0:05 The "bodywork" and other work were done by the customer.
0:30 Read the instructions when installing aftermarket parts, but from what I've seen steering stabilizers have to be connected to the outer tie rod ends on the one end.
0:41 Easy fix! Why it's important to read your owner's manual.
0:51 You need a special tool to do these water pumps. However, they think it might have been the customer as "another shop" could have rented the tool, used it from elsewhere or already have it. Looks like it was the customer who did the work.
1:11 Did they buy it blindfolded? Looks like a terrible auction car.
1:20 6.4L badge but has a 3.6L under the hood.
1:26 Hopefully the customer gets the repairs done soon as it looks like the ball joints are ready to come apart if the customer had put rags around them.
    1:36 No extra info.
1:48 Looks like a rodent was chewing up the wiring harness its so bad. Not sure what the customer was trying to do but that's an expensive fix.
1:58 Not sure if it was the customer or a body shop who did this work. The crash bar should be connected to the frame rail, so whoever did this is trying to hide a lot of damage.
2:11 The most impressive rear differential damage we have seen. On a Subaru.
2:20 Maybe the customer had a friend pull a prank on him?
    2:28 No extra info.
    2:38 No extra info.
2:53 Parts guy was going to put some parts in a customer's car for them. He was okay!

i once had a neighbor, a quite pretty blonde actually, who said her new car kept stopping and would not restart. She told me that several times it had stopped, but she called a mechanic who got it going again. One day it conked out right in front of my house, so I offered to get it going again. I got in the driver's seat, turned the key and noticed the fuel gauge didn't move off the peg, but various lights came on. I got a length of electrical cable and poked it down through the filler tube - it came out completely dry.
I explained to her that every few hundred kilometres she needed to buy gasoline, and she should do this when the gauge shows near empty.
Later, I heard her and her husband have an almighty row. I don't know what exactly, but it had something to do with the car stopping.

      @ColonelSandersLite Před 3 měsíci +11

@@amandahugankiss4110 This used to be a *lot* more common than it is today, though the work was usually better than this. There's 4 main reasons that I can think of, though I'm really not too sure that any of them apply here.
One of the big ones is to get around import fees. Importing a car has certain rules and fees associated with it. Cars that are cut in half are just scrap metal or parts though and that has a totally different set of rules and fees. People used to cut a car in half, import it, and weld it back together. It's totally illegal in most countries though.
Some guys working in junkyards had a profitable little side hustle doing this with nicer, but not super rare cars. Car A comes into the junkyard with a totaled front end. Car B comes in with a totaled rear end. Cut them both in half and mate weld the two ends together. This ties into the next one which is -
Crime. It's even more profitable if you have a stolen car to work with. Car A comes into the junkyard with a totaled front end. Car B comes in with a totaled rear end. Car C is stolen. Cut the bad ends off of A and B. Cut C in half. C donates to A and B. You have two 'legal' cars for the price of two junked cars and a stolen car.
The last one I can think of is reealllllllllyyy niche. That's dealing with things that you're not supposed to be able to buy at all, but people want. A good example is the M151 jeep (not the willys family). The us gov said that their tendency to rollover made them too dangerous to sell as surplus. So they would sell them as scrap on the condition they got cut in half. Some enterprising individuals welded some back together. In fact, they welded quite a few of them back together. I know there's other examples of this happening too.
Anyways, I expect that this guy was just a particularly enterprising DIY guy with a bright idea. He figured he could get a good car out of two junk cars on the cheap. He just didn't have any of the skill and knowledge needed to actually pull it off though.

I know for a fact that some are convinced that the shops are trying to take them for a ride (sounds like these particular shops aren’t given the video evidence of clear related issues)
Others I’m sure are confident that now that they are informed of the issue that they can fix it themselves and save a ton of money
And some just don’t have the money to do the repairs at the time
I’m kinda in both the second and third situation with some things right now… I’ve gone nearly a year without horn/cruise/airbag, but I can’t afford $400+ for a new clockspring from O’Reilly’s or Napa ~plus~ install at a shop, but after watching some how-to’s online, I’m 98% confident that I can install the $140 one I ordered online… coulda gotten for as low as $40 but was uncertain that it would have the proper pin count as apparently there are several that are offered for my truck that vary in pin count…
      ----
Also my steering shaft joint assembly (my shop called it an intermediate joint assembly I think) has gone out after 312k miles so steering at all is often a bit of a challenge as at predictable times the wheel feels like it’s resisting my efforts to turn/is binding
I can still steer, but that resistance varies from basically none (occasionally) to noticeable (most of the time) to “damn, I hope I can crank through this and make my turn at all” (sometimes)
But I can’t miss work and the part won’t be here until late this upcoming week at earliest… so I had to drive off without the repairs this time… though I **WILL** be going to my usual shop for this one

Truck was like 300 miles away from one of the big maintenances and to keep the lifetime warranty it is required to be done on time and by a shop they chose. Well, to be fair, your described symptoms could also point towards a problem with fuel tank venting - clogged vapor recovery line or failed purge solenoid. The gauge not moving past 1/2 could have also pointed to a bad ground on the sending unit or a damaged wire in the harness. Hopefully, your car has one of those access panels under the back seat to access the fuel tank - whoever came up with that idea is a freaking HERO! (I've owned too many cars where you have to drain the gas tank and drop it out underneath the car to change the pump, so I really appreciate when a manufacturer makes it easy to work on!)

To get in, you had to present your parking ticket (issued at the front gate) to a machine, that would open the doors. There was no other way in.
The number of times people would come back to us claiming that our automatic door was broken was insane!!!
Not only would they not see the machine, but when they did, they would consistently fail to notice the BIG, FUCK-OFF SIZED ARROW ON THEIR TICKET indicating which side that needed to be inserted into the slot, along with the words: "THIS SIDE UP"!
This was, of course, when they hadn't forgotten their ticket in their car altogether, despite the gate at the entrance audibly reminding them to take it with them when it distributed it!!!

It got loose and the fan belt ate it, severing twenty-something wires. At least that's what the dealer told me. I don't know what really happened, but it cost me $450 to get it manually spliced back together.
