I visited this facility on a sales call yesterday with the maintenance department. Most amazing thing I've ever seen to date. I used to drive a 379 extended hood years and years ago and they still make them, but upgraded model to 389. They still have the first truck they built along with a completely refurbished ole 39. I agree these trucks are really nice, I like the old school stuff. With the need on increasing fuel economy and making the trucks easier to ride in day after day, these changes are all necessary. Super clean place and they have it together. Great bunch of people at PACCAR and it started with meeting the receptionist. Super sweet lady and highly professional. Can't wait to go back. Going to dress like the assemblers so I can blend in with the crowd and just roam around in there all day. haha. This place is off the chain impressive. Go Pete!!

I call em the disposable trucks. Not to forget the electrical problems.... The Cummins was the better one but still super noisy inside and don’t you dare get the automatic one. That Allison transmission is dangerous it upshifts going up steep hills with heavy loads... it almost made the engine lose all its power going up the hill. Peterbilt is my all time favorite truck, but I would much rather have an old school long nose or cabover. Last week one of our contract drivers was hit head on by a drunk driver, he had an older long nose with a big chrome bumper and just suffered minor damage, if it had been a newer truck It would have been totaled. The trucks they are building today might be more comfortable, but they aren't real trucks, but rather oversized cars. If you want a real truck, buy a 70s or 80s.

I sure would like to meet the engineers that design these rolling piece of junk trucks that last for a few thousand miles and replacement parts must have gold or diamonds in them and special tools needed to remove and replace those high priced parts plus the technicians that don't have a clue on how to properly diagnose the problem. Boy, good job Einstein , you've absolutely just about killed the trucking industry

Funny thing, they never tested the handling of the trucks while driving with a crosswind. My experience ,the more aerodynamic the truck , the poorer the handling in crosswinds. Also poorer windshield wiper performance.
