This car could be from any era and will never really look 'dated' ... such a modern classic!
I absolutely agree!
The only thing I think BMW could've done differently was be more creative with the design of the wheels.
@@miguelestela6681 Yup, the Alpina Z8 has the good wheels, shame the Alpina doesnt come with a manual.
@@miguelestela6681 yeah I'd personally prefer a different style of wheels too. As far as the body lines of the actual car goes, its perfect in my opinion.
@@miguelestela6681me too I think the wheels look out of place for this masterpiece
Was just thinking the same, it has aged so well
I've had a Z8. These cars are automotive jewellery. The boot is better trimmed than most cars I've been in. I always used to say, if Bentley built a roadster, this is what it would look like. Beautiful car. The biggest mistake I ever made, letting it go.
If that's the biggest mistake you've ever made, you are doing DAMN well in life, bro ;-)
I've heard the Z8 drove very poorly.. I think it's stunningly pretty, but did it drive as well as it looks?
@@sshah2545 It didn't drive poorly at all. But if you wanted a track weapon, this wasn't the car to buy. BMW didn't try to build a B road destroyer, that's not what this car is about. The engine as we know was one of BMW's finest, which sounded fantastic with the roof down. This car, as Quentin Wilson once said, was a "Boulevard Cruiser". People were slagging it off, without having driven one. But believe me, there are few nicer cars on the road than this one.
Hi mate. How much would you be willing to pay in order for you to own one again?
@@Mario-R-3232 Its not what I'd be prepared to pay as they demand high prices. I'm not in the position to buy as I have a few projects on the go. Why do you ask? I've got a few high value parts that I bought during ownership that have rocketed in value like the car has.
Had some wild cars on the channel recently! Bond group carrying 💪
Stay tuned...the next two from them are WILD.
Bond Group: „The world is not enough!“
@@TedwardDrives how does it get crazier then this and the outlaw?
@@alextos7289 Guess we'll have to wait and see lmao.
More than 20 years old and still looking like a brand new model. Such a timeless car.
I purchased a 2003 Z8 Alpina new. My car is only I believe one of five built with a manual transmission, only because I requested it. This is truly a fabulous car. It has taken me a lifetime to be in a position to purchase it.
That rear end is so futuristic and timeless ❤
aged extremely well.
@@lukeson8934 elagant
Whole car is. They could make it today completely unchanged style wise(plus it would be for the better mechanicly)
@@Kacpa2 Yeah, just was ahead of its time. Doesn’t look like it is already over 20 years old
@@Kacpa2 It would be turbocharged, auto and with touch screens. No, thank you. This car was launched at peak of automotive world.
The interior looks incredibly modern, gorgeous car for sure.
Back when BMW used to make proper cars instead of grills
Exactly.
Yes you buy the grill, the car comes with
Grills that weight 2800 kg
When people had beauty standards and their designers didn't create "modern art" before getting hired
Designed by Henrik Fisker! These were/are such special cars
Really like the steering wheel design on this car. Never noticed it too much before, but I really enjoy the exposed framework of the spokes. It's nice and clean and not plagued with buttons!
One of my favorite body designs. I was about to crack a joke about you having to get a video with an M1 next... then I saw you actually have one up!! A legend.
I'd love to drive another M1 with my new cameras
As a “regular” BMW enthusiast I never paid attention to the Z8 since it was way out of reach for most. The shape is so retro-classic and I’m in love with the interior. I had forgotten the old BMW gong sound from the 1980s was kept into the early 2000s.
I really start to like the cars from 2000-2010. They have already a nice driving refinement and are not just screens and "infotainment" inside to please the TikTok and Facebook generation who just wanna brag but actually don't know how to drive (and appreciate) a car... 🙂👍🏼
when bmw still made the best looking cars out there
Been a lonnnnnng time haha
@@TedwardDrives pretty much over 20 years ago now!
The new Z4? The 3, the 5? Those are still stunning new cars by BMW. The Z8 is in a league of its own but not every new BMW design sucks.
@@Kostas_Dikefalaios well yeah you are right! And imo the new 8 series is also a stunning car.
@@TedwardDrives You‘d think i enjoy bmws living close to their second biggest factories in bavaria in landshut but myeh
I have to admit, I was never really a fan of the Z8. This presentation has completely changed my mind! The detail and emotion you capture in these short videos is unmatched. Thanks for the content!
Ive never been a fanboy for roadsters/convertibles but wow, this one in particular makes me want to get one! I cant believe that Z8 is a 2001. It looks modern with a hint of retro. Slick!
That steering wheel is gorgeous. Everything about it. Just checked auto trader. 250k-300k! I forgot later models came with Alpina Wheels.
It was the Alpina model that came with those wheels. If you'd like a steering wheel, I have one. Brand new. Bmw don't have any left, but if they did, it would be £3000!
This was my very first 1:18 scale model. Such a gorgeous and rare machine.
Same. Red?
I love it when you make these modern classic/classic videos when most other channels simply feature the latest and hottest cars. Please don't ever stop making these Tedward!
One of the few Germanic Cars that really are universally beautiful, like an Italian or an XKE. Work of art.
Hey i love your POV Binaural Audio videos. im on a binge watching them, keep up the hard work.
It's the head to windshield frame that makes it so appealing to me! The rest of this styling? Just fantastic!
we've had three of these in at the dealership, stunning to see in person all the techs immediately gather round to do the dad stance around it.
Fisker did a great job on the Z8. Also, dealerships would install the StarTac mobile phones using kits. My old W220 S-Class had one. Many people upgraded them to bluetooth modules later on. StarTacs are rare
a classmates dad had this when I was in high school, in silver. Gorgeous thing. Also, my own car is a bond car as well, I have a mark 4 mondeo 2.5T.
3:07 you stood so still i deadass thought my video froze 💀
I had the chance to see one of these once. Took a lot of pictures of it. Back then I never expected it to turn out one of the greatest BMW's ever. Absolutely timeless styling. Sounds great, a pretty epic car.
What a beautiful machine! This car will never get old.
You’re killing it with these videos. Keep them coming Tom!!!!!!!!
Thanks Tommy!!
Thank you for this. What a wonderful car! As a detailer, I just want to polish that dash to get rid of those swirl marks.
It was paint corrected two days after this video. It looks sooooo much better now
It may not be practical, but it is timeless. What a beautiful car.
Awesom video, thanks dude.
This is one of my all time favourite BMWs’. Since Top Gear and Jeremy drove the Alpina and the Danish Henrik Fisker designed it. You take it up a notch thank you.
My grandfather owned a packaging company and did a lot of business with BMW. His warehouse was in the same area of upstate South Carolina as BMW was. So with my grandfather being a business owner of course my father worked for him. They were at BMW to do something (not sure what), and while waiting to meet with someone, another employee left them to wait in a room (wrong room apparently) and when my father took a look at the room there was a prototype Z8 in it. Needless to say the person they were there to meet simply said “yea you weren’t supposed to see that”. And that was that
Yes! You finally drove one of my dream machines! It's ultra rare to have a V8 roadster!
That interior looks fantastic
Awesome review. Nice video and sound experience.
+1 subs
yess. i posted thee z8 roadster alpina. this is sick !
Yes I was long awaited for this video, a z8 the best bmw ever
Master piece. One of the most beautiful car ever built.
This is BMWs masterpiece!
Treat of the week for me. Wasn't expecting you to drop a video on this beauty out of nowhere.
One of my favourites BMWs of all time. It would be even more gorgeous if it were in red or blue. Thanks Tedward for reviewing it!
That interior is holding up really well!
Absolutely the coolest interior I have ever seen. My god...
This is such a timeless look, you could tell someone this is a 2015 or a brand new concept that hasn't even hit production yet and they'd believe it. I'd believe it.
Someone in my area pushes an Alpina B8 around occasionally, I remember seeing it street parked. What a lad.
That interior looks 100 times better than the modern one. If only they could make it like this but with the new technologies.
The Z8 is timeless, one of the best BMW in history
I was rewatching a old top gear take on Clarkson reviewing the Z8 a couple of days ago, never understood the "drives like a garbage truck" thing, it seems to be lovely to drive
The thing about him is that he’s not a great driver and he loves to shit talk 😂. Entertaining yes. But has spun more cars than the earths rotation.
@@TedwardDrives Dang Tedward you cooked him 😅
@@TedwardDrives Just because you don't agree with his opinion doesn't mean he's a shitty driver.
the problem with z8 is identity crisis it doesn't know what it is , it doesn't have a lsd its just a beautiful car and that's it no where near a to great cars of the time from driving feeling
That’s not why I say that. I say that because all of the exciting driving done on the show was by professional drivers and then they cut to the hosts so it looks like they were driving. It’s all fake. Look to catchpole, Harris, metcalfe, sutcliff, bovingdon if you want driving impressions. They are drivers first and entertainers second
This car is so beautiful how have I now known of its existence??? Wow just a pure work of art by BMW ❤️❤️❤️
Fun fact: the tail lights and indicators are neon bulbs. they really look like nothing else when lit.
I like to think the Mercedes SLS is the Z8’s spiritual brother. Both are beautiful retro designs inspired by specific models from the 1950/1960’s. These are some of the most special cars ❤
I graduated h.s. This year and this car was so ahead of its time.
the interior is gorgeous
another of best aging interior of all time, nice
Love this video. One of the most beautiful cars ever designed. Henrik Fisker is an amazing designer. The BMW Z8 is the modern day BMW 507.
One of the many legends coming out of Munich. The only I never really liked though is the central instrument cluster.
This is the ultimate Sunday roadster
I remember how incredibly nervous I was when I added the front brace to a customer's car. I had to drilled into the aluminum strut towers and the instructions wasn't very good. Also took an engine out of another one to install Dinan camshafts in it. It was a fun and exciting time!
THE TOP OF GOLDEN ERA BMW ❤️👑
Most beautiful BMW ever made 🔥
It’s so insignificant but I love that the wheels are almost (almost) the exact same that are on my 04 BMW motorcycle. Makes me feel like they are related
what a gorgeous dash
BMW's most beautiful 2 seat roadster.
One of the bests from Munich 👌💯
Very cool sir, i dont see many videos about z8s. I could rag about alot of the stuff in z8s being impractical or being different just for the sake of it, but its so damm cool
1:34 I would love to see your driving impressions on a Z3. I own one and love it, but id love to hear you judge it against other enthusast cars you've driven.
Used to see these every now and then back in my high school days. Nice little roaster it was 😎
I mean roadster not roaster lol
Best sound and so nice, I didn't saw much on the street, but when, I rolled down my window to heard the sound
one of the best looking cars ever made; the new corvette is a monstrosity next to this Z8
Looks like the AMG GT took a lot of design cues from this car -- especially the rear end. Great video!
I was about to say it! You're 100% right
i own one . And this is a real jewel. Never thought to sell it.
Congrats. What a package. Saw one parked on 8th st in NYC once. Never forgot it!
A breathtaking BMW car.
Look at these tail lights ! So futuristic.
Someone who bought this car over 20 years ago really did a good business, it´s even a better value nowadays. BMW did an amazing job, really this is a beautiful gentlement, impressive quality materials better than nowadays , the engine..
This car had unique neon rear and orange arrows lights. Very beautiful and particular technology, more than modern led for me.
looks so good
One of my favorite cars ever made
SO BEAUTIFUL!
These were the BMW days... What a beauty.
First time I laid my eyes on this beauty was when I brought home on VHS The World Is Not Enough in the year 2000 I remember thinking man thats the most beautiful and coolest car ever when I get older thats the car I want to own! I was 8 years old and I will never change my mind on this being the one car I would love to own! If only I won the lottery… 😢
I added Alpina wheels w/ 20” tires & it made all the difference to my 2000 Z8
Remember when this came out, still one of the most beautiful car!
I have just 3 dream cars & the Z8 is one of them. Wanted to have one since the time I got a Z8 scale model when I was in elementary school 15 years ago
Diese Auto ist eins der besten BMW‘s ever!
I am not sure i am getting aged or this is a timeless classic era car that feels perfect looking with many parts.
Underrated bmw
No screens make cars look timeless. All modern cars full of screens everywhere for everything will age horribly.
I almost always turn off the screen. Wish everyone would make it rotate like on some Bentley’s 😁
Yep. Big mistake making everything go through displays. I'd prefer blank plates in place of the tablets sticking out
One of the special BMWs to own. Retro done correctly. I would be very interested to watch a video by you of a Maserati Gransport Spyder (I own one) which is 10 times more rare (and bizarrely also 10 times cheaper) and similar in the sense of a luxurious and powerful 2-seat V8 soft top. Especially your video and audio setup makes it a real pleasure to watch.
This car sings the years!
One of the best looking BMW there is...
This thing is solid!
Bringing back NFS Hot Pursuit 2 memories. First time I ever saw one on the road was at a gas station. It was the Alpina edition. Unfortunately no manual but still a very beautiful and unique piece of automotive history
@@brianeugenelee Those were the days. NFS UG NFS UG2 MW etc
Hot Pursuit 2 was an incredible game - must've spent hundreds of hours playing that with my friends as a kid
Full attention time. Lets go!!
This Z8 is an homage to so many older cars. The 507 (duh), Jag E-Type, MkII, Mercedes 6.3. Cars that could really "go," but were luxurious enough to be "gentleman cruisers." That phrase is so 60's.
The only thing I remember from "The World is Not Enough" is that The Z8 was a perfect Bond car. Though the 750il caused some Bond fans to just lose it because "a BMW IS NOT BRITISH!!! ARGH!"
I also have a sense of my mom's 1987 XJ6 with the J-Gate shifter. My dad's 1999 Mercedes 230K. The convertible hardtop was wizardry. I still miss my dad's XJ8. V8 and could cruise all day.
This Z8 is a dividing line. Sure, electronics are everywhere, but not the main part of the show. I am going to old man screaming at clouds. Current cars with their electronics and infotainment screens put an emotional distance between driver and car. This Z8 seems more connected and I am part of the experience and not isolated from it.
Cool interior too.
Feels like this car from the future, and the past at the same time
One of the best cars BMW ever created
best steering wheel design ever
Apparently the lead exterior designer was Henrik Fisker!
