34:56 I wholeheartedly agree. Powerful monocolored cards should have more pips to justify their power level and feel more rewarding to play. Imagine if Rhystic Study was (U)(U)(U)? It would be played significantly less but would still be a major problem to deal with in the decks that can commit to triple blue.
I don't disagree with your point, but...Rhystic Study is a bad example. No one *knew* it was going to be as good as it was when it first came out. And it really, really *wasn't* in 60-card Standard at the time. It was considered limited trash, saddled with the Rhystic mechanic that everyone at the time HATED. It *only* became the problem we know today because it turned out to be exceptionally effective in multiplayer.
I don't think it would really change much. We have so much color fixing I think you could still safely play cards like tribute in multi color decks. And rhystic study is so good it would definitely still be played.
@@SuperDeathclaws The color pips drastically affect what you can play on the first couple of turns. A rushed out Rhystic Study, for instance, becomes much more difficult to accomplish with double to triple pips.
16:00 Yes, I agree that backup is a fantastic mechanic; in fact, I feel like it's the solution for attack-based strategies to give haste in colors that don't have practical ways to get haste.

If I had to design a card for my Hinata deck, I couldnt have done better than Invasion of Segovia. It flips off one hit from the evasive hinata, it gives you tons of mana advantage even netting mana the turn you play it, and it gives you all of the bodies to take advantage of the untap clause. This card is just so nutty.
I am building a Rocco deck right now and so many of the cards mentioned would work great, it feels like this episode was made for me!

The talk about cankerbloom and muldrotha was a really good one. I've had the same thing in my meren deck where I've realised I have like 5 disenchant effects which is just too many. And in muldrotha specifically you want to vary the permanent types of those effects. You could for example run cankerbloom, seal of primordium and haywire mite. That way you're covering creature artifact and enchantment

I actually run both All Will Be One and Everlasting Torment in my Scorpion God combo deck and it never occurred to me that I can combo them. I'll have to keep that in mind next time I play that deck
I put Guardian Scalelord in my Minthara deck and it's a perfect fit. The backup let's me put a +1 counter on Minthara to proliferate, and then she can bring something back with her massive power. Scalelord repeatedly gets back the permanents I sacrifice to get her Experience Counter trigger, and he just keeps getting bigger, letting you get really expensive stuff out of the grave every turn.
If I had to design an EDHRECast episode as someone who likes +1/+1 counters, this would be it.

Conclave Sledge-Captain is also the funniest card in the world in any red-green deck where you have good access to double strike. The first time I played one in my Chishiro deck I dropped it on a dinky little lizard blades, turned it from a 1/1 to a 10/10 thanks to counter boosters, hit a player for 10 to become a 40/40, killed them and became a 160/160, and I ran out of space on the card to keep adding dice.

Tribute to the World Tree and Kami of Whispered Hopes both made it into my Kodama of the West Tree +1/+1 counters deck. Tribute is amazing with my X-Cost creatures as I can use it to support refiling my boardstate after a wipe by effectively using it as a cost reducer to cheaply pump out a bunch of Modified 3/3s as I only have to pay 1 for the X in addition to the draw from when I pay more for my bigger beasties. Tribute has been an absolute workhorse already and with that beautiful art is already one of my new favourite cards!
For All Will Be One, you can also trigger it off of planeswalkers for that extra bit of gravy
See Double is an absolute bomb this year as well.
I can confirm that giving Convoke to a random X spell is silly. I played a convoked Secure the Wastes for X=19 while also triggering Fallowsage, Kasla, and Wildfire Awakener tokens.

Guardian Scalelord is really good in decks that consistently put counters on your stuff. I run it in a Nils, Discipline Enforcer deck and it’s awesome. I love having basically 2 Sun Titans in the deck

Theres also another common i forget what its called its a two drop red deal three to any target i believe but you also MAY put a card from your hand on the bottom of your deck and draw. I put that in a few decks
Honestly both Sunscorch Regent and Guardian Scalelord are GREAT for an Azorius Flyers deck too. Put in Ishai, both of those, maybe Pride of the Clouds and Skycat Sovereign and you'll have some beefier creatures while your others can have big group buffs and utilities.
I remember just back in probably mid March I went up to visit a friend near DC and I figured we'd check out a local game shop just for fun because I had just gotten into Magic back in February or so. No lie, I bought one Phyrexia All Will Be One pack and one Dominaria Remastered pack and got a full art alt art whatever it is foil Mondrak and then a full alt art Force of Will. I looked up the prices and was like "WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!" how did I get THAT lucky. Mondrak of course went into my Azorius tokens pillowfort deck but Force of Will is still looking for a home...I need a legit Blue deck so I can guarantee I can actually have a Blue card that I not only feel OK exiling but also having one in my hand to begin with rather than mostly White.
And yeah the Convoke cards coming out recently are GREAT for my tokens deck. Wand of the Worldsoul, Flockchaser Phantom, Invasion of Segovia/Tyrant of Segovia. Just perfect and fun cards too. Another GREAT card for token decks that came out is also Nesting Dovehawk. It Populates at the beginning of combat on your turn (so you create a copy of ANY token on your side) and WHENEVER a token ETBs under your control, it gets a 1/1 counter. Flying. 2/2. 3 colorless 1 white.
I can't wait to cast Breach the Multiverse in my Haunt of Hightower deck.
Also, Clever Concealment is great. It reminds me of another relatively newer card that came out in Strixhaven called Semester's End. Instead of phasing out, you just exile them until the end step. The only downside is that it only saves creatures and Planeswalkers. But if you run a creature-centric deck, it's another card to consider.

for the record, staff of the storyteller is more narrow since it only activates on creature tokens. Idol of Oblivion activates on stuff like treasure, ironically (or perhaps intentionally) incubator tokens, or my personal favorite, rocks.

kami of wispered hopes is amazing, and i would like too at least mention it came in the same set as "Ozolith, the shattered spire". A 2 mana hardened scales as an artifact.

I put tribute to the world tree in my angry omnath deck and it did so much work. Zendekar's roil was pooping out 4/4's and my 5/5's we're drawing me so many cards.

Breach the multiverse is one of the best cards you can get for hidetsugu and kairi!!!! I'm running it right now and it's so fun!!!!

Eldraine will possibly be the first display I buy....
I am not happy that there is no saying, that we get magic version reprint cards of all the universes beyond stuff. But on the other side that way I can keep my money better for eldraine. 😅
But I do want a magic version from out of the tombs. That card design is so cool and I want to through it into muldrotha and possible other coming selfmill decks, but the border keeps me from it. 😢

All will be one requires you to be the one who puts the counters. So it wouldnt work with wither countets you did not create i think. Like opponents creatures clashing wouldnt trigger AWBO.

My partner has a Lord Xander Mill deck and god with Breach the Multiverse it just ruins our table, geting to pick from half of someones deck is so much
Cankerbloom and Rec sage cost the exact same amount to get the effect. Replacing one over the other doesnt matter

I love staff of the storyteller but I can't see how it's better thsn idol of oblivion. Adding one mana to the draw ability is a huge deal, it makes your rate from drawing cards go from 3 mana 1, 2 mana 4, etc. Compare this to just two mana draw a card typically once a turn until it is removed

Staff of the Storyeller is great, but definitely not better than Idol of Oblivion. 1 mana to draw a card is infinitely more than 0 mana to draw a card. Also it doesn't work with non-creature tokens, Idol is great in decks that are making artifact tokens every turn like Osgir and Tivit.
I think it's weird to build your deck for a specific power level and then get excited when new cards make your deck more powerful.

It’s not a great card in general, but it also works with Quest for True Flame, which costs just one Red mana.
