I call that "Making memories with dad" My daughter is now 42 years old, and she still tells me about the time she helped me roof the barn. Memories are priceless and she is learning how to take care of herself. So many kids now cannot even change a flat tire or jump start their car. "It's a damn Shame."

We’ve got a 500 here. Never used it for tillage. Dad pulled 30’ of JD 9300 drills with it for years. Wouldn’t say they are bad tractors. Just wouldn’t recommend hard tillage work. If anyone is interested ours could be for sale too.

I love the story of your daughter and her brakes. My daughter is in her late 30's now and we have a lot of laughs about her young years and my cars. She would come home from college and the gas tank was unbelievably empty and I mean that. I would say it was a miracle multiple times that I made it to the gas station. When you get 17 gallons in a 16 gallon tank empty.
And then the check engine light. "How long has this been on honey?" "Oh Dad, that's always on! Don't worry about it!"

We owned a 500 versatile ourselves. Honestly it was a great machine for what it was. We had a clutch issue too but it was cause by the input shaft brake cable being messed up. That wet clutch had a brake on the input that stopped it from spinning so you could shift. Really was a simple machine to work on. A lot of parts were available but you had to find the industrial supplier that versatile sourced them from. Was an enjoyable one to operate.

More profit for you to buy more toys...Build the 500...if you have a source to build parts...it just ecology and economics for our country to productively use equipment longer than we usually do. Question is JT, is the owner of the 500 in need of his tractor? If yes, times a wasting. Parts can be found. Mind you I'm in Canada, so they are a little more abundant here. Can you "heat" the shop? iffin the Big V isn't needed, I'd say paint the JD. Get it done, get it gone. Could be done by Christmas easily. Then the Steiger. It "May" take a little bit of JT wizardry to comeplete. If so, other projects aren't pushed into planting time. And you have Big Red the 1805, available to cover the big jobs, and the 1155 ready to help out. I say do the Versatile later if possible, unless it's a crunch for the friend. Remember, "A friend in need is the guy who'll help you when yer stuck." Like the walk around Idea, keep 'em coming.
