When Paul was using Hill Descent Control, he said on a number of occasions that he applied the brake pedal; as the foot brake operates on all 4 wheels, it overrides Hill Descent Control which uses the ETC (Electronic Traction Control) sensors to sense a gain in speed, and then randomly applies individual brakes to control, or 'manage' the descent speed of the vehicle!
Given that Ford acquired this technology during their ownership of Land Rover, it may be that the driver can adjust the descent speed by using the +/- buttons on the Cruise Controls, if Cruise Control is fitted to the Ranger!

If you're a ute buyer, seems anything you choose will serve you well. Ranger styling is aging well. Utes aren't car like, but isn't that the point? Am I the only one who doesn't watch the Infotainment section? The rear seat packaging is surprising - always assumed the Ranger was significantly larger. Not necessarily inside.
As to the review, the consistency of each section makes comparisons with other vehicles so much easier. Very professional and easy to watch.
I really like the idea of the durometer test. Having a definite number is much better than "oh its soft" or "oh its hard" lol. How about a decibel test in future reviews?
Sound level test on the highway or something would be GENIUS

Had I mind set on the DMUX , but with 6months delay on supply now, have moved to new BT50. Took the Ranger XLT 2.0 TTD for a spin this morning. The Ranger range is definitely smoother ride and quieter , than sound , I am going to drive the 3.2l tomorrow to compare engine noise. Everything mentioned regarding the 2.0 TTD a in video is valid. One thing I noted was the 10 speed down changing when braking is noticeable at the very last few meters of stopping , thought initially it was the brakes shuddering? Overall is a great vehicle , just looking a bit dated internal and external for 2021 , note I was driving a 21.25

Any details on upgrades etc for the 2021 Wildtrak. I’m hearing there could be a few exterior changes for the 2021 Wildtrak before the all new model comes for 2022. Can’t get any info yet.
Apparently the AT22 tyres are almost dangerous in the wet per tyre review. I have AT20 which I find are quite nice actually. Each time I hear the Durometer I think of a tool to measure durability!

I recently sold my 2016 Wildtrak and it was the best Ute I have ever owned. I am hoping that there will be a petrol option in the new Ranger as I do lots of short trip urban driving and few highway trips or towing and a nice Ecoboost 4 cylinder or V6 petrol would be my preferred power plant
I doubt you will see that, petrol is such a low volume seller on large utes and with low ash diesel available, there's not much point.
Hey mate, when you use the + or - in drive. It doesn’t actually change gears. It limits the top gear it will let the gearbox shift into. That’s why when you click them minus button the gear numbers disappear and that will the max gear it will shift into

it will change gear if your in a higher gear and hit the minus button, it will change down. say your in 6th gear and you click it down to 5th gear it will change down.
So far I prefer the D-Max. The new Ranger looks bloody nice, I hope they can compete with equipment and price.
Still the best in class. Can’t wait to see the next generation Ranger.
I think you are mistaking this for the Hilux champ. Easily outselling and outperforming the Ford.

The 2021 XLT looks different to that in the video. Ive got an MY19 that looks same but just purchased a 21.25 today in Melbourne. Changes include different grill and change in dash cluster...
Yep sorry about that - there are those minor changes but outside of that it’s the same as this one in the video.

good review mine comes in 2 weeks been waiting 2 1/2 months, has more than enough power my son has a 2019 hilux with a tune snorkel and k&n filter it will keep up with that no problems they don't need a v6 engine i think its over kill
The 3.2 isn't a six , it's a inline 5, developed by Volvo, while under Ford's ownership, Volvo are masters at balancing these engines, having made fives for years.

Not having reach adjustment on the wheel is a bummer. The seat only goes so far back and my elbows feel awkward so bent. Even my transit had reach adjustment! Would have expected to see that as an improvement but hey ho maybe 2022 then.

No option for blind spot in any Ranger models currently. Interested to know what build plate the one that you tested as I just bought a 20.75 September build and mine doesn’t have the aircon vent in the centre console.

Picked up the 21 xlt last week. Disappointed about the cluster, fuel cap and Aircon... no word from Ford that these things would be changed (and in my opinion downgraded). Still a great drive but this video maybe needs an update 🤷🏼

As for what to buy. I have been looking at getting a Ranger for a while now. And they have improved it with the Bi-Turbo engine and 10 speed auto.
But now that Isuzu has really picked up their game I am a little torn between the Ranger and the DMAX to be completely honest.
Compare the power, torque, engine and transmission refinement, performance, smoothness, economy. There's only one winner and it doesn't have an archaic six speed transmission.

It only 'needs' a 3 speed. I remember the Ford Zephyr6 that my grandfather ran that would go up hills in top gear that modern five speed cars struggle in 3rd. You miss the point completely. You will hardly find an engine with a wider torque band than the Ford 2.0 twin-turbo which produces maximum torque from 2200 down to 1500 rpm and it doesn't drop off a cliff until about 1200 rpm. The aim of a higher number of ratios is to aid acceleration, have a lower first gear ratio and a higher top gear ratio while holding the engine as near as possible to its most efficient revs, which is where it produces peak torque with some reserve for overload. At between 1500 and 1800 rpm for as much as possible.
For towing it also closes gaps in the ratios when pulling hard uphill so, for instance, the engine does not need to rev to 3000 or more in second or lug fully at less than 1500 before downshifting once more and rev up to 3000 for long periods.

@@hedydd2 That's not a wide torque band, chief. Of course a higher amount of ratios is going to assist with acceleration... for an engine with a narrow torque band. The 10 speed is a band aid solution to keep the engine spinning in the meaty part of the torque curve. You say that the 2.0 twin-turbo produces maximum torque from 1500-2200rpm? The specs say 500Nm at 1750-2000rpm. Not sure where you're getting your information from? Take for example the new 4JJ3-TCX 3.0L turbo engine in the new Isuzu D-max and Mazda BT-50, which makes maximum torque from 1600-2600rpm. It comfortably makes do with a 6 speed transmission and pulls like a train.
@@JDMEVOVIGSR Lots of engines have a wide torque band. Lots of manufactures ‘make do’ with what they can get away with. There is no question whatsoever that more ratios are better for refinement, performance and fuel economy when all other things are equal. You are just burying your head in the sand by denying that the Isuzu and the Mazda both would be far better if they were fitted with the available and proven eight speed Aisin Warner transmission rather than the six speed. No doubt the brand makes a claim for the new fitting of the six speed being superior to the prior five speed and I have no doubt whatsoever that in future, when they inevitably do fit the eight speed, that they will make much bigger and louder claims of very significant advantages in all the areas I’ve covered. I believe Ford deserves massive acclaim for jumping from the six speed they have used for nearly ten years in Ranger, directly to a ten speed box. I would have been more than pleased if they had upgraded to an eight speed, many examples of which I have owned and driven an know from experience how much better than five or six speeds it is. I’ve also driven the ten speed in a Ranger and it is superb. Leagues ahead of any six speed including the Aisin W behind a 3.0 V6 turbo diesel.

@@RD11RT Raptor is still fairly new, but seems to be around 1 litre per hundred less than the XLT (it's pre DPF, apparently that made them worse too)

Hill decent is brilliant on the Ranger, trust it and keep your foot off the brake and you be surprised how good it is.
Calling it the "Big Mac of utes" isn't saying much. Some of us who might think the "Big Mac" is a bit disappointing, and would much rather go for an "Ultmate Double Whopper" instead.
How did you drop the back seat?
Why do you wiggle the center arm rest when it’s open? Obviously it’s going to wiggle, you need to wiggle it when it’s closed shut as that’s the position it will be in when you drive.
Interesting that the AU Ranger gets LED headlights but halogen tailights on the XLT, while the US XLT ranger gets Halogen Headlights but LED taillights

If only the reliability was as good as the test drive. We loved how our Rangers drove. We loved their features, their comfy seats, their power/performance. But the reliability was horrendous and proved incapable for use as a business vehicle. We had multiple Ranger's bought-back from Ford due to major issues in the same year! If Ford could pick up their QA process, I'd buy another, but till then, we'll not be returning to the Ford badge.
ford lose connection to apple CarPlay from time to time. I have to restart both the car and my iPhone every time connection is lost. dont know if it is an CarPlay thing or ford central control system issue.

That’s right. Ranger won’t sell good in US cause there’s alot of competition out here like the Tacoma and Colorado. In other country like Asia, ranger is the number one pick up truck out there.
@@adventurek2066 Ranger currently sells really well here in the US. It usually makes it in the top 3. Last year it was the second best seller here.
I am pretty sure the new Hilux only has LED tailights and brake lights at the rear. The turn signals and reverse lights are still incandescent...

Yes, Ford has seen off Toyota by addressing the fact that with Hilux they have rested on being the top seller for many years, so not felt the need for updates.

Nice video but outdated pickup. Also the L200 has the outer looks and great off road capabilities, but missing on the interior. I'm getting a Hilux.
In the 90s Ford was notorious for stripping vehicles of all safety and comfort when they sold them in Australia - so much so I wrote a few letters to the Editor in local Newspapers that why Ford officials thought Aussies were expendables! The same vehicle that came here without safety gear was fully loaded up with safety per standards of the day in Europe. Looks like they started that trick again- huge profits from building in Thailand still not enough- make people pay for things that are standard on other vehicles at upto $5000 cheaper price might I add.
No reach adjustment on steering wheel? As someone with long legs and shortish arms that is definitely a deal breaker for me. Interesting that every other dual cab has that feature.

How can ford claim 7.4L per 100km when its really using 10.3L? How accurate are those computers? Shouldnt you just fill the tank to the top and drive a while then refill and see how many km you travelled to get the real fuel usage?

I can tell you first hand the 2.0L drinks, 10L-11L is the norm, but get a bit playful with the throttle and you'll push 13l-14L. Don't even talk to me about towing, if your considering a tow touring vehicle look elsewhere, may as well buy a v8 land cruiser ..

Just goes to show, don’t bother putting tiny engines in heavy cars. I think Ford is waking up to that, as the F250 just got a 7.3 V8 petrol, F150 will get a 6.8 V8 petrol, and the Ranger will get a 3.0 V6 diesel.
mine has averaged over 20000km, 9.1kph, thats with a canopy and draws full of tools. its a great ute, sits just under 1500rpm @100kphand is very comfortable.

Correct, I was in at my local Ford dealer this morning. I have the 21.25 spec sheet, Interesting to note . 1 Front side door acoustic glass, no longer available, Saleman states 3rd sourcing issues. 2 instrument cluster is only 1 x 4.2”
With the U.S had the diesel option for us.

I bought a Ranger sport, had it for a week before I realised it had been leaking oil since new. Took it back and got it fixed. Next week I had a coolant leak, they fixed that and told me I also had a problem with the air con. Then they said the engine needed replacing. After 1000kms!!!!! Now I am waiting for them to “approve” a replacement vehicle. Like they think they have an option. Taking their time. No one rushing to tell me how thing will happen. I now hate Ford. Customer service is non existent from head office. I’m soooo angry

I owned 11 holdens in my life and two weeks ago finally swapped from my Colorado to a Ranger. The Colorado was the most reliable car I have ever owned only requiring a single hose and a door switched replacing in 270+kms, the Ranger was back to the dealer within 5 days with a huge oil leak, then the 2nd week (this week) it had a coolant leak,. They fixed it and then told me there was another leak and also said the engine needs replacing. After spending $55k I am now stuck with a shitty loan car that I cannot fit any parts to so I can do my job. Ford Customer service I believe is an Indian call center, unless they only hire Indian workers and give them scripts to read. I am so depressed about this.

i don't get how they are so popular, I've driven a few of them and they were not great, i prefer my 2007 ranger at least compared to the 3.2
Gone are the days of bulletproof Diesel engines. 2 turbos working hard to get a 2lt donk to just enough power. And it still has lag?
A better wheel design would've been stellar
The seats in the XLT aren't as plush as the Wildtrak.
