  • @Ange1ofD4rkness
    @Ange1ofD4rkness Před 11 dny +48

    As a software developer, I really like how you implemented the rear steering. The fact it auto centers (so you don't have to guess where to go back to), but also you can disable it (and grip is a good design for controlling it)

    • @elijahmiller912
      @elijahmiller912 Před 11 dny +1

      As someone who lives in reality. Any day, at any moment, it can fail, it could have failed in any of the precarious situations he has had it in. Anyone who entrusts their lives to software have very little life experience and/or faulty mind software. Yes, mechanical things can fail but there is usually some kind of warning or failsafe.
      As a builder for 33yrs, keep your software out of machines, keep it in your video games and toys. People are messed up or gone everyday because electronics are unpredictable. Next time you are screaming down the highway with your kids in the car, ask yourself, "what guarantee do I have that all the safety features will work as claimed? Will the airbags actually work at the right moment, or right setting?" Everyday more people regret trusting electronics, and would give it up to have loved ones back.
      My advice, get out of the software game to keep that red liquid off your hands

    It was so good to see you two together having a nice day and I loved seeing how you have become a very competent driver, Jamie. Congratulations!
    I also love the way Matt is a natural born teacher. Your positive, encouraging, and laid-back way with your family, your team and your real local community and then us your you tube it is really fun to watch and educational almost all of the time. Well done, Matt!
    And a big thank you to all of you. I just really enjoy seeing how well you seem to juggle family, work your local community and people like me your CZcams family. community.
    You have inspired me. The first you tube I ever watched; you caught me! It may have been your first Prius video from a couple of years ago. I You took your Prius where??? I felt for the woman, but she seemed kind of clueless. You basically had to build her a rock path and although I am very different from her. i.e., I would have been collecting the rocks and helping and learning from you,
    But.... though I thought that about her, and I had judged her, the ironic part was I was guilty of doing the same thing really, just my own version.
    difference
    And I thought, no one knows I am out here, I am totally at risk for some car misadventure and the worst part is I am a 68 year old and I have a husband in hospice (which is why I have to go to remote places with Just Jarvis my dog) Yes I am traveling with a 95 pound , reactive but sweet hearted dog and I had such a humbling moment.
    Because I live in New Mexico. And even though I know that you came through Santa Fe to get to Espanola to do a job, there is no local or regional, off-road recovery here at all that I can tell. Do you know anything different?
    Boy I would have been so excited seeing you rolling by, but the reality is, I could never afford you to come save me.
    So, I came off that pensive trip where I knew that I had been VERY foolish and saw my first Matts Off Road video and got inspired again. Sold my car. Just for the record I am sometimes guilty of over confidence in myself, which is about the entire content of the people that you recover . Just saying....
    Anyway, I now have a 1993 Mitsubishi Delica 4x4 diesel standard micro camper right hand drive, which I love for a variety of reasons, but it's really the wrong car for someone who doesn't know how to fix it. I have absolutely no business owning something so specialized, but I have a sentimental attachment. It. reminds me of family camping trips in the Western Australia's outback. Parts of the Kimberly range would remind you of Utah by the way,
    I still want to take it out on a few safer but off road semi remote trips before I get something that stops worrying my friends and family. I would love to drive some of the area around you and I would love to come by and show off my unique and cute Dela Cruise....the Delica, I think you might appreciate it. And any suggestions you might have about camping, in places that make sense, so I don't ever need to be recovered, would be appreciated.
    I don't have any travel plans just yet, but I am planning to drive to Washington at some point and I would love to be able to have even a quick hello. Is that even a possibility now that you have so many people that want a bit of your time? I understand if the answer is no... but I hope that you may consider it.:)
    All this to simply say, thank you. What you do is a real service and it's so much more than just rebuilding cars, or recovering vehicles, or even putting on the Games...it's just for being funny, kind and disaffected (a rare thing on CZcams).!
    Cheers!
    Deb Dennison

    my sister had a Honda Prelude back in the 90s that had 4 wheel steer. The rear wheels didn't steer that much, but it did make a difference. At low speed, the rear wheels turned in the opposite direction as the front for easier maneuvering and parking. At high speed, the rear wheels turned in the direction of the front, so you could crab walk from lane to lane! Fun little car!

    Might I make a suggestion, with some clever wiring and maybe swapping out the switches for some double pole / double throw switches, you could add a function to the momentary "rear steer hold" switch.
    As it stands now, it only turns auto centre off. The toggle switch on the dash ALSO turns it off.
    But that dash toggle switch COULD change the function of the momentary trigger from "turn auto steer off" to "turn auto steer on".
    Practically, the system would function like it already does, except when auto steer is toggled off on the dash, that momentary switch could be pressed to temporarily engage auto centre.
    The most basic way is to use switches with two positions (on and off) but with three connections, common, normally open and normally closed.
    Connect power to the common of one switch, the auto centre power to the common of the other switch and then connect the normally open and normally closed of both switches together.

      I’m trying to imagine the scenario where this would be beneficial.
      Virtually 100% of the time, when you are ready for it to return to center, you are done with the maneuver.

    When harbor freight rates their winch it is on the first spool. When Warn rates their winch it is on a full spool. That's why warn winches seem so much stronger. It's cuz they are. They also use less battery power and are quieter. I gave away my apex and put my warn back on. Because when your life depends on it, you want the best most reliable... Great video!!
