  • Tampere from above!
Relieve some stress by exploring one of the most beautiful cities in Finland from the bird's-eye perspective of a drone.
Today we're flying over the most populous inland city in the Nordic countries, Tampere (Tammerfors in Swedish)! Join me in discovering the beauty of the city architecture, its two lakes (Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi), and the famous rapids linking them that have served as power source throughout history.
Our flight will begin on the eastern side of the rail tracks, taking a look at the Hotel Torni Tampere (2014 - 88.5m/290ft). Very close to it we'll spot the construction work on the new Tampere Arena (Uros Live), which will host hockey games, offices, commercial development, housing, hotel, and casino. After a brief look at the Tampere Hall (Tampere talo - which holds the Moomin Museum, concerts, and congresses), and the main building of the University of Tampere; we'll cross the tracks to observe the Train Station from up close - with its brick walls welcoming you to this old industrial city.
Hämeenkatu will be teased as we fly near Stockmann on our way to the Cathedral (1907 - 64m/209ft), and the firefighter station - whose unusual tower won't leave you indifferent. We'll go back to the southern part of the Tammerkoski prior to flying north again to explore the dams, Finlayson's palace, and the Milavida Museum. Soon after, the bright colors of Särkänniemi amusement park will welcome us as we focus on the rides. Due to the heavy winds, we won't be able to climb to the top of Näsinneula Observation Tower (1971 - 167.9m/550ft), which is the tallest free-standing structure in Finland and the tallest observation tower in the Nordic countries; and also hosts a revolving restaurant.
We'll still see Näsinneula in the background as we circle above Amuri Workers' Museum Quarter and follow Hämeenpuisto south towards Alexander Church (1881). I hope you enjoy the architecture of the Swedish school (Tampereen ruotsinkielinen yhteiskoulu - Koulukatu 14), the yellow building with the vane on top. Soon we'll reach one of the iconic landmarks of Tampere, the Pyynikki Observation Tower (1929 - 26m/85ft), which stands 75m/246ft above the level of the adjacent lake Pyhäjärvi and has great views of the city. It's located in the heart of a great forest that locals love to visit.
Next, we'll go back to the city's heart: the rapids and the central square. We'll squeeze between the Finlayson and Tampella factories, fly above the waterfall, and circle around the chimney of G Livelab as we enjoy the views. The central square, Keskustori, features the City Hall (1890), Tampere Theatre (1913), the Old Church (1825), Laikku Culture House (1925), the Sumelius House (1901) and other exciting buildings. However, the building that won't go unnoticed is the Tampere Central Library (Metso, 1986) featuring an exterior made of granite, wiborgite, copper, and glass. We couldn't leave Tampere without visiting the Ratina stadium and mall, the suspension bridge, and the Orthodox Church of Alexander Nevalainen and St. Nicholas - a true jewel of the city.
As a bonus, we'll take a look at the Vehoniemi Observation tower, located less than 30 mins away from Tampere and which offers an amazing view of Roine lake. Next door there's a car museum, which makes this area a great excuse to explore nature near Tampere.
Hopefully, after our short flight, you'll want to visit Tampere again and enjoy the refreshing atmosphere of a city enclosed between lakes, a gorgeous mix of industrial and modern buildings, and the charming hospitality of the locals.
If you're curious about Helsinki neighborhoods and other breathtaking towns, don't forget to subscribe!
Now sit back, relax, and enjoy our flight together. Tervetuloa!

Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately longer, slower videos have lower viewer retention, that's why I try to increase the pace. It's a shame it wasn't of your taste

For me personaly and thats only now my oppinion finland looks much more Russian to me then other scandinavien countries. Also the houses the colours dont fit together and in general i find the architecture style of the buildings quite boring and simple. In overall and i have been myself many times in tampere, Helsinki and other places i find the generell lookings of the buildings and infrastructure cold and depressing. Also many areas look kinda poor to me. The nature with the forests and many lakes and small rivers and in generell being free in nature is really nice. But again there the nature is nice but everywear you go in finland this kind of nature looks everywear the same and has the same looking so also that gets at some point kinda boring. Anyway no hate just my view of finland. I personaly like the looking of norway and sweden more as they have for me more this typical scandinavien lookings. What i miss tho in finland strongly is american diners, pancho, hook and all these american type restaurants.
