- Lost ignition key for 87 Jeep Wrangler which uses a standard GM column. These require "tear down" to remove ignition & make key or replace with new.
Don't do these often anymore ;)
Lots of negative comments for the best video I could find. I had lost key and this saved me a ton. Everything for my 93 was the same except for actually extracting the cylinder. On 91 to 93 you have to push a screwdriver in towards rear of cylinder to get it to release. Thanks a lot
Kris Kile thanks for the good comment :) we gave up long ago on worrying over this one, it will always live on as one of our most viewed & hated videos lol 😂 glad you got it!
Thank you! Our 94 4 banger YJ needed the multi wiper switch replaced. Tried to replace from the top. Impossible, removing the steering column was easier than I thought. Screws in the inside pointing up held the parts together. Only way to get to it was to remove the steering column $163 switch at Orilies. The first switch we got $100, but didn't fit. There are 3 switches for this year. Of course the one I need is the most expense.. sigh.
Jason that was a good video, I didn't realize how difficult it can be to get into an ignition lock.
Just completed a similar repair and this video helped me place the two contact assembly next to the lock retaining screw.
Thanks so much for the assistance.
Wow..I would probably charge more than that Jeep is worth to do this job Jason. Thanks for making a how to just in case video though!
Holy cow, I was not looking forward to this much work! Very good video, this will make it much easier!
It’s like a half an hour. Not a lot of work
@@fishhuntadventure knowing is half the battle right?
Ñññ
Great lighting, jeeze
Nice I got to do this on a buddies 87jeep hopefully I can do it in daylight without my headlamp! thanks for the tutorial!
I have two suggestions one is to invest in a light the other is to find a friend. Although I got the gist of what you were saying it would have made the video that much better
Dave Labine I never thought this video would pull in the views it did. It was a spur of the moment video during regular work hours. One day, whenever a customer needs it again I vow to do better ;)
This helped a ton, thank you for making it!
horn blowy thingy... and a wrech,....... which was a ratchet. sounds like your a pro
ABSOLUTELY!
Thank you for the video. My bolt hole is stripped on one side. Any suggestions?
Thanks for doing this video as now I am remembering the trouble I will have redoing my AMC Eagle wheel...... :-/
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It helped me tremendously.
I know this video was done a while ago but the tilt is broke on my 87 Jeep Wrangler yj. Any videos on that procedure. Thanks.
What's that pushy-downer-thingy really called? Where can I get one?
I think most auto parts places have them www.autozone.com/loan-a-tools/steering-wheel-lock-plate/oem-steering-wheel-lock-plate-remover/112102_0_0
I have a 94 country but everything is the same ,im having issues with the horn got everything else fixed but no horn button i bought one online but no sound. I can hear the relay but i guess next is just testing the horn itself
that Jeep is the same age as me!
My dad would’ve made me hold the flashlight. You talked some sense into me. I went and bought the retaining clip removal tool. Thank you for the great video.
Sweet video. I'm in the process of replacing my steering shaft on my 80 CJ7. As I was tapping the new steering shaft onto the spine in the steering column....the whole steering shaft inside the column moved inside towards the steering wheel?? Any idea on how i can get the steering column shaft back out?
Someone please send this man a GoPro..
this man has several now. 4 years later. but people can feel free to send more 🤷♂️
Have you ever replaced the bearing that is at the top of the steering shaft? The one right underneath the turn signal assembly.
I have not, sorry! If it doesn’t involve the key cylinder part it wasn’t my problem :)
That's not a fun time. At all.
I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler and the turn signal rod broke off inside of it if I take the steering wheel apart down to this point could I get the rest of the metal rod out and replace it or do I need to buy a whole new box for it
Thx for this
video bounced around so much I was getting seasick.
carl karlberg that's just terrible! I would demand a refund if I were you!!
Sorry, didn't mean to be so negative. Just wished the camera was steady on the steering wheel as you talked. It still helped what I wanted to know.
carl karlberg it was a relatively unexpected video to film & I wasn't as prepared as I would have liked to have been (lighting, etc) Thanks for watching anyway :)
Me too
I watched this video thinking you were changing the ignition switch not just the tumbler and key. Good video for what it was but man do you need lights.
Why don't you guys get a helper to hold the camera for you? Or set it up on a tripod?
You need to hold your phone steady when you film videos. So people don't get sick when they watch them.
I cannot agree more
Yes
Side Project Yes
ARE YOU SERIOUS! NEXT TIME YOU MAKE A VIDEO CONSIDER DOING IN THE DAY TIME. UNREAL.
lol another “dumbest comment” submission, thanks!
What do you do to get it to start?
I cant get the horn assemblyback on without it honking constantly.
You can unplug the horn, there's a little wire that hooks on to it that you can take off
Your video was awesome but where’s the light????
Mike Perry on the fly video dark garage. Here is the same thing though czcams.com/video/eHprhx-rPdQ/video.html
Why in the dark?
CB seriously? You don’t always get to pick where this gets done
Your Tool Box, Needs Some Attention!!...Notice On Switch Assembly, NO Wires!!!
uhhh ok …
missed half of with the camera looking elsewhere. it got me seasick
Michael Giovingo demand a friggin refund bro
I can’t see nothing
should have put the password in
It could have been better, with more lighting and a steady camera. Though did get some use out of it.
working conditions aren’t always ideal 🤷♂️
You should be beaten for calling it a wrangler,
That, and 13:30...
since I have, need, and use various SK snap ring, lock ring, and c-clip pliers, why not use them on this? :)
.
Let me guess. Horrible video and you want a refund? K then
that was pitiful vidio
You’re welcome!
Dude. If you can't hold the camera better than that, get someone to hold it for you. Watching this in full screen mode is nauseating. Thanks for the instructions, though.
