Done this several times many moons ago. Was mostly looking for any new ideas for removing the lock ring clip (in the past, I just used two small screwdrivers). Think I need a sturdier pick, but my flimsy one did the trick. Mostly wanted to thank you for the clear pictures and clear, simple speech. Too many people try to sound smart with big words. Thanks!
Thanks for this, I had a lot more confidence undertaking what I believed would be a rather daunting task. The only things that I would add is that tying some string/twine to the outgoing harness can help to change the angle for pulling it up the column (instead of cutting it off), then you can use that string to fish the new harness back down the column. And for anyone who doesn't know, steering wheel pullers are available for loan (deposit req'd) at O'Reilly's.
Glad I stumbled onto this video. I was able to replace the turn signal switch on my '81 CJ7 in less time than it took to watch the video. The retention clip/ring was somewhat of a bugger, but I finally got it. Outstanding tutorial.

Prolly the best GM style steering column video I've seen, Jeep or Chevy. Nice shortcut at the wiring connector. I tied a piece of fishing line to the cut wires when removing the switch, and used it to guide the new wires back down the column. Good job Man.

Thank you SO MUCH for making this video. I referenced this video on a 1984 Jeep CJ7 I just did. I had to make a custom tool to get that clip ring off/on but thanks to you I new what I was in for when I got into the column. Install went perfect.

As your pulling the old wire you cut, you could always tape on a pull wire to go up with them . Then you can use that to help pull the new wires and connector back down through. Also will work smoothly if you can borrow someone for a minute to help on the other end to finesse the wires and connection through. Thanks for the very thorough and great video.

I received my new signal cam today from summit but didn't realize that the horn wire was not part of it, and yours had tape on it, so I'm not sure what to do.

Great video very helpful, I installed per instructions, still having a problem the blinkers worked for a little while then stopped I have new flashers but nothing what is strange is that if the blinker is connected under dash the parking lights stay on, is there a way to test the blinker switch?
I have a stock jeep with original steering wheel. Will I need the steering wheel removal tool or only the lock plate removal tool? Thanks in advance! Great video really going to help me out.
You will most likely need both tools, however some of the wheels can simply be pulled off if they weren't bolted on tight in the first place. Both tools are relatively inexpensive, and your local auto part store may even have them available for rent or loan.

Hello. How long did this turn signal replacement take from start to finish?
Wow. I am sorry for the delayed response. I have comments set to review, and completely forgot. If this is your first time doing this, and you have all the tools you need, it should take you less than 45 minutes. It's relatively simple, and all the things you need to do are easy to get to. If you can, pull the front drivers seat out, it should be in the floor with (4) 9/16 bolts. I have found it makes it easier to get under the dash, and also gives you a place to set all the tools and parts you are working with.
Is there any reason why I wouldn’t be able unplug the harness, plug in the new harness BEFORE disassembling the column to test if the problem with the signal is this part?
Absolutely. I do that occasionally to troubleshoot issues.
I'm not super technically minded when you say don't tilt column do you mean don't move it?
I'm sorry for the delayed response. Correct, don't move the column up or down. So if you have a second arm coming out the side, and when you pull it it lets the steering wheel go up and down, you don't want to touch that during the process.
