Two Things To Do After Buying a Used Vehicle

  • After you buy a new used vehicle, It's important to make sure it's in the best condition possible. This means both protecting the paint so it can last as long as possible, as well as performing all of the service interval maintenance items to ensure it stays reliable. I bought a new to me, 2015 F150 and I took it to Automotive Aesthetic to get the paint clean and protected with a Ceramic Coating. Then I went down to Florida to visit Mack Motorsports who performing an extensive list of maintenance items. Know I can drive my truck for the next 80k miles knowing that there should be no issues and all I'll need to do is change the oil.

      There’s something to be said both ways. If your having the maintenance done by a shop I might encourage you to detail it prior... I’ve been working in and around shops for a while, and if an owner takes care of his car then the people working on it will treat it much differently.
      But coming back after the maintenance is done to, as some would say, dial it in- is important!!
      The other way of thinking is doing maintenance first! Haha

      @@GearsandGasoline Ford QuickLane tech here, the recommended service intervals is actually 80k on those F-150s. Some of the cars they recommend 100k, but I'd personally do that shit every 50k myself and my dealer (chain of dealers in my state) recommends those fluids every 75k. I'd recommend new cabin/engine air filters every 3-4 oil changes and change the oil religiously every 4000-4500 miles. Our customers who do that have the longest lasting trucks. Just the other day I worked on a 2012 F-150 with the 5.0l in it that had 290,003 miles on it. They're great trucks. The highest mileage beast I've ever worked on was a 2002 F-350 7.3l Diesel, 524,059.2 miles. The truck had never had an issue, other than a couple minor leaks. Not even half a quart of oil between changes. Ford does make some of the most reliable vehicles out there, and they do make some piles of shite, like the Escape, EcoSport, Fiesta, and the Focus. Also, the smaller EcoBoost engines are trash. The 2.0l and 3.5l are the only decent ones. But the 2.7l, 1.5l, and 1.6l Ecos are all trash. Take care of the truck and she'll last you a good long time without any trouble at all. Also, those air filters get black really quickly. Just thought I'd add that. I've seen them go black in as low as 15,000 miles on those trucks. You wouldn't believe how bad the diesels go through them.

      @enlightenedrenegade472 Před 4 lety +25

      Actually, no. I'm a Ford QuickLane tech, and an experienced one at that, and that right there is a Motorcraft air filter, not a FoMoCo factory filter. The factory ones are white. The replacements are yellow. The part number is FA-1883, actually. What I'm surprised by is that they didn't take the cabin out and replace it. But those air filters will start to look like that after about 5 months on those trucks. I work on at least 7 Coyote F-150s a day (just like this guy's truck) and a lot of them come back within a few months for a new air filter. That truck does sound like it was well maintained. Ford usually recommends doing a pan, gasket & filter transmission fluid service, spark plugs, and coolant flush at 100k. They also recommend inspecting the drive belts, cooling hoses, and just a thorough check in the engine bay at 100k. And then obviously replace anything that needs replacement. Ford's service intervals on the F-150s are a little weird. I'd never take any of that to 100k. I'd do all of those things every 50k. It's cheap enough. And my 2010 Fusion is about to hit 150k, so I'm gonna change the manual transmission fluid, spark plugs, and flush out the coolant pretty soon here. Can't hurt.

      How did the 18's go down hill? Are the dual fuel injection systems unreliable?

    • @CanadianCarguy247
      @CanadianCarguy247 Před 4 lety

      @@coltonsanford9759 The injection system is fairly reliable on them so far but the main concern with them is ford swtiched to a plastic oil pan for the 18 model year. These pans aren't worth much and they leak from the factory (5.0s go through them almost every second oil change) but Ford is trying to figure out a soloution to this as we speak. The worst and most concerning part with them is Ford switched to a new/different laser cutting system for the blocks and now the 5.0s eat oil, every 5.0 does past the 18 model year but its just how much, Ford has a TSB (technical service bulletin) for this issue and if the truck burns more oil than what is allowed, they get a brand new enigne block basically (and in some cases a whole engine). So if your gonna buy a new F150 buy a 3.5 ecoboost, the 2.7 liter motors are not good at all either 😅

You're also not doing a 2 stage correction every week. The point is, taking care of it will go a long way for many many years. I've never once felt the need to buy a new truck because the one I have still feels new. That in itself has saved me thousands.
