Just a suggestion, your downhill crews should have some mountaineering helmets on for safety. As a medic and wilderness EMT I have been involved with many folks who have sustained very bad head and facial injuries from rock fall. Maybe you can get some custom yellow helmets which also have options to put LED lighting on them for night work. Love you guys! My favorite First Responders!!!
as a construction worker, i have worked with people who have gotten hit in the head and survived because of a cheap piece of plastic strapped to their heads, just be careful about what you wear underneath. someone in my class was wearing a baseball cap, and had a drill fall on his head, he was fine, but it hurt a lot more because the impact was focused on that pin

Couldn’t agree more! I do on road recovery and we have to wear them when doing ditch work, or cliff side work. It’s actually saved me some serious issues once or twice from falling debris
Matt seems like he doesn't take safety advice very well.

Forty minutes just flew by...that was an awesome recovery. I remember watching this channel in the early days when Matt was having a crisis of confidence, not knowing if he should keep doing the YT videos because he thought that what he was doing wasn't quite up to snuff, and here he is nearly four years later closing in on 1.7 MILLION SUBS and making it look so easy. Congratulations and STAY SAFE out there.
They should of called the 162nd airborne they would of used it as a training exercise and pulled it out in 15 minutes with a helicopter

This is probably the most impressive recovery Ive watched on your channel. I am a structural engineer, and the sheer amount of stable pulling power the heavy wrecker has is impressive and showcased in this video.
It wasn't technically all that difficult but they made it look so easy and that's what was impressive. A lot of people could have done it but not in 2.5 hours!

That wrecker may be a garage built wing it project but it is incredible at what it does and is amazingly reliable.
@@marvindebot3264 a couple years ago they pulled a car up a snowy embankment with the morrvair and banana. It was on snow rather then rock and brush, it was a shorter pull, and the embankment wasn't as steep. They struggled and it took them forever. The wrecker made this quick, flawless, and looked very stable in the video. Also as they said in the video, no other tow service would even try to pull it out. That indicates it must be a tougher recovery then it looks in the video if the insurance company is using a company 8+ hours away.

Last time I was in New Mexico I took a wrong turn in Albuquerque and ended up in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Words cannot express how terrifying seeing "Las Vegas next 3 exits" was while I was on my way to Texas.
So long as you don't find yourself with your lawyer, careening down the freeway in a convertible, while preparing a journalistic story for an off-road race in the desert, you shouldn't need to fear a thing!! 🎉

As someone with more than sixty years in the recovery industry, I've been involved in really difficult recovery situations. I must that you and your team did an excellent job on what was an extremely challenging recovery.
The symphony of winch pulling was impressive. Also, having the right crew, supplies, and trust clearly shows throughout the entire team and your ringer, Colt.
Actually, considering the extremely limited duty cycle of those electric winches, he pretty much needed to have all four of them alternating in their pulls so that he wasn't there all day.
Such an incredibly competent crew - with friendship and love for each other. Way to go!!! It's always a pleasure to watch your content.
Huge bit of advice for your trail jack. Just put a piece of tire or a 2x8 bolted to the bottom but the combo with an old cut of tire rubber on the bottom will make that jack work soooo much better it will blow your mind.
i dont even use those jacks and always wondered why no one does this... thats the first thing id do out of the box; make a bigger footprint
I realized the thing that keeps bringing me back to this channel isn’t the off-road content which is great but also Matt’s leadership skills with his team, he does a very good job!
... and in addition to Management skills, He knows how to use them, constantly tapping into those around him. Navy Ships worked like this when the waves got the size of mountains. God is out there with these jokers too.

Yeah, some other channels might have made it a load of shouting and breaking gear, but that "drama" is just annoying; much more interesting to watch people enjoying the challenge and getting the job done.

30:44 Also, a lot of people don’t realize but when you shoot from a drone there is generally no audio so when you see a drone shot and hear winching and rocks tumbling that is either because they have a remote microphone recording separately or they have spliced in audio from another camera. 🙌🏻

The Camera Work and Editing are EXCELLENT on this recovery. Very technical, very safe recovery there is no doubt about that, but the camera work really was impressive, and showed how difficult this recovery actually was, even though you guys made it look easy.
I grew up in this kind of country and going down to the truck was dangerous for the person holding the camera. They should have a couple chest mounted cameras so there's footage they can use to fill in while they get to a safer place.
Walking that kind of rock won't kill you but it's compound fractures in a box. Leg on the fall and arm if you get a chance to catch yourself.
I think Matt's operation takes safety seriously. So all of this is pointing out where they could improve.

It probably makes the job a little more exciting to travel such a distance to a place where you're not recovering vehicles from once a week. Good to see Colt joining in for the day.
This was one amazing recovery with every obstacle that could have been thrown at this team and they came through from winching the Toyota up that massive incline to moving the winching vehicles into the different positions needed for getting the truck out. Love this video with Jaymie, Jefe, Rhett, Kaulin, and the rest of Matt's team. Thanks to Colby for assisting in this recovery! What great shots of the beautiful scenery! The drone footage was awesome! Now this crew have seen the 4 corners.
Wow, not too bad you guys and gals. I’ve done some recoveries back when I was in the army with a HEMTT pulling a deuce and a half and also a Huey helicopter in a ditch lol. But you guys did good on that crazy slope. Good job.

My family used to own a recovery/towing service. As a kid, I lamented the long hours spent on the road, but I as an adult, I look back and realize I cherished the time I spent with my dad. We saw some of the most beautiful country in the western United States. I have a head full of scenery, but can't remember any of the names. It drives me nuts, as I wish I go back and revisit these places.

Ya, great crew right there. I used to do recoveries of all sizes here in the Rockies in Canada at YOHO, Kicking horse canyon and Roger’s Pass so I know a little about this activity and watching Matt and team is awesome, Matt knows his stuff

Matt's new motto, " The impossible we do at once, miracles take a little longer". Looks like Jaymie saved the day, what would the team do without her.. A brilliant job, and no one died.
I think the USN Seabees trademarked that phrase during WW2, but MORR has ridiculous skills.
Mat and his MORR team are masters of the impossible recoveries. His vision for the wrecker created a beast which has no equal.
That was not an impossible recovery. There was plenty of room for a 50 ton rotator on that road. You guys are buying into a BS narrative. It's not that No one else could do it. It's that no one else wanted to do it. An insurance company somewhere knew that Matt would do it cheaper to get the views.

I watched Colt's Bleepin Jeep version and I envisioned using the wrecker as a Yarder like the loggers use to pull logs.
One of the wrecker's boom winch lines is lowered, along with the first rigger, and secured to the tow vehicle. Once that line is secured and tightened, it can be used as a Skyline. Then the tires, jack, and other equipment can be hung on that line with soft shackles to snatch blocks or snatch rings. The descent can be controlled by attaching the second boom winch line to the snatch ring and lowering it down. You could attach a tree strap or short rope to the load to assist the load down with one of the riggers controlling the descent.

Great work, and thank you for driving so far (you passed within 2 miles of my house between Santa Fe and Espanola) to get what was left of this truck off our public land here in northern NM. As I commented on Colt's channel, the location and condition of the truck are unfortunate indicators of the theft and vandalism problems we have around here, most often fueled by drug abuse.
Did the driver live through that crash?
I spent spring break 1984 in Farmington with a classmate from Adams State college. We were on the cross country team so it was a blast running in that area.
Stealing those wheels and tires was so much work, I bet the thieves would have made more money working for minimum wage! I guess some folks just love stealing, like it's a hobby.
FACT i drive for Madrid Towing in Albuquerque and the amount of theft recoveries i do is unreal...
I would say this is your best recovery yet. Extremely technical, but you had the right equipment and the right technique and it came out smoothly despite the precarious position. Great coordination across the team, too!

My dad's family are original Spanish colonist from 1598 so its really nice to see you in beautiful New Mexico, that was the best recovery I have seen since the recovery of the Golden Nugget up in the Sierra Nevada in my home state of California. I really hope that your family enjoyed everything about New Mexico and please tell me you enjoyed some authentic New Mexico food.!
NM-Mexican style food is great. Many are done with their range of chilies so adds to the flavor. Sopaipillas with honey or powered sugar are a special treat of the region.

This recovery was 500 feet higher in elevation than the highest mountain in Australia. Mount Kosciuszko however would be a LOT colder with a lot more snow midwinter.

Cool. We used to go up 31 mile road and roll boulders down the hillside.
That mountainside is the kind terrain that, if I encounter it on a hike, I realize I need to turn around or find a better route. One slip and the best case is you're going to have some road rash, worst case you'll end up dead.
Somebody was serious about stealing parts if they slid down there and then climbed back out with the tires and speakers

Greetings from Oklahoma. I was at Four Corners many years ago before all the building were there. Seems there was just an obelisk at the very center of the four states. I remember buying a Dallas Cowboys silver and turquoise belt buckle from one of the vendors. I still have it. Great recovery job from the whole crew.

Salute to the HOURS of editing and other excellent POV shots that I know ain't easy or quick. Just on a shrug hack level when making the mistake of trying my own "movie" ... or even today with "walking to trail cam" roll. I'm alone but even with a crew, holy hell. One 5-second desired shot can take 40 minutes of running around even without problems! Did I just see a drone shot? Nice.
well that went perfectly, i genuinely thought that was gonna be a lot tougher than what you actually made it look, but i know most of that was down to the choice of equipment and the crew, truly awesome teamwork made that job, thanks for sharing

Matt, hands down, the Morvair is one of the coolest vehicles I've seen. It's nice to see it. I spent a month in Alamogordo New Mexico . Second time I ever snow skied. Had a blast!!!
