    One of the all-time classic sci-fi films comes to Blu-ray!
    "A landmark science-fiction film! An intelligent interplanetary epic filled with beautifully crafted designs and marvelous special effects!" - TV Guide
    Prepare to blast off from planet Earth with one of the most popular classic sci-fi films of all time! When atomic scientist Dr. Meacham (Rex Reason, The Creature Walks Among Us) is chosen to take part in a top-secret research experiment in a remote lab, he quickly discovers that he is really involved in an evil scheme by alien Metalunans to take over Earth. After he and the gorgeous Dr. Adams (Faith Domergue, It Came From Beneath The Sea) make their escape shortly before the lab explodes, they are whisked away in a flying saucer to Metaluna, where they are blamed for the destruction. Will interstellar negotiation save the day or will the scientists be forced to take part in a treacherous battle to the death?

    Jeff Morrow (1907-1993) was a dear friend of mine from 1979 to his passing. He told me this was his most interesting film ever. And it is. A real science fiction classic. He loved playing Exeter, which character actually created from two characters in Raymond F. Jones' original 1952 sci-fi novel, named Jorgasnovara (alien) and Dr. Warner (a German scientist working for Jorgasnovara).
    Screenwriter Franklin Coen named him Exeter, after two cities in England and New England. Don't ask me why.

      @TheDejael... Thank you so much, I find your comments to be so informative and interesting to me, as This Island Earth has been a favourite of mine since first seeing it on TV in the 1960s.

    I clearly recall going to the local drive-in theater and watching this and was about 12 at the time. Niether one of my parents were sci/fy fans, especially my father. Wonder what they thought about it and would love to question both about it, but they have been gone for decades (23 years for my mother and 43 years for my father..)

    The amazing Interocitor - concept by author Raymond F. Jones in his original "Peace Engineers Trilogy" of short stories appearing in Thrilling Wonder Stories sci-fi magazines from 1949 to 1951 - in the first 1949 installment, "The Alien Machine" - with pulp novel illustration art by the amazing Virgil Finlay. The trilogy became Jones' 1952 best-seller novel THIS ISLAND EARTH, published by Shasta Publishers in hardbound copies only. There was also a very limited edition movie second edition with cover art by Reynold Brown based on his excellent Universal movie poster art, a very rare and collectible edition in 1955.
    The Interocitor in the movie was designed by Richard H. Riedel and Hans Albers for Production Designer Alexander Golitzen.
    Basically a large two-way triangular color TV set with interstellar range and three neutrino ray beams on each corner of the triangular screen. The original was made of sheet metal and was very impressive, with one made specifically to be destroyed by fire.

    • @TheDejael
      @TheDejael Před 17 dny +1

      Rex Reason was a dear friend of mine from 1978 to his passing in 2015, and his brother Rhodes as well in 2014.
      Universal gave him a fake studio name, Bart Roberts, on his first two pictures as a contract player, in TAZA, SON OF COCHISE (1953) as Naiche, brother of Taza, sons of Apache Chief Cochise, with Rock Hudson as Taza. And released in early 1954, YANKEE PASHA, starring Jeff Chandler, in which Rex, as Bart Roberts, played an evil Islamic sultan named Omar Id-Din.
      Rex went to the studio head office of Edward Muhl, movie mogul of Universal Studios and complained, and wanted his real name back or he would tear up his contract. Muhl agreed and Rex Reason's name appeared in his next movie.

    Every time I see a classical leading man in a fantasy (Rex Reason here; Harry Hamlin in the REAL "Clash of the Titans" is another example), I keep expecting them to say: "Why are we even bothering to go through this story? I'm an Adonis, with a he-man voice -- does anyone REALLY think that I'm not going to win all the battles, smash all the villains, and wind up with the girl?"

I had long forgotten the name and watching these clips was quite interesting. Also, I have to wonder how they managed to create this and made it so authentic appearing. Movies like this played in large role in my becoming a sci/fy fan, which is still true even to this day...and, along with my growing up under dark rural Oregon skies, also created my lifelong interest in astronomy.
