- BasketNews crew Donatas Urbonas, Rytis Vysniauskas & Gytis Blazevicius rewatch, react and share behind-the-scenes stories from one of the most entertaining FIBA EuroBasket games ever.
In the 2017 EuroBasket Quarter-Final, Slovenia led by then 18-year-old Luka Doncic & NBA veteran Goran Dragic went to an incredible toe-to-toe battle versus Kristaps Porzingis' Latvia.

I remember watching this game and thinking "Yeah, nobody is beating this Slovenian team if they keep playing at this level" and they sure did. This was definitely the best game of that Eurobasket tho
imagine if doncic and porzingis played together...
Only if 😂
imagine if Doncic and 9-finger-sniper Bertans played together...
Maybe they heard you :D
Hahahahah
The best Eurobasket game I have ever watched live. It was a spectacular showdown!
As a Latvian this was so painful to watch and you made me remember something i was repressed deep in my memory thanks guys 😭🤣
you need to watch Partizan vs Cibona 2010 game (one of most mental games in recent memory)
2009*
Also, i remember watching Luka play this tournament and being a hater like "Yeah, they are overhyping this kid, he is good but come on Dragic carried" then a year later when he won with Madrid and was MVP at i was like "Dude is generational. i'm dumb" 😅
Really like this format! Keep it up :)
More to come!
These 3 have such amazing chemistry.
Good choice, but nothing like World Cup semi finals in 2006 and 1986. Those were matches to remember.
As a latvian, remember being in the start of second grade, wasn't really the best to start it
I remember when my brother said ''HE'S 18'' and everyone in my family started calling him wonderkid up until his second season in the nba
I know yall already did the quarterfinals of 2017 but i would love to see you rewatching the 2017 final, serbia vs slovenia was hands down the best international basketball game ive ever seen. The "why you put your heads down" speech by dragic was legendary. Love the format, keep it up!
He was really in such a better shape back then
Better shape, more energy and positivity... Hope he finds joy in playing soon 🙏
This game hurts as a Latvian
2016 4th Greek Championship Final PAO - OLYMPIAKOS 81-82 , Spanoulis Buzzer Beater, End of Series. THE Game to rewatch!
Smodiš, Lorbek? Wow, you guys really know your stuff. Respect from Slovenia. Also, Nets 3 T-shirt was a nice touch.😉👍
Next game it has to be the final of Panathinaikos VS Cska in 2009
This was a goooooood game, so good!!!
One of the best games i've ever seen. Great pick.
Its not only luca lead slovenia to gold medal, its also dragic, canćar ,prepelic and the genius coach kokoskov
I remember all Latvians hating Anthony Randolph after this one.
9:21 happy to see little me :D
Nice pronunciation guys! Love you Lithuanians and your school of bball! :)
guys, as a slovenian, yes, absolutely this is one of the best games ive ever seen
also, kokoškov is the best coach we'll ever have, sekulić isn't even at 10%, 0 confidence, 0 authority, dallas has the same problem with the coach, they're both scared to say anything to luka and that's a big issue imo, kokoškov, along with luka being young was a coach luka respected and listened to, same for goran dragić..
and about vidmar, he was a BEAAAST, very underrated, cant disagree with that
can't fucking wait for the world cup, holyyy, i cried at half time when we choked to poland, i cried when batum blocked prepelič's potential game winner in last second in olympic games, hopefully i don't cry again when watching slovenia play basketball :DDD
I would love to see you guys watch a classic Dirk game (whether it be from the NBA, a FIBA tournament, or during his time with Wurzburg)
Guys, i love it how you know our name.. Toncek.
Love it.
You mentioned that Dāvis Bertāns had one of his shooting hand fingers injured during the tournament. But you didn't mention that he does not have a tip of his ring finger at all. It was cut off when he was a child. P.S. As far as I know, Bertāns brothers are originally from Rūjiena, not Valmiera. It's a town in Valmiera region, but some 40 km away from Valmiera. They just began their basketball career in Valmiera and now have also opened their own basketball school there. :)
2017 eurobasket porzingis was as dominant as (or even better than) 2022 eurobasket markkanen
Gytis rocking that Harry Potter look
As they say 'Oculus Reparo' 🥸
If Latvia would've won, would they have gone on to win like Slovenia
Watch the miracle of zalgiris
Not sure why but thought luka was Croatian until watching this. Maybe a little Luka name creep from modric for so many years.
Can you do also slo:spain and slo srb
13:18 😂
Dragic was best player of tournament. He destroyed Marjanovic in pick in final.
Luka had been on the map since his transfer to Madrid.
The most talented European baller ever.
no and no
no and yes xd
This game won not only Slovenia but also USA, so congratulations to both this countries. This team might be called by Ljubljana Olimpija :D
Luka is quickly losing his potential because of his terrible attitude. He can easily end up having a career like T-Mac instead of Lebron or Jordan.
It is so weird to see him actually trying to play defense here.
