The Zillertal Railway or Zillertalbahn is a 760 mm (2 ft 5+15⁄16 in) gauge independent railway running along the valley of the river Ziller (Zillertal) in Tyrol, Austria. The 32 kilometres (20 mi) line starts in Jenbach and terminates in Mayrhofen.
In Jenbach the Zillertal Railway meets the ÖBB standard gauge line between Salzburg and Innsbruck and the metre gauge Achensee Railway. Jenbach is the only location in Austria where railways of three different track-gauges meet.
The line was opened on 31 July 1902.

Really very nice. The Tyrolean Zillertal in Austria (well believed and popular by the Germans, who come extensivly like locust-swarms) is a beautiful valley south of the Inntal (Inn-valley). There are also daily steam-locomotive-trains for the tourists from Jenbach to Mayrhofen and vice versa. And the Zillertalbahn is one of the rare narrow-gauge-railways with (partly) two tracks (double tracked).

Examples of narrow-gauge railway networks featuring double-track sections: RhB (super interesting that one of the two tracks between Chur and Domat Ems is double-gauge, standard and narrow, with the narrow-gauge considered as the main line); EAV (Circumvesuviana); Southern Sardinian railways, closed to traffic.

@@RailRelaxation I do not know if you can film on narrow gauge lines. The regulations for most railroads do not allow filming of any kind., I have never seen a video on youtube of a cab view on our railroads. I asked a few crews if I could mount a camera and was told no.

Ja das Zillertal ist eine wunderschöne Region, ich habe dort Urlaub in Mayrhofen gemacht und ein Verwandter wohnt in Stump bei Mayrhofen wir sind auch mit der sehr schönen Zillertalbahn von Hippach nach Mayrhofen gefahren,, ich bedanke mich für dieses schöne Video.

The double track sections are quite spectacular. You don't see many of these on narrow gauge lines elsewhere in the world.

A beautiful ride! But, given that trains run every 30 minutes, why on earth is this line not electrified? And if the line were converted to standard gauge there could be through passenger trains to Innsbruck and perhaps further afield. And all that timber we saw could be taken all over Europe by standard gauge freight trains!

Good evening, I don't see any exchange of tokens between the train driver and the station master or exit signs informing the train driver that he can proceed. Is there perhaps a dispatcher who authorizes the driver or train conductor to proceed in the direction of the next station authorized for crossings?

Die Zillertalbahn hat bis vor ein paar Jahren noch einen
"Kristallwagen" (Barwagen) eingesetzt, der von der Fa. Swarowski gesponsert wurde. Leider ist er jetzt abgestellt in der Fahrzeughalle in Jenbach.😢 Übrigens bin ich in 2 Wochen wieder im Zillertal und fahre wieder von Jenbach bis Mayrhofen (wie seit 22 Jahren).

Es gibt eine zentrale Fahrdienstleitung in Jenbach (nur für die Zillertalbahn, nicht für die ÖBB), von der die ganze Strecke (samt allen Weichen und Signalen) im Zugleitbetrieb gesteuert und überwacht wird. Die Kommunikation erfolgt über Funk. -
There is a central dispatcher in Jenbach (only for the Zillertalbahn, not for the ÖBB), from which the entire route (including all switches and signals) is controlled and monitored in train control operation. Communication takes place via radio.

In any case, along the route I don't notice any luminous railway signs of an automatic electric block or an axle-counter block, but only the legendary Trapeztafel. Im Zillertalbahnhof in Jenbach gibt es ein Einfahr- und ein Gruppenausfahrsignal (rotes und grünes Licht); diese sind im Moment aber nicht in Betrieb. Die anderen Bahnhöfe haben zum Teil schon und bekommen noch alle zusätzliche Ausfahrsignale (Schutzsignale) mit einem roten und zwei vertikalen weißen Lichtern (sehr gut zu sehen zB in min 07:18 in Strass und in min 43:48 in Ramsau). Die Distanzsignale vor den Bahnhöfen mit einem orangen Licht zeigen an, ob alle Weichen in der Endlage sind und die Zugfahrstraße eingestellt ist. Die Weichensignale mit weißen Lichtern zeigen die Stellung der Weichen an (zu sehen in allen Bahnhöfen). Die blinkenden weiß-blauen Lichter zeigen, daß die Eisenbahnkreuzungs-Signal- und -Schrankenanlagen korrekt arbeiten.Die Triebfahrzeigführer bekommen ihre Anweisungen per Funk. -
At the Zillertal train station in Jenbach there is an entry and a group exit signal (red and green light); but these are not in operation at the moment. The other train stations already have some additional exit signals (protective signals) with one red and two vertical white lights (very easy to see, for example, at 07:18 min in Strass and at 43:48 min in Ramsau). The distance signals in front of the stations with an orange light indicate whether all switches are in the correct end position and the train route is set. The switch signals with white lights indicate the position of the switches (can be seen in all stations). The flashing white and blue lights show that the railway crossing signaling and barrier systems are working correctly. The train drivers receive their instructions via radio.
