.....I don't think it's JUST that. Like, I still buy it from him, Lasso-reference taken out. I think they got both at once.

I'm actually glad that there wasn't a punchline to the end of that sentiment. Sudekis is such a solid performer. And he's right, when I was a kid, I loved watching this show and I still love it, and its on my bucket list, to see a live taping. Please give me those fancy seats upfront or the nosebleeds, I don't care.

What a great monologue. So much history in that one room, so many classic sketches, comedians, guest hosts, and musicians. It's chilling. Indeed, I was a kid watching from home in the 90's when Nirvana destroyed their instruments, and Aerosmith appeared on Wayne's World, or Farley was Matt Foley. Endless great memories from SNL. With new memories still continuing as an adult now.

I know Jason won't see this, but as someone who has watched the show since season 1, a native of KC (ok, I was a Cougar, not a Viking, but what can you do?), and someone who has wanted to visit 8H all their life, this monologue hit home. Right in the feels. Keep doing what you do.

Love it.❤ My 16 year-old got to see the Jan. 8, 2011 show in person, w/ Jim Carrey hosting & Black Keys as music guest. He loved Jason S. as the guy who warmed up the audience for the dress rehearsal run. Awesome dude.🤗💙
