Driving the TOP OF THE WORLD highway in Alaska (EP 28 - World Tour)

Finally! After days on the road we are at the gates of Alaska. We sadly said goodbye to Tom and Jerry (see previous episode) but are still travelling with @evazubeck. Together we leave Dawson city, Yukon Canada and take the Top of the World highway. This is the road that is going to lead us to the Little Gold Creek Border control. The northernmost land border crossing of the USA. That same crossing that will close in just a few hours before our arrival until end of spring next year. The border crossing, the first impressions of Alaska, our preparation for the drive to the northermost drivable point in the region. It is all in this week's episode. If you do not enjoy Eva's content or her particular style of videography, then by all means,... MOVE ON. There is no reason to trash a woman merely because you don't like her videos. to remove a lock easier, insert 2 open ended wrenches to each side and pull the wrenches together and lock break .
This brings back a lot of memories. I did that drive in the early 90’s in my old beat up camper van. Went through Chicken, Tok and Dawson City. Met my wife there and we’re still together almost 30 years later. My wife even had the same hair style as Mathilde back then.

Such a cool story! Do you still have the camper? We loved the area especially with the fall colors. We already added the whole region + Alaska to the list we want to come back to one day in life. Maybe at another seasons
@@NextMeridianExpedition we had to abandon it in Northern British Columbia on the way back after a wheel fell off. We hitch hiked to the nearest town and flew home. Lots of adventures with that van.
We met in Beaver Creek Yukon at the Westmark hotel. I worked there for 4 summers. I’m hoping you’ll pass through Beaver Creek on your way back.
17:17 it's easier to drill out the tumbler where the key fits in, but the cutter worked as well.
Covering some miles, but nice to get a night in an Alaskans house for that local connection.

In the process of finding the footage of your Denali visit, I stumbled back here, and got to :50, where you noticed the Alaska license plate with a bear on it. When I was there back in '84, it instead was blue, with yellow stars forming the Big Dipper constellation.
That must have been really nice! There might have been other kind than the bear I think. Maybe even the star one.

Hahaha it has a French registration! We shipped it from hambourg so we travelled a bit through Germany with it.

That's Land Rover, love them, don't love them but if you love 'em you'd need a decent set of tools as you will use them fairly often. But they're still great overland vehicles.
Yes! We are learning so much and it s super reassuring that we feel we can fix it as it goes with minimum support.
If I see it correctly there were pallets in the fire under the food. Using pallets for cooking is very bad idea. Pallets are full of chemicals to make them last as long as possible. All the chemicals go into the food.

NM.E + Eva, I guess I was a bit ahead of your trip in leaving my comment back on Ep 27 about Chicken. Here, now that you've crossed the border, is one about the town of Tok, which, no doubt, seems like an odd name. Here's the story: first syllable of “Tokyo”, as in Tokyo Camp--one of the construction camps during the building of the AK Hwy. during WW2 which became a town, located at Milepost 1314/2114km. of Alaska Hwy. It was so isolated back in those days that the workers would have had no place to spend their nights. Thus, the camps were built as the work progressed.
Little known and less important fact: First Nation is the politically correct term for Indians and Eskimos in Canada; in the US, it's Native American, while in Alaska, they use the special term Native Alaskan.
One more thing: have you ever heard of something most drivers to the North consider indispensable? It's called Milepost. They have absolutely every highway in Alaska, Yukon, NWT, plus the roads up to the North country from the Western states of the US in detail.
There is a delay between the video and the journey as we need time to edit the videos so you were quite on time!
So interesting the story of Tok! We had not idea. Fascinating the development of that region. We did not know much about the history of the region until we went there. And those stories are awesome.

Oooh Tom! We said goodbye to him at the end of the last video. For visa reasons he stayed in Canada and did the dempster Highway instead. He is driving all the way down to patagonia so we are hopeful our road will cross again. Such an amazing travel buddy.
