  • Sweden and Netherlands will provide 13 CB90 fast assault crafts to Ukraine in 2024 (10 Sweden and 3 Netherlands).
The CB90 is an extremely fast and agile boat capable of carrying and deploying a half platoon of amphibious infantry (18 men) fully equipped. It is equipped with twin water jets that allow it to operate in shallow coastal waters at speeds of up to 40 knots (74 km/h) and to slow down from top speed to a complete stop in 2.5 boat lengths.

Seeing those guys "storming" the beach reminds me of some of the maneuvers we had in the Marine Corp! We only had 6 magazines of blank ammo each, so shooting full auto was out of the question if you wanted to remain "alive." You run out of ammo and you're automatically "dead!" I was in charge of taking "captured" enemies back to base. We let them keep their weapons, because they were responsible for them, but I confiscated all of their blank ammo. Towards the end, when everyone was low on ammo we knew the enemy would rush us and I handed out all of the "extra" ammo. When they came we waited until they were close and started firing full auto! The referee was laughing his butt off as he declared their whole enemy team was dead! This was at Camp Geiger, North Carolina during Intensive Combat Training in 1973! After that they changed how the "extra" ammo was dealt with! LOL!!!

The soldiers firing full auto is likely the SAW gunners with 5.56×45mm 200rnd belt boxes.
Then there's two fixed forward M2HB HMGs on the boat for assault supression in addition to any railing mounts and the main ring/weapon station mount that often mounts a .50 M2HB or 40mm GLMG or a launcher for the Swedish light anti-ship version of the Hellfire missile 😊

USMC from time to time these days practice together with the Swedish “Coastal Ranger Company” who uses these boats. Among other things I believe CB90s launching from larger USMC amphibious assault ships. The US Navy’s NECC also has two of these boats. Manly for use in rivers it seems.
The Swedish archipelagos are full with small islands like everywhere. And the Swedish military strategy is mainly defensive. To repel an aggressor on its own territory. Moving from island to island with relatively small units. The US doesn’t seem to have much of those kinds of archipelagos, and I would suppose USMC’s strategy is more offensive and about launching way larger amounts of Marines against a shoreline. So I assume the CB90 isn’t the best option for that.
What deserves to be mentioned though is that the USMC, when on an exercise in Sweden, didn’t stand a chance against possible the toughest units of the Swedish militia. Who deployed unconventional weapons the Marines hadn’t trained to encounter: Swedish kids armed with snowballs! Sorry guys…!

@@cristitanase6130There is no direct historical lineage from Kyiv being the capital of a Kievan Rus state to Moscow being the capital of Russia.
The Rurik dynasty of Kyiv Rus (who had its origin in Novgorod) had started to fracture already before the Mongols invaded. Different linages created rather independent principalities. And there were a bunch of capitals of different principalities of the Kievan Rus, that the Mongols came to invade and control by outmaneuvering them against each other. Vladimir-Suzdal was one of those principalities. Tver was then the capital of Vladimir-Suzdal. Moscow had essentially just been a fortress, also sacked by the Mongols. And not until later were the capital moved from Tver to Moscow. Still under rule of the Mongols. Moscow being rather distant to the Mongol rulers, and hence later could muster a force to start ousting the Mongols. But the Mongols were also defeated at other places by other forces. Three different linages of the Rurik dynasty formed, creating different principalities. Vladimir-Suzdal expanded through different means (obviously often through violence) and the Grand Duchy of Moscow became the outcome. All different linages of the Rurik dynasty ending while borders moved constantly between principialities. The Grand Duchy of Moscow transferring into a tzarsom, where the tzar gave himself the title “the tzar of all Russia”, so to spell out the ambitions that he and his linage were the true rulers of all of Russia. Obviously such a self acclaimed title doesn’t make it true.
Russia is a name taken for imperialistic reasons. Not because it is a proof of absolute continuity Kievan Rus->Russia that ratifies an invasion of the original lands of the Rus and the Rurik dynasty. Just like adapting the doubble eagle doesn’t make Russia the successor to Rome and Constantinople. Moscow is not the inheritor of Kyiv. It was just one of many Rus states with a Rurik dynasty that appeared in the aftermath of the Mongol invasion.
Really, Russia perhaps should call itself “Earth” and do some historical tricks to create a linage from Adam and Eve. Obviously that would make it the true ruler of all nations.

You know what's missing from this: a launching and recovery platform for scout and attack drones. The ability for each boat to have someone in the cockpit that was flying or tasking recon drones and ones that could drop munitions would be a game changer. Pull up to the shoreline, launch two or three drones from the squadron of boats, search up and down the area, identifying enemy positions for the gunners to suppress and finding gaps or weak points to exploit. Send a few attack drones in to take out armor or vehicles. Way easier for the landing party.

    • @abrakkehakka1357
      @abrakkehakka1357 Před 2 měsíci

It’s rather close between the islands in the archipelagos. I would believe once you have control of one island it is easier to launch drones from a more static position. You also wouldn’t want to launch drones so the launching position (the boat) is identified. But there are likely a bunch of different drones that can be easily carried along with the CB90. The drone wars have just begun, so I would bet there’s a bunch of research and evaluations on their use in Ukraine going on. Likely the Ukrainians will experiment. Counter-drone technology is likely more important. But they’re too fast for the types of drones mostly used in Ukraine. I’d say you would need a laser guided missile or similar.

Along the coast there are many regions that are made up of a labyrinth of islands and inlets, with very narrow passages and shallow water. So those boats can attack larger vessels in open water and quickly escape and hide between those islands. They are also perfect for landing troups on those islands, that's why the front hatch is so useful.

They should be useful.😉/greetings from Sweden (Now that we are NATO members, I think Gripen fighter jets will also be coming. Former primeminister sayed so on the day we became NATO member! And the matter has been looked into - even what exact numbers.
Personally, I hope Ukraine will also be producing a lot of this stuff domestically in cooperatin with Sweden. Aparently the infantry fighting vehicle CV90 is under planning for Ukranian production. Other things will take time, but unfortunately Ukraine needs very strong defence for decades to come, not just to win this war. So there also has to be long term planning.

For a boat, it's amazing how it can stop almost immediately. How the hell they can do that?

It goes from full speed to a stop in about 2½ the boat length.

They print the daily price for diesel on a piece of paper. Hook the paper on a fishing rod and when they want the boat to stop, they lower the paper infront of it so the boat can read it.
It's a very fiscally responsible boat.

Wondering if the remote weapon station will be able to deal with FPV drones effectively? Defence against FPV drones is a must these days, particularly for crafts like these.

that is a problem for all existing vehicles today - nobody planned for FPVs - definetely need jammers

It looks like a fairly modular design so they should be able design a dedicated station for this. I'm wondering if you can get a phased array radar small enough and powerful enough to detect a drone and then deal with it, without microwaving the crew. Various tanks claim to have a close in weapons system, but so far I'm not seeing impressive results..
