CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Cal (Rex Reason) and Joe (Robert Nichols) finish building the interocitor, a device for communicating with intelligent alien life form Exeter (Jeff Morrow).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The cult television series Mystery Science Theatre 3000 transfers its brand of science-fiction wisecracking to the big screen with relatively few changes. The concept is the same in series and film: an innocent man (Michael J. Nelson, playing Mike Nelson) is stranded in outer space by a mad scientist, who subjects the poor slob to "experiments" that involve watching the worst movies ever made. In order to survive this cinematic torture, Mike and his two companions, sarcastic robots Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot, mercilessly heckle the film in self-defense. In this case, the target is This Island Earth, a 1950s sci-fi opus that, despite its silly makeup effects and stilted dialogue, actually stands slightly above the usual Mystery Science Theatre fare. Otherwise, despite the larger budget, the film plays as a shorter version of the television show, with the robots and sets purposefully maintaining their ingenious, homemade look. Despite its loyalty to the original concept, many long-time fans found the film less sharp than the series, and the cinematic version failed to attract many viewers beyond the original audience. Nevertheless, it serves as a good introduction for the uninitiated, demonstrating the show's combination of pop culture deconstruction and intelligent, playful humor.

I just failed the interocitor aptitude test. I managed to put the stupid thing together, but then turned the wheel only 17 degrees. Learn from my mistake people!

SAME THING (2:50) happened with my Interocitor. I didn't have any baking soda, so my apartment was totally engulfed, like that Of Tonkin resolution. I heard there was an Interocitor 1.1 that came with its own baking soda bag attached, but i'd joined the Cubans by then & we had bigger things than baking soda.
Finally completed my interocitor only to find Metaluna got blown up 70 years ago.

I haven't seen this since the 50's when I went to the local drive-in in a car with both of my parents and crammed full of five kids...but have always remembeed the interocitor, but had long forgotten its name.
These guys would be blown away by the modern Vizio!
With all the reboots Hollywood i would love one of this.

Can anyone tell me if, during the big dinner scene after Cal first arrives at Exeter's, the lady with the loud voice is speaking Finnish? She has quite the loud voice, and it's around the time the bots comment of "stop hogging the bottle, Kreskin". I am know Finnish but it goes by so fast I can't really tell, and unfortunately to pinpoint the exact scene you either have to rent or buy the movie here. Thanks in advance! Kiitos!
