As you’ve seen it in the previous episode, we had a great time in Dawson City. However, while our excitement grows for the next leg of our adventure, it was time to have a last campfire on the Millenium Dome and then to say goodbye to our friends.
The ferry from Dawson City to the other side of the Yukon River is the only way to cross the river during the summer months as there are no bridges.
The ferry is operated by the territorial government and is free of charge. The ride takes around 15 minutes.
It runs 24 hours per day, except Friday mornings, when it is shut down for servicing. The steel ferry George Black has been transporting people and vehicles across the Yukon River at Dawson since 1967.
The service is closed during winter months, when the river is frozen and visitors must use the ice road to cross the river.
The Top of the World Highway is a scenic, unpaved road that connects Dawson City, Yukon and Chicken, Alaska. It is a seasonal road that is only open during the summer months and is known for its spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness.
The road can be rough in places, but the drive is well worth it for the breathtaking scenery. The highway is also known for its historic significance, as it passes through the heart of the Klondike gold rush trail and passes by several important gold rush sites.
Our drive on the Highway is a great way to still experience the remote and rugged beauty of the north and the history of the gold rush.

Well done, Ferenc and Evelin! Take care and stay safe
Thank you Francoise!
I have watched scores of videos making the same trip from Dawson City to Chicken, as I plan to take the same route in 2023, and this is the first time anyone has ever mentioned the Poker Creek port of entry is seasonal. Thank you for that valuable information. Be safe.
I’m glad you found the video useful. Yes the border post only operates during the summer season.
LOL. Same thing happened to me. Got there at 7:30. It closed at 7. I was going to stay up there, but the bugs were horrible, so I ended up going back to Dawson City and splurged for a hotel room and returned the next AM.
Thanks for watching. Yeah there was some incorrect info on ioverlander 🤷🏻♂️
Nice video
Thank you!
