Hyundai Ioniq Manual Door Entry

- When the remote door entry fails on your Hyundai Ioniq, you need to resort to manual door entry, and trying to find out how to do that, early in the morning when you are still half asleep is not something you want to encounter! I made a shorter version for the more impatient people here: • Hyundai Ioniq Manual K...
Yes, the details are in the manual, but try and find them when you are under pressure to get into the car!
It all looks so simply, why to bother with a video? So that at least one person might have a less stressful time than I had!
Oh, if you happen to be one of the impatient souls of CZcams... and struggle to watch my little video, just get your car key, pop off the handle of the driver side door, insert key and enter... That should keep some of the sadder people out there happier, assuming they can actually read.
If you appreciate any of the stuff I have released, or just like to buy people Coffee, why not pop over to: ko-fi.com/tech... and give me a caffeine hit!

Thanks, you are a star🤗 I was stranded with a dead 12v battery and could not figure how to unlock the door. Great video thanks for making it😀👍
So glad it helped! Is funny how simple this is to do, but when it hits you the first time, and you panic.... well.... 😂😂 thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

You are right that the information is in the manual but that doesn’t help when it is locked inside the vehicle. Great video :-)
It's supposed that you read a little bit the user's manual after you received the car.. I read mine even before I received my new Ioniq.
@@felipevg0261 my manual doesn’t show how to take off the cover
@@HumboldtK so sad..
Dude, you saved my life and my family's life. I lease a car for business purposes. Friday evening I couldn't get into my vehicle and lost a day of pay. Your video made it possible for me to work today and tomorrow. Thank you!
I'm so glad you managed to get that sorted out, and makes it all worthwhile for doing! It just shows you that something others would hate (heck 6 dislikes at the time of writing this) it's nice knowing at least one person finds it all useful. It would be so nice to visit the negative peoples CZcams sites so that I could express an opinion on their work!
Sir you are a star, we were stranded on the 4th of July and everything was closed. This method was simple and efficient. Thank you!!
Thanks for the feedback, very much appreciated, and hopefully things went well after you got back into the car!
Was stuck in a dark parking lot late at night and your video saved me! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!!! I was out late last night, left some things in my car, and when I went to get them out this morning... I couldn't get in! Pressing buttons on each side of the car didn't work, pressing buttons on the fob didn't work, so I tried my other fob and that didn't work either! Before calling AAA, I decided to Google the problem, and found your video. Your instructions worked perfectly! I popped off the cover as you directed, used the manual key to get inside, pushed the 12V reset button (and got some beeping but pushed a button on the fob) and the car started with no problem! Drove around a little bit just to make sure everything was fine (my mileage is messed up but that's the least of my worries), got home and used the fob to lock it up again! I haven't put the cover back on yet just to make sure it's really, really fine next time, but it looks good!
Thanks for the quick and dirty lowdown on how to deal with this problem. Much gratitude. We watched your video in the rain standing outside of our Ioniq with a bunch of groceries and a dead key fob.
Still, I would have a few words for the individual who decided this design was in any way a good idea. What a fidgety pain in the butt. One of the infinitesimally tiny pins that hold that keyhole cover in place broke off in the process of removal which was also a nice example of lacklustre design.
It’s a shame that, after four years of not being able to say enough good things about this car, something like this comes up to make me want to kick someone’s thoughtless corporate overthinking ass.
Thank you so much for this video! Husband had some really important meetings he couldn’t miss today and we were in a panic when his FOB up and died, mine died a while ago so we just both used his. He had a digital copy of the manual but I just knew someone out here would have this up! Quick and to the point.
I didn’t watch the video in full so I didn’t see the part about the alarm, I panicked 😂 But we got it sorted. Getting new batteries (and backups) for both our FOBs today!
And yeah, the design to get to the manual open is just dumb 😒 I kind of get it to mess with thieves but when you’re in a rush, no one has time to fiddle with that thing. And getting it back on is a headache. I hope it doesn’t fall off on his drive to work 😣
Thanks so much for making this video! Was stranded in my Tucson and this video saved me big time.
Thank you! Had to use this today in a hire care and was potentially gonna miss our flight back home. Without this we would have!🙏🏻👍🏻
To remove rear shell, press in bottom button with fingernail or key and remove TOP portion first. Door must be slightly opened as there is an extension flap in front of rear shell to prevent it from falling off when door handle is closed.
To reinstall, align rear shell bottom hole with bottom button and bottom of shell must go in first followed by the top. Again door handle must be slightly opened.
Absolute lifesaver! While my car doesn't have the battery button I can at least get in my car!
Once you do it, you tend to think... THAT"S IT! :) Glad it helped!
Dude! Thanks for getting me inside the car while the weather outside was freezing. I though we gonna have to get a tow truck. Much thanks!
It's incredibly simple once you know what to do, but at the time you go into panic mode! Glad it all worked out in the end!
Even though we had the manual in the house and could look at the instructions on how to use the key to unlock the door - the photos and description totally sucked! Thank goodness we found your video! And it also gave us a hint about pushing the 12V button!
I still laugh when people complain about this video… It’s in the book etc… until you actually face weird things like this, that ARE SIMPLE once you know how… but at the time its like trying to understand quantum physics in 5 minutes :) Glad it helped!
What does the 12v button do exactly?
Thank you very much for the simple steps to access. My manual was in the boot & the car was dead. .. to add a couple of worthwhile notes for other users. 1. I pushed the 12v reset when I was driving accidentally instead of the Lane safety button (next to each other) so that may have caused the issue. 2. Yep the cap is a little bu**er to fit back, but I’ve found that if you put your knee on the door, then pull the handle, it’s easier to fix the clip back… Once again, Many Thanks 👍
There are some “notches” (or whatever you call it) on the top. Put the cover on from the top, then push the bottom down and it should snap into place. So easy once figure out “pull door handle out, then flick the cover off by inserting manual key into the square hole and pull outward”.
Man this video saved my life! Eye called a tow and everything Eye am so glad Eye found this b4 paying extra expenses
And once you do it once… you question yourself on why it never occurred to you what to do! Thanks for the feedback!!!
Typical Monday. Love this
You just got my back in my car, thank you for this!! 🙏
Great video. Only thing is my manual release button for charging again is in bottom of boot which is really difficult to get to when all the doors are not opening! Got to it in the end😀
Very helpful! (:
USA Thanksgiving - last minute trip + the key fob suddenly stops working (!) Thanks to your video, I'm able to get into the car and reset the battery (and look smart doing it, lol :) Thanx!
Glad it was of use! Yes... the saving face part is something I could have done with on the day... hope your celebration went well!
Thanks
I struck just this morning
I don’t know what to do
Finally I saw ur video wow 🤩
Thanks 🙏
Great to hear that it's helped yet another person in a fix! And again, once you do it the first time... you look back and think... :) I was the exact same, hence the video! Thanks for the feedback, always appreciated.
Saved me $130 going to "Avis roadside assistance". Thanks!
Always great when you hear a CZcams video saved someone money! Thanks for the feedback!
Thank you very much. Your video saves my day too.
Thank you for this - so helpful !
Your video was very helpful. Thank you very much🙏🙏
Thanks, this was so helpful 👍
Same for me. Thanks to you, I was able to open the door. However... My 12v was dead. So I got a CAA charge of the 12v
happened to me this morning... filled the car at the petrol station and couldn't get into the boot to fetch my purse as the car decided to play dead... thankfully, the ladies behind the cashpoint were super supportive and didn't call security... lol... called AA but found the reset button before someone gave me a call back to, assumingly, explain about the reset button... you live, you learn but it would have been helpful if the sales team had explained a little thing like that, instead of making an unassuming new car owner panic
How was u able to reset the car with the 12v button if u couldn’t get into the car?
Thanks, much better than calling Hyundai roadside assistance. They were totally useless.
That was really useful. Thank you!
Great, I have an Ioniq too and was dreading having to prise off the lock cover and not break it but now I know and have seen it, its not so scary
One you do it, the fear vanishes!
@@TechRealityGlasgow Just had to use it today on the car for the 1st time. Car appeared to be a 'dead as a door nail' and no response to the push button on the handle, the remote control push button operation or the Bluelink remote access via the phone app. :-(
Got the cover off exactly as you said, key in the lock and gained access. I then reached in and pressed the 12v boost button as I thought you were supposed to do. (Boost button situated next to filler cap release button) only to find as soon as the button was pressed the car alarm activated and the horn went off. There were no dash display lights illuminated. Fortunately pressing the engine start button started the engine and the dashboard sprung to life.
Thanks again for the video and I am glad I saved it because no damage was done to the plastic lock cover and it snapped back securly into place. Obviously I could have read the car handbook but when it locked inside the car its not that easy. :-)
@@stevew9957 That's great feedback! The video really does seem to be made for something so simple, but until you have the thing happen to you, you have no idea how you will react! Where's the manual! How to I get things sorted quickly! Your brain just goes into meltdown!
Very helpful my friend from today I am your subscri
Thanks for the feedback, very much appreciated! And strangely enough, today, as I went to the car, I had the same issue happen... remotes would not work, and had to go in manually again!
Thanks it helped me
You have to make more of these😂
Cannot be much worse than the other stuff I have done :)
Hey. Great video!
Since I have 2 pair of keys and noone of them worked I guess that the battery on keys are not the problem. Do you know what could be the issue?
I’m led to believe that the small internal battery somehow drains… absolutely no idea why as I never leave the car in a state that allows it to require battery only…. Has same issue in previous model as well!!
@@TechRealityGlasgow doesn’t the 12v battery reset fix this issue?
So, that is how you do that! Thanks. I'm learning about the crazy design of a Hyundai. My question is, why is there not a warning that appears on that fabulous Hyundai dashboard that says "Hey, your key fob has low battery power--time to replace the *&$%(@# battery!"
I find it weird that the APP does not have that feature to let us know! Maybe in the 2022/2023 model we will have this!!!
Thanks: You sade us.
Thank you so much ❤️❤️
Very helpful 👍
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it! If it gives someone a smile or access to their car, it's been worth the heartache! :)
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Helped me to get in the car and release the hood when my 12v battery was down. I don’t have that 12v button in my Ioniq. What does it do? Because I don’t take it charges the battery, does it? By the way, in my naivety I first thought the 28 Kw/h battery would automatically charge the 12v battery. Apperently it doesn’t. I have to change the 12v battery about every two years.
I'm so happy that this helped you out! Pressing the button closes the relay providing power again to the 12-volt system from the 12-volt battery (allowing you to "start" the car). The traction battery is not involved until the car is "on" and will now charge the battery until the car is "off". More details can be found here! www.ioniqforum.com/threads/12-volt-battery-reset-button.34296/#:~:text=Pressing%20the%20button%20closes%20the,the%20car%20is%20%22off%22.
@@TechRealityGlasgow Thanks for your answer and link. Do you mean that the 28kw/h battery charges the 12v battery when the car is on? So it actually acts as an alternator?
I believe that's what it is doing, but I don't understand why it would appear to be discharged unless the car was off and just running stuff off of battery only. I have now changed to the new Kona Hybrid, and it will be interesting to see if this car experiences the same issues! @@queenandi5834
@@TechRealityGlasgow My experience here (Aruba, the Caribbean) has always been that I have to replace the 12v battery about every two years because it is empty. Also with my previous ICE cars. Maybe it's because of the humid tropical climate. And Aruba is a small island so you only drive short distances. With always a/c on.
In Scotland, we have a lot of rain, cold and damp and very limited sunshine throughout the year, so maybe there is a benefit of that sort of weather over having high humidity. (Give me sunshine and heat anytime!!) @@queenandi5834
excellent video !!
Glad you liked it!
Very useful!
Glad it was helpful!
thanks - there is nothing in the manual that explains this.
How comes the alarm went off? Will this happen every time we need to put a key manually in? Also, how do we turn the alarm of, just start up the car?
I just pressed the 12v reset button and the alarm turned off. Had this happen again recently, and no alarm went off, so not sure why that actually happened in the first place.
Thx
Merci !
Dunno why we need a 2:47 video to show a 14 second procedure
FFS came here to find out how to get it back on 🤦♂️

Thank you for the video, the door handle cap has snapped off, does anybody know where I can get a replacement?
I think you would contact Hyundai, a dealer, or eBay, but has it actually snapped? the small lugs that hold it are pretty hard to damage, so my initial thought is (like I experienced) you are just having a problem fitting it back on?? I hope so, as spares for any car are a pain to obtain!
@@TechRealityGlasgow annoyingly the lugs have snapped off. When I try to put the cap back in the cap is too loose from where the lugs have snapped off.
@@telfel3447 That is a major pain! Might be worth a quick request here to see if other ioniq users can advise? facebook.com/Hyundai-Ioniq-Forum-154001414957168/
How do I start it with the key
Start the Ioniq Firmly depress the brake pedal whilst ensuring the key is held closely to the power button. After a few seconds you will hear a beep sound, at that point push the start button whilst continuing to press down on the brake pedal. The dash will then illuminate.
@@TechRealityGlasgow I don’t have the key fobe in position. Just the valet key
@@jkall37 Valet key?? So you have no fob… I’m afraid I’m unsure on what you have???
I want to go for a swim. Can I cut a manual key and lock the fob inside
Easier to get a mag box, put key in that and stick under the car :)
Why cut a key when there’s one in the fob?
European (UK specifically) vehicles don't have the battery reset button, but the problem has not been solved so you have to jump the battery. We've had no reason for the battery to drain - it's just a vehicle fault that Hyundai haven't solved. Really disappointing
I’m from Scotland, so the model I have is UK spec. It is a very weird issue, but considering that this model of car is no longer being made, I guess we will never know what the root cause was for this. I still love this car, and really wanted to upgrade to the next revision, but now we have these ridiculous electric vehicles all being pushed… oh well :)
@@TechRealityGlasgowahhhh interesting, they must have removed it at some point, ours is a 20 plate, I guess yours is earlier? We've had the 12v battery flatten about 5 times now even after 2x attempts by Hyundai main dealer to resolve
@@jonathanw2036 Yes it's a peculiar issue! that I put down to me turning the car off, but forgetting to lock the thing, possibly draining the battery... but made absolutely no sense whatsoever! Apart from this weird issue, I have to say that I still reckon the car is an absolute bargain for the features you get... but sadly no more... I am still looking for something else to upgrade to, but nothing is appealing to me so far, but it will not be electric!
@@TechRealityGlasgow yeah same here, we love the car apart from this, and there are no options available with a similar spec for the price. We've extended our lease for another 24 months but not sure what to get after that!
@@jonathanw2036 Keep me posted on what you are considering going for as I too am at a loss!
What a hassle. Surely Hyundi can make it a bit more user friendly. I`m 81 and got stranded once luckily a savvy motorist, parked near me, helped me out but I forever lost my confidence shall not buy cars with those anti pensioner locks again .
Well, I'm no spring chicken myself, but as you see did manage it... but, in saying that, anyone with poor vision, never read the manual, or even contemplated such a situation happening to them WOULD find this quite an ordeal to deal with! I don't think it's just Hyundai with this issue though, I may check on other makes of cars and see how they fare in this sort of scenario! Thanks for the info!

Why do they design stupid things like this now.
What a ridiculous way of getting in we got stranded still couldn't get in. Couldn't get the key into the keyhole Hardly in the end it was far quicker to borrow the battery out of a different fob from someone else's and replace
I suppose having someone else around with a fob that you could get a battery from was lucky, though don't see why on earth the manual key entry would not work, since that's the whole point of manual entry! Clearly whatever situation you found yourself in, you got out of it eventually which is good.
@@TechRealityGlasgow but the other thing is apparently there is no warning light to tell you that the key battery is low? Which I thought was very odd as I have a 2006 outlander and that actually warns when the key battery is low
@@Tommythecat007 I totally agree with you that this simple problem should be easier to anticipate happening! I had the same issue with my first Hyundai, and the battery in the fob was absolutely fine… same with the current car, the fob batteries have all been fine, never replaced. It’s more to do with the smaller internal battery in the car apparently that causes this issue! I know NOTHING about cars, not my scene, but just glad that this little video has helped so many (with the exception of a few) out after its release!

@@RN_BSN_PHN The car just charges itself. Its the weird discharging that seems to happen for no reason... been the same on the two different models I bought! I'm hoping they finally sort it in the next revision!

I see. I figured it might be self charging because no charging port could be found. When I searched the entire exterior body.
