The official advice regarding driving the Z1 with your leg hanging out of the vehicle is to do this on automatic transmission variants only. Also, the advice goes on to recommend fitting a strap around the bottom of the trouser leg.

It really is sad that nowadays only the biggest BMW-models get this nice straight-6 feeling and sound. I really loved the old NA straight-6 engines in the E36 and E46 3-Series.

Shame that this door style wasn‘t used on more cars. I would say that bmw should build a new z1 with doors like that, but lately thay simply forgot how to build beautiful cars
Like a lot of the sporty two seaters of the day the wheelbase was short and the steering lock had a lot of turns so if the back end went you had to be very quick to catch it. The tyres were poor by todays standard so at least you were travelling more slowly when it happened, so if you did spin you tended not to travel too far off the road if you were lucky.
Cars now with the very wide grippy tyres and electronic help mean you run out of bravery before you run out of talent, at least in the dry....

A black Z1 in fair condition was offered on ebay UK once in 2010 on a buy it now for £12,000. No one snapped it. I'm sure the seller at the time would of accepted £10,000.
